Scripture Corner:

SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER

First Reading: Acts 5:12-16 The people held the apostles in great esteem and brought sick people to them to be healed. Although some were afraid to be known, the number of Jesus' followers continued to grow steadily.

Second Reading: Revelation 1:9-11a, 12-13, 17-19 John depicts a vision of lamp-stands of gold and one like the Son of Man in a robe with a sash of gold. This apparition told John he had nothing to fear and then described himself as one who was dead but now lived again. He then instructed John to record any other visions he might have.

Gospel: John 20:19-31 Jesus appeared to the disciples and breathed on them saying, "Receive the Holy Spirit." He gives them the power to forgive people's sins or hold them accountable. Thomas, who was not present, refused to believe Jesus had appeared until he came to them once more. Jesus told Thomas to believe and added, "Blessed are those who have not seen and have be-lieved."

Mother’s Day is May 12th

Envelopes with your Mother’s Day intentions may be placed in any

collection or may be returned directly to the rectory. For those who do not receive envelope packets, ushers will be handing out Mother’s Day envelopes today. Please return the envelopes to the rectory as soon as possible so your intentions will be able to be placed on the altar in time for the Mother’s Day Masses.

Give thanks to the Lord for he is good, his love is everlasting.

Reminders for those Becoming Sponsors It is a great honor and privilege to be a sponsor for Baptism or Confirmation. The role of a godparent is a sacred duty. You become the “other parent” in the ways of faith. That is why the Church requires sponsors to be practicing Catholics, 16 years of age or older, having received Confirmation, living a good Christian moral life. If a sponsor is married, that person must be in a valid Church marriage. Only one sponsor is required for Baptism and Confirmation. For Baptism, you may have two sponsors. If you have two sponsors for Baptism, one must be a male and the other a female. To be eligible to receive a sponsor certificate from the parish priests, the individual must be a current parishioner, and be known to the priest as being a practicing Catholic, attending Mass regularly. It is important for all individuals to be active members of their local Catholic communities. If you are in need of a sponsor certificate, please call the parish office and one of the priests will set up a meeting with you.

The next Senior Breakfast will be

MONDAY, APRIL 29, 2019

On Saturdays May 4th and May 11th there will NOT be a 9 am Mass celebrated at St. Marys. We will be celebrating First Communions those Saturdays. Please pray for our children receiving the Eucharist for the first time!
