PRACTICING AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE

Do you have Christian friends of other faiths who criticize the many rules we seem to

have in the Roman Catholic Church? Perhaps you see them as too many as well. And along

with these rules there always seems to be some sanction, some punishment if you don't follow

the 'rules.' Psychologists tell us that fear of punishment can result in unpredictable outcomes.

Some will follow the rules to avoid the punishment while others will ignore the rules when they

think no one is looking or simply walk away from the situation of they are able.

The Bible certainly talks about a God of justice but also found in its pages and throughout

history is a God of love and mercy. Awareness and understanding of these last qualities can

make a difference in our lives and how we live out our spiritual life. In his Encyclical on

Devotion to the Sacred Heart, May 15, 1956, Pope Pius XII spoke of the physical heart of Jesus

as a representation of His divine love for humanity. It symbolized His love and compassion for

us.

Looking at God this way we can come to a different relationship with him. In fact, St.

Ignatius of Loyola, the soldier saint and founder of the order of the Jesuits, tells people to spend

most of their time reflecting non on sins but on the blessing of the day. It's really an exercise in

recognizing the good things God is doing in our lives and how we are not responding to his

love. Love begets love, even on the human level. Our actions are now not seen as an attempt to

'earn' or 'merit' heaven (something we can't do - Jesus did it for us) but a natural response to

someone who cares so much for us. The unproductive guilt over our sins, which can

immobilize even our best intentions, is replaced with a sincere desire to do better because of the

love and care He is showing us in our daily lives. The more we reflect on our day and see God's

hand in it the more our gratitude grows. And this approach, if practiced daily can increase our

sense of peace and trust in God. When we are seeing on a daily basis just how much he loves

us, I can be at peace even if doubts or fears assail me. And if my prayers do not turn out in a

way I request I can still know that He is with me, walking with me, encouraging joy and

embracing me with His love. God is good all the time and all the time Good is good. In Him

there is always Hope.

The Lord appeared to us...saying "I have loved you with an everlasting love" I have drawn you with loving -

kindness.

Jeremiah 31:2

ParishPay is the best means available of supporting our parish. Currently, we have 96 families in our Parish participating and we would like to grow that number. Often times as we’re preparing to head out to Mass, we forget to put money or a check in our envelope and decide to postpone giving until the following week when we can give two envelopes. But any delay in tithing could potentially hinder the parish from paying its bills in a timely fashion. With Parish Pay, there is no delay. Even if you can’t make the Mass due to inclement weather, Parish Pay ensures that your giving to Infant Saviour will be available to the parish when it’s needed most. It’s a more consistent way of giving and it enables the parish to better calculate what amount will be coming in which makes things easier on the parish financially. With Parish Pay, tithing may be made through your checking account, savings account or even a credit card every week or month at NO cost to you. It’s a secure and confidential way to tithe. Once you’ve seen the Parish Pay website, you realize just how quick and easy it is to modify your giving or even stop it entirely should you run into some sort of financial difficulty and find yourself unable to give. The quickest way to enroll is by using the website www.parishpay.com , or calling the Parish Office 744-2391 x10. There is also a link to Parish Pay through our own parish website, www.infantsaviour.org. For those of you who worry about what other people will think when you don’t put anything in the basket, you can simply deposit an empty envelope in the basket with the words Parish Pay written on the amount. We encourage you to surf out to the Parish Pay website and see just what this way of giving has to offer. Thank you in advance for your continued generosity to Infant Saviour Parish, your spiritual home. May God Bless You All Abundant.

THE CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE: Thank you to all for taking a tag to help a child in need in our Pine Bush Community. Please remember that gifts are due by Dec. 9th, Wednesday, at the Parish Office or placed into the special boxes that have been placed in both Churches. Thank you for your generosity and promptness. CHRISTMAS FOOD DRIVE 2015:

Please join the children in our Religious Education program in contributing for those in need. Your donations of canned, boxed, non-perishable UNEXPIRED food items can be placed in front of the Altar or in front of the curtain of the hall stage. We appreciated donations of turkeys, roaster chickens and hams. All frozen meat should be put into the freezer of the hall's refrigerator. The last day for the drop off is Sunday, December 13. Time is needed to sort and transport food. As in previous years, our efforts are coordinated with the Pine Bush Lions Club for an ecumenical community outreach. Thank you for sharing
