ALTAR CARE

CHURCH CLEANING FOR EASTER-FRIDAY,

APRIL 12TH 9:00 A.M. ***

Prayer for Lent Lord, grant that I may always allow myself to be guided by you, follow your plans and

perfectly accomplish your holy will. Grant that in all things,

great and small, today and all the days of my life, I may do whatever you require of me.

St. Teresa of Avila

What might God be requiring of me today?

Have a prayerful week.

Julie

Worship

Today’s readings invite us to reflect on our need for redemption and to open our eyes to the new things that God wants to do in us.

The First Reading is addressed to the exiles in Babylon. They are told that God is about to destroy the Babylonian empire. What a marvelous thing! God will buy back the exiles in the same way that he destroyed the pharaoh’s army at the Red Sea. Moreover, this new Exodus will be so great that they will forget the first one. God makes all things new.

In the Second Reading, Paul tells the community at Philippi about his former life as a persecutor of the followers of Jesus and about how everything he once had is now considered rubbish in light of knowing Christ and his Resurrection. Here, “knowing” means experience Christ in faith.

In the Gospel’s powerful story about Jesus and a woman charged with adul-tery, the scribes and Pharisees force Je-sus to be a judge so that they might en-trap him. But what about the woman? She is shamed at least twice. The men who brought charges against her would have witnessed the act, and now she is made to stand before these men while she awaits judgment. It is likely that she had been raped, because most women in the ancient world were not given enough freedom to voluntarily engage in sexual relations. Jesus saves her by saying that the one who has no sin can cast the first stone. (Taken from At Home With the Word)

“SO SORRY FOR THE CONFUSION”

It has been brought to my attention that there has been some confusion about the Easter OCEF Distribution, and hopeful-ly I will be able to clear up any confu-sion you may have.

Yes, OCEF is having an Easter Distribu-tion, and yes we are still collecting food, as always, but the food is not going to be used just at Easter time. Because Easter has always been a hard distribu-tion to find enough volunteers, and we don’t have our normal outside sources that donate like they do for Thanksgiv-ing and Christmas. We thought we would try something different.

We took a 2 month survey of current pantry clients and asked them if they would prefer the food and the usual 25.00 Bueche card, or would they like 2 cards totally 60.00. All 100 families who will be participating for Easter went with the 2 cards. This does not surprise me as many clients go to rela-tives homes for Easter egg hunts and other family outings and would not be using the food right away. If there are any families, like late sign up’s, new clients, or already existing clients they can make an appointment for emergency food.

The one thing I really want to make clear is that we do not let anyone go hungry, never, ever. This distribution will be a trial; as OCEF continues to grow, we are always looking to improve our service to our wonderful families, and we are open to any suggestions any-one may have to help us improve our already existing wonderful program. I hope this explanation helps you under-stand what we will be doing for Easter. Please, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to give me a call at the parish office- 248-627-3965 ext. 103. Many blessings, and thank you for your ongo-ing support and all that you do!

Allow Yourself to be Transformed

St. Ignatius of Loyola’s Daily Examen

St. Ignatius Loyola’s Daily Examen is a powerful tool to help you prayerfully review your day. Take 15 minutes each evening the remainder of Lent to see God in the everyday. 1. Place yourself in God’s presence.

Look back on the events of the day. Ask the Holy Spirit for clarity and understanding.

2. Pray for the grace to understand how God is acting in your life. Walk through your day in the presence of God and give thanks for his gifts in your life.

3. Review your day and pay attention to specific moments. Did your actions bring you closer to God or move you farther away? Ask your self when you were aware of God’s presence, and whether you considered your options and freely followed God’s will in specific situations.

4. Ask for forgiveness and healing. Ex-press sorrow for those times when you failed to follow God’s will, and ask for his help for the next time.

5. Look toward tomorrow. Ask for God’s grace for tomorrow’s chal-lenges. Seek God’s guidance. Ask for help and understanding.

Christian Service

I would like to send a very warm thank you to everyone who brought soup, bread, salad or shared a smile with all of us at the Lenten Soup Dinner last Sunday. We had such a wonderful se-lection of great soups and salads-one got full just looking at the variety.

I hope all of you who attended enjoyed meeting Kyle, from Grace Centers of Hope, and hearing his witness to the amazing programs which Grace of-fers. Thank you everyone who attend-ed, and if you would like to drop a note to Kyle in the mail and share your thoughts with him I know he would really appreciate it and we would be letting the administration of Grace know how wonderful he was. Also, please remember that we will be col-lecting needed items until the end of Lent to help Grace Centers. Thank you, many blessings to all. Karyn

Reflections and Gratitude

I’ve have had the honor of being your High

School Youth Minister for 15 years now. As

with any of us volunteers and/or staff, it began

with a “Personal Invitation” and encourage-

ment to try something new out of our comfort

zone. None of us feel qualified to work for

Christ, yet HE continues to tap us in spite of

our lack of confidence (just like in the Bible). I

heard this saying early on and hold onto it for

dear life “They don’t care how much you know,

they know how much you care” and I think

that goes for people who serve all ages. It’s

truly about the relationships that we develop,

much more so than how perfectly we can re-

cite scripture. This is not to say that we

shouldn’t always be learning and growing in

our faith by any means. I have been blessed

with many friendships through my ministry

and hopefully some that will last a lifetime. To

get to know the youth, their families, our more

mature parishioners, the staff and all who wor-

ship and serve here is one of my greatest Joys.

I’ve truly learned to “Fully Rely On God”

(FROG) in all that I do. Thank you for being

part of my Parish Family. Love & Prayers
