The Epiphany of the Lord January 3, 2021 All kings shall pay him homage, all nations shall serve him. — Psalm 72:11

PROMISE FULFILLED Isaiah reminds the people of God that the land shall be restored to their possession, they shall rejoice to see their people return from the bondage of exile, and they shall be a light to the nations. In other words, through the people of Israel, the Savior shall come to all people who seek God with a sincere heart. This brings joy and the radiance of God’s glory to all the world and to all people everywhere. Through the fidelity of the people of God, and through God’s fidelity to them, all people shall become God’s children and rejoice in the fulfillment of God’s promise to Israel. Copyright © J. S. MASS AT 7 AM … our usual schedule resumes tomorrow, Monday … there will be a Mass at 7 am. THE CHRISTMAS AND CHRISTMAS FLOWER COLLECTION … will remain open during the month of January ... many thanks for your special generosity. MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY ... On Monday, January 18, Martin Luther King Day, we will only have one Mass at 9 am. The rectory office will be closed on that day as well. MASS SCHEDULE ... MASS FOR THE HEARING IMPAIRED ... The last Sunday of each month we have Mass at 12 noon with sign language ... pass on the word to relatives and friends who might be interested ... sign language is beautiful and inspiring to watch. RECEPTION OF HOLY COMMUNION … Just a reminder that we ask that you preferably receive Holy Communion in your hands, by holding out both hands one on top of the other. Also remember that the proper response to the priest before receiving Holy Communion is “Amen,” not “Thank you.” BAPTISMS … all Catholics should be baptized … parents should be

registered in the parish and attending weekly Sunday Mass in order to have the child baptized … godparents must be practicing Catholics who have received the sacraments of Baptism, Holy Communion and Confirmation and, if married, married in the church … godparents must be members of a parish and must be attending weekly Mass … if you are going to be a godparent, it makes perfect and reasonable sense that you are practicing the faith and that you are a model for the child. SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY ... the Catholic Church teaches that marriage is between a man and a woman, a sign of LOVE and LIFE ... Catholics should be married in the church and, if married only civilly, should speak to one of the priests about receiving the sacrament in the Church (called convalidation) ... please know that you are welcome to ask questions and to receive direction and advice about the SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY … Please remember to secure a date for your wedding before making any arrangements with caterers, limo drivers, family and friends. FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS … the usual practice for Catholic burials is a wake service in a funeral home, a Funeral Mass in the parish church, burial of the body or cremains in a cemetery (preferably a Catholic cemetery) … speak with one of the priests for assistance before a death occurs and speak with a reputable funeral home director about pre-arrangements … cremains (ashes) are held in the same reverence and respect as a body and so they should be treated carefully, respectfully, reverentially and buried as soon as possible after cremation. PARISH REGISTRATION … all members of the parish should be registered and receive parish mailings and envelopes … if you are an adult (18 years and older), you should register to receive the envelopes and other information from the parish … you need to be registered in order to receive recommendation letters, financial statements, tuition rates and other parish related issues … HOW TO REGISTER? Come to the rectory office on Castle Hill Ave. LATE FOR CHURCH? … Why? Please resolve to arrive early for Mass, say a prayer, read the Scripture and be ready when we start it will make the Mass more prayerful and meaningful for all. Remember, if you miss the readings, you miss the teachings of Christ. St. Jerome wrote, “Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ.” Getting to Church on time matters. VISITING OF THE SICK OR HOMEBOUND … If you know of anyone who is sick or homebound and would like to receive communion, Please call the rectory to give us your information as well as the information of the person who wishes to receive communion. They must reside in our parish area.

Los católicos deben casarse en la iglesia y, si es casado sólo civilmente, debe hablar con uno de los sacerdotes acerca de recibir el sacramento en la iglesia (llamado convalidación) ... por favor saber que son bienvenidos para hacer preguntas y recibir dirección y consejos sobre el SACRAMENTO DEL MATRIMONIO … Por favor recuerde de asegurar la fecha para su ceremonia antes de hacer cualquier arreglos con los proveedores, los conductores de la limosina, la familia y los amigos. PROMESA CUMPLIDA Isaías le recuerda al pueblo de Dios que la tierra será devuelta a su posesión, se alegrarán de ver a su gente regresar de la esclavitud del exilio y serán una luz para las naciones. En otras palabras, el pueblo de Israel será la vía para que el Salvador venga a todos aquellos que buscan a Dios con un corazón sincero. Esto trae consigo la alegría y el resplandor de la gloria de Dios a todo el mundo y para todas las personas en todas partes. TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE Melchor, Gaspar y Baltasar son los nombres que la tradición ha dado a los tres reyes magos. Pero ¿quién dijo que eran tres? Según San Mateo (Mt 2:1‑12) fueron sabios del oriente que trajeron oro, incienso y mirra a Jesús. La imaginación cristiana decidió que cada regalo requería alguien que lo regalara. Se fija así el número de sabios en tres. Por ser astrólogos del oriente, tenían que ser magos. Venían buscando al nuevo rey de Israel y fue así que se les da el papel de reyes que representaban los tres continentes conocidos en la época medieval: Asia, África y Europa. Ellos también representan tres edades humanas: juventud, madurez y vejez. Melchor (rey de la luz), fue un anciano europeo que obsequió oro al Rey Jesús; Gaspar (tesorero) fue un joven asiático que regaló incienso al Niño Dios y Baltasar (dios proteja al rey) fue un hombre africano que donó mirra al Hijo del Hombre. Y ENTREGAN SUS TESOROS AL NIÑO REY TAMBIÉN NOSOTROS VAMOS CON LOS REGALOS,

Cabalgaron por las selvas guiados por la estrella, se acercaron a la cueva y adoraron a Emanuel. Se postraron ante el Niño, el Niño chiquitito,

le cantaron villancicos de rodillas ante El.

Del Niñito que ha nacido quisiera ser amigo, y cantarle villancicos con la flauta y el cascabel. De los niños de la tierra quisiera ser hermano, repartirles mis regalos, compartir la misma fe.
