Dear brothers and sisters,
May is already upon us which means we have exactly four weeks until the The Third Annual Community Street Faire in Howard-Elmer Park on May 30th! This year’s Street Faire may be the best yet! Just look at some of the activities:
3 on 3 basketball tournament Magic show and street magic
Chicken BBQ Pork BBQ Hot Dogs
Pies & other baked goods Cotton Candy & Popcorn 50/50
Flea Market & Silent Auction Live Radio Broadcast 20 vendors!
Bouncy House Balloon Creator for the kids Music
Quilt Raffle Tickets 7 for $5 when purchased at the Street Faire!
The purpose of the Street Faire was originally to raise some money to help pay for roof repair. Last year, as the Faire moved into Howard-Elmer Park, it took on more of a true “Community” Street Faire feel. This year, the street faire is about hosting an event for the community, inviting the community to come together for something fun, educational, and financially beneficial (to vendors and to the Parish!).
We are grateful again this year to Williams Toyota for underwriting the live radio broadcast and of course, Dandy Mini Mart, who has made significant contributions to the event. This year we have a new contributor, First Citizens Bank, who will be helping to sponsor a professional magician. There will be a full list in the June newsletter of all the businesses who participated and contribut-ed, so we can stop by and tell them how much we appreciate their support.
So, what can YOU do? Do you have a larger item we can use for the “silent auction”? If not, per-haps you can do some spring cleaning and contribute smaller items to fill the tables for the “flea market” at the Faire. You can bake pies (or some other baked specialty if you prefer) for the Bake Sale. You can volunteer to staff the bake sale table, or help take money for the food, or help serve the food. You can help staff either the 50/50 raffle, the quilt ticket sales, the flea market, the bouncy house, or giving people a tour of the Church. There are so many small jobs to do, a full sign up list can be found at the entrance to the Church. There are ways that every member of the Church can participate! We hope to see everyone at the Faire!
Fr. Glenn+
Special thanks goes to those who have helped organize this year’s faire. Especially Gretchen Rentschler and Jim Shay (who has helped with so many business donations!), Margaret Cole, John Storelli & JJ Johnson (BBQ), Emily Cole, Ruth Barber (contributing port-a-potty), Mary Ellen Rhodes (3 on 3 tournament), Chuck Preston, and Betsy Schumacher, Tracy Schamel (tents).
From the Priest
The Mite Boxes this year raised $277.51. The money will be used by the Sunday School
to purchase sheep through Heifer International. Thanks to all those who participated.
Mother/Daughter/Friend Banquet- May is just around the corner! The Mother-
Daughter-Friend Banquet will be here very soon, so please highlight your calendars for
Tuesday, May 5. Dinner is at 6:30pm. Entrees this year are Beef Tips or Stuffed Chicken. Adult
meal prices are $12. Chicken Fingers will be available for children. $6 for children.Children 5
and under are free. Entertainment will be provided by Mr. Pat Kane. Please call reservations
into the church office by no later than noon on Thursday, April 30th. Please join us for a fun
evening.
The congregation is ahead in the miles of pennies race! The track is in the Church
and the congregation is ahead of the Sunday school in contributing pennies to help benefit
the Church Periodical Club “Miles of Pennies” grant. A Miles of Pennies grant is $844.80
(which represents one mile of pennies) which the CPC awards to be used for books,
workbooks, manuals, videos, CD's or audio-visual materials, for any church, organization, or
program affiliated with the Anglican Communion. Bring in your pennies by May 10th!
If you know of a vendor who wants to be in this year’s Community Street Faire
on May 30, just have them contact the parish office by calling (570) 888-2270 or email
[email protected]. They can sign up until May 24th, when we need to have a final list
so we can layout where each vendor is assigned to set up. There is a $25 fee for any for
profit individual or organization. Checks can be made payable to Church of the Redeemer.
We are asking the Vendors to provide their own table, chairs, and tent (if they want to use
one). If you have any further questions, feel free to email or call the parish office.
Hoagie Sales to begin June 18th. As a fundraiser for the Parish, it was suggested that we
try making fresh hoagies to sell at local offices. The first day of hoagie delivery will be June
18th. If you would like to help make the hoagies or help deliver them on the 18th, please
contact the Parish office or Gretchen Rentschler.
A Memorial Service for Edward Nobles will take place on May 2nd at 2pm in the Church
and a Memorial Service for Katherine Allen will be held on June 6th at 11am in the
Church.
Rest eternal grant to them O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon them, may their souls and the
souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.
Easter Celebration
Church of the Redeemer celebrated our Lord’s resurrection even in the midst of a snowstorm!! Easter was a glorious celebration to end a very inspiring Holy Week. Special thanks to Glenda Hinsman for officiating at Evening Prayer on Monday and Tuesday nights on Holy Week. Thanks to Margaret & Emily Cole and the Youth Group for a wonderful service on Wednesday night. Special thanks to Phoebe Mar-shall and her Altar Guild for helping to make Maundy Thursday services so meaning-ful. Thanks to all who came to remember our Lord’s suffering and death on the cross on Good Friday. And thanks to those who came to celebrate the lighting of a new fire at the Great Vigil of Easter on Saturday night. Special thanks to Marcella and the Choir for all of their preparation and hard work to help make Easter glorious. And let’s not forget our children! Thank you Bonnie, Betsy, Doreen, Shari and Emily for your dedication to our Sunday school kids and running the ever popular Easter egg hunt following the Easter service. Thanks to all those who planned, participated, and attended services and activities to make this Holy Week and Easter truly amazing!
