Welcome the Stranger We have become accustomed to seeing pictures in the media and stories on the news about immi-grants from Latin America and refugees from Syria fleeing violence and destruction in their own coun-tries, trying to make their way to a safe place. We have also seen the reactions of people who want to keep them away from their countries, who fail to welcome the stranger and the helpless children. Have we forgotten Jesus’ call to comfort the homeless and the stranger? “They shall bring all your brothers and sisters from all the nations . . . to Jerusalem, my holy mountain, says the L .” In the three readings for this day, we are told that we are to welcome these strangers, to welcome the discipline of the Lord, which leads to peace, and to “strive to enter through the narrow gate” into the glo-ry of God’s own homeland, the reign of God. Members of the Sacred Heart Youth Group had an amazing experience on our Capuchin Appala-chian Mission to Harlan, KY last month. With your help, we were able to raise over $5,000 with our par-ish appeal. This helped us to perform manual labor, run a free vacation bible school, volunteer at a local nursing home and perform outreach, giving out cloth-ing, household supplies and food. The 75+ missionar-ies were able to do all these great things while re-flecting on how God is calling us to use our gifts to build His Kingdom. We could not have done this without your prayers and financial support. Thank you so much, you continue to be in our prayers!

Youth Group is Starting Up

Teens, mark your google calendars! Thursday, September 12th is the kickoff of our youth ministry for teenagers in junior high and high school. We meet every Thursday from 7pm to 8:30pm in our school gymnasium. Come have fun, eat pizza, play some games, make some friends and learn about things that really matter... to YOU! For more information, con-tact Emily Goldwasser at [email protected]. Par-ents can also call 914-414-5211 to learn more about the program

Are you a Musician? The Folk Group and / or Contemporary Choir is looking to expand, and we need your help! We are searching for musicians who are interested in adding their talents to help make a joyful noise unto the Lord at our 7pm Mass. Percussionists are most welcome; we have a set of Congas waiting to be played! Wind, string and brass instruments are welcomed as well, in addition to keyboardists, guitarists and bassists. Per-fect attendance is NOT required! For more infor-mation, please contact Jonathan Goldwasser at [email protected] or 914-356-2995

2020 Mass Book and Schedule Changes

The Mass book for the year 2020 is open. Mass intentions can be reserved at the Rectory office Monday thru Friday. You can request Masses for the living, in thanksgiving, for your special intentions and for the deceased. Due to the priest shortage in our dio-cese, beginning on January 1, 2020, Sacred Heart Church will no longer have an 8:30 am Mass Monday thru Friday. In addition there will only be one Mass on Saturday morning at 8:30 am. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Cardinal’s Annual Stewardship Appeal

In the Bible, Jesus teaches us to act with mercy, compassion and love. Your help plays a vital role that ensures the Car-dinal’s Appeal continues to serve so many throughout our communities. To date, 170 families have made their commitment to the Appeal effort in our parish totaling $39,438.00 which is 45 % of our goal of $88,000.00. Please join your fellow parish-ioners in stewardship and make your gift to the Cardinal’s Appeal today. Thank you to all who have already made your commit-ment – your generosity is most appreciated! You can also make your gift online at: www.cardinalsappeal.org

Mass Attendance

Our Mass attendance was 1,093. The Assumption attendance was 455. Our last week’s collection was $6,665.75. The Assumption collection was $2,486.00. Thank you for your continued finan-cial support to our Parish and its many needs. Your financial generosity for the up-keep of our Parish buildings and programs is essential and greatly appreciated.
