Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion

Today we celebrate Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week. This year things are very different with our precautions regarding the corona virus and the suspension of Masses. It feels very odd and sad for me not be able to gather with you for this important celebration as we begin the high point of our liturgical year.

Nonetheless, there are ways we can make ourselves present to the heart of these holy days. Here are some of them. First, come to church during the designated hours noted elsewhere in the bulletin to pick up palm branches to take to your homes. A prayer card is also provided for your use. A collection basket will be there for your usual financial contribution to the parish. Second, read the Passion according to Matthew (26:14 through 27:66). This is a way for you and your family to feel connected to the “Passion” side of this Sunday. Thirdly, spend some time prayerfully reading the Psalm for today, Psalm 22. Imagine yourself being present to Christ praying this Psalm with us during these challenging times. Jesus prayed this Psalm when he was dying on the cross.

Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers as we are all together in this very different Holy Week journey.

Fr.

Easter Flowers The ‘Special Offering for Easter Flowers’ envelopes are now available on the back table of the church. Make a donation in memory of loved ones and help provide flowers for the altar and décor for the Risen Savior Easter environment.

Unsheltered in Minnesota: A Catholic Social Justice Meet-Up Tuesday, April 14, 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., Resurrection Hall The statewide housing crisis is impacting Minnesotans at every point in the housing continuum, but no group is in more danger than the unsheltered population: the dramatically increasing number of people living in their cars, under bridges, in stairwells and other places not meant for human habitation. This population is growing quickly, and it is more important than ever for people of faith to see and engage their neighbors and respond from their faith. Join us for a Social Justice Meet-Up with Catholic Charities staff April 14 to learn more and understand how you can advocate now to assist those who are unsheltered and desire a pathway to affordable and supportive housing. RSVP Today! Call (612) 204-8333 or go to [email protected].

Advocacy in Action at Risen Savior: April 25-26 After Masses on April 25 and 26, we invite you to join our parish and thousands of other faithful citizens in advocacy. We will have two different ways to make your voice heard: (1) Through our annual participation Bread for the World’s Offering of Letters and (2) Through the Twin Cities Catholic Charities Postcard Campaign for Emergency Shelter Funding. Read more about each effort below.

Bread for the World’s Offering of Letters: Better Nutrition, Better Tomorrow Risen Savior has a long-standing tradition of participating in Bread’s annual offering of letters. For nearly 50 years, Bread has helped win support for bipartisan measures that address the root causes of hunger. This year, we are joining our voices to ask our U.S. Congress to support legislation that provides nutrition for the most vulnerable people in the U.S. and abroad. In the weeks leading up to the Advocacy in Action weekend, we’ll be providing more information on these legislative efforts in the bulletin.

Urgent: Catholic Campaign for Emergency Shelter Funding! Minnesota is facing a homelessness crisis. In the last year alone, unsheltered homelessness in the Twin Cities has increased by 50 percent. We need your help today to expand the number of emergency shelter beds and critical support resources for our most vulnerable neighbors. April 25 and 26 stop at our tables after mass to learn more and sign postcards to your lawmakers. You can also pick up postcards from Grace Koleczek now to share with your family and friends and return them to Grace. You can make a difference in the lives of those most in need this legislative session by advocating for an investment in Emergency Services Program (ESP) funding now. Learn more here https://www.cctwincities.org/unsheltered-in-minnesota/.

The Human Trafficking Committee invites you to an Evening of Conversation and Sharing Tuesday, April 21 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in Resurrection Hall

The Human Trafficking committee has invited area faith communities to gather and share what they have been doing or are planning on doing to help end human trafficking. If you have been interested in our Risen Savior Human Trafficking committee, this is a great time to come and learn more! RSVP

Celebrating the Sacrament of Baptism Baptism is the first step in a lifelong journey of commitment and discipleship. At Baptism we receive and celebrate God's free gift of grace and salvation through Jesus Christ. As the first Sacrament of Initiation, Baptism is also the sign of a lifelong relationship with God and with the Church.

At Risen Savior, we celebrate Baptisms once/month but not during the season of Lent. Upcoming baptism dates after Easter are April 19 and May 17 at 12:15 p.m. Parents must complete a preparation class prior to their child’s baptism date. For more information please visit our website Sacraments page or contact the parish office.

NOTE: If you are interested in celebrating the sacrament in Spanish, please contact Gerardo Marin at (952) 698-1726 or [email protected].

Volunteer with Loaves and Fishes IMPORTANT MESSAGE

Loaves and Fishes is a great opportunity to put your faith into action by preparing and serving a meal to the hungry.

During this COVID-19 shutdown situation, Loaves & Fishes is deemed an essential service to the community. There is an unprecedented need and now with the Stay-at-Home order in place, many more Minnesotans find themselves without a job or struggling to pay their bills. Our daily, free and healthy meals will continue to be served as take-aways at all of the Loaves & Fishes locations by volunteers who maintain safe food handling procedures and have been certified by ServSafe standards which have been implemented for over 40 years.

If you are healthy and feeling well, we are in need of volunteers to help prep and serve these crucial meals. Sign up at our website at loavesandfishesmn.org/volunteer/. Contact (612) 377-9810 with questions about Loaves & Fishes.

My Jesus, I believe that you are in the Blessed Sacrament. I love you above all things, and I long for you in my soul.

Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.

As though you have already come, I embrace you and unite myself entirely to you;

never permit me to be separated from you.

Amen.

By Fr. Tom Krenik

Lord Jesus, you are the light of the world. Lord Jesus, you are the light in my world.

You are the light in our world now.

Shine in the darkness of fear, sin, and unbelief, confusion or chaos during these challenging times.

Bring us hope. Bring us healing. Bring us peace.

Help us to see as you see. Help us to see the way forward in these times.

“I am the light of the world,” Jesus says

Yesterday, today, always.
