Tuesday, 6 Sept We arrive in Tel Aviv in the afternoon and check into our hotel.

After settling in and enjoying our welcome dinner, we take a walk along the Promenade and stop for a welcoming drink. L’Chaim, to a memorable experience in Israel and Oberammergau! (D)

Wednesday, 7 SeptThis morning we enjoy an orientation tour of Israel’s lively and vibrant commercial capital. Then travel to Galilee stopping in Caesarea, capital of Judea under the once Roman Empire.

We visit the excavations of the Crusader city and the Roman port, aqueduct and the amphitheatre that has been restored to its former glory as a concert venue.

Watch an informative video on Caesarea at its peak and spoil yourself with the most amazing ice cream you’ll ever taste.

We then continue to the Nazareth Village, with an interesting open-air museum, that reconstructs and re-enacts village life during the time of Jesus. We do a short stop at the famous Mt Precipice, for a view over the Valley of Megiddo – or Armageddon, significant in the Bible for the forecast of the end of time and now for its major gas find.

We continue to our hotel in Galilee for dinner and overnight. (BD)

DAY BY DAY ITINERARY:

Thrusday, 8 Sept Starting our day with a visit to the historic Galilee boat dating back to Jesus’ time - raised from the mud wonderfully preserved – and through Israeli ingenuity, still preserved.

Then off on to Capernaum for the fascinating archaeological excavations. Including Peter’s Mother’s house, where it’s considered, Jesus stayed over while in Galilee. Time will be spent at this enchanting site.

For lunch, Gerrie treats you to a St Peter Fish lunch, traditional and significant for our day in Galilee. Afterwards, we sit back and relax on a cruise on the Sea of Galilee, just like in Jesus’s time.

Then we change direction entirely and head for the hills to learn about wine growing in Israel, obviously followed by a wine tasting. L’chaim! Dinner & Overnight at our Hotel. (BLD)

Friday, 9 Sept We head south to the Dead Sea through the scenic Jordan Valley and visit one of history’s greatest examples of engineering marvels, human endurance and bravery, all rolled up in Masada. We take the cable car up to the summit to discover one of the greatest stories ever told. You will be able to hear and see where the very tragedy took place.

Finally, time for one of the most unique experiences of your life - a “float” on the Dead Sea!! Bring your beach shoes and a newspaper!!

Afterwards, we head north to the City of Gold, Jerusalem, where we check into our hotel. Here we will enjoy dinner and overnight. (BD)

Saterday, 10 SeptOur time in Jerusalem will be busy, but fascinating. There is so much history and Biblical history and we want you to see as much as possible.We begin with an exciting adventure in Hezekiah’s Tunnel – an engineering wonder – carved out in the rock beneath the City of David around 700 BC. It is absolutely incredible. You will get to walk it, choosing between the dry or the wet route, whichever way, an amazing experience!

We visit the Western Wall. Feel free to also file a personal prayer request, on a tightly folded piece of paper, in the cracks between the mighty blocks of the Temple’s Western Wall.

Visit the Pool of Bethesda in the Old City and walk a section of the Via Dolorosa.

Next you will be treated to the best Falafels and Shawarmas - in a local setting. Prepare yourself for a Mid Eastern eating explosion!

The iconic view of the Temple Mount, from Mt of Olives, cannot be missed for not only the Jewish, but also the Christian and Muslim faiths. Jerusalem is considered the most holy of cities and everyone shares the small space of the Temple Mount complex, somehow…

We then walk down the very road of the ‘Palm Sunday’, to the foot of the Mt of Olives, to the Garden of Gethsemane for a quiet moment at the Church of All Nations.

Afterwards, Gerrie will take you to the heart of Jerusalem’s market life, the festive Yehuda Mahane Market – or “The Shuk”, as called by the locals. Enjoy the lively stall owners beckoning you to sample their delicious fresh

and dried fruits, pastries, nuts, sweets and of course, Halva - dozens of flavours of delicious Halva which we will learn all about and taste!!We will return to the hotel for dinner and overnight. (BLD)

Sunday, 11 Sept This morning we visit Yad Vashem, the memorial to the Holocaust - a moving tribute.

Later we journey on to the fascinating and innovative new Davidson Museum, with all the excavations of the original Roman streets being exposed- and so much more to amaze you.

We then return to our hotel for our final dinner in Jerusalem and overnight. (BD)

Monday, 12 Sept We leave Israel and fly to Germany to the next awaiting highlight – Munich!On arrival, we travel to the Aldstadt area to check in for our overnight stop in Munich, the picturesque Capital of Bavaria.

Once settled in, we will have time to stroll in the Old Town (Aldstadt) and pay a visit to the heart of truly traditional Bavarian food – the Victualienmarkt. Walk around and taste little morsels of German delicatessens – specialities of this interesting and robust nation.

A visit to Munich would not be complete without a visit to the famous Hoffbrauhaus, where we treat you to a beer of course. If you find the size of the mighty one litre beer daunting, you may opt for a half!

Still hungry? Then order an Eisbein, sufficient for at least 2 people, or try their Bratwurst. (Dinner for your own account.) Return to the hotel for overnight. (B Snack at Markt)

Tuesday, 13 SeptThis morning we leave Munich and head south to Oberammergau, hosting the imposing Passion Play. (For the uninformed amongst us: The Passion Play is an enactment of the story of Christ every 10th year.)

This tiny town impressively hosts an audience of almost 5000 people at a time, by including the neighbouring villages to eventually accommodate up to half a million people between May and October. It is a remarkably smooth operation, moving huge numbers of visitors every afternoon, from their respective accommodations, for the start of the performance. Halfway though, they transport everyone back to their accommodations for

dinner and collect them again for the last half of the play. And of course, they also return you back to your accommodation after the play. Truly applaudable.

The play is in German and everyone receives a transcript in their own language. However, you will soon abandon the translation, being so absorbed by the sheer size and sincerity of the production. If you know the story well, you will find it easy to follow. Almost every person in the village has a part to play in the production. It is a fascinating process. It is known to be one of the largest productions staged and is a most moving and unique event to witness.

Wednesday, 14 Sept The big day, for our performance of the play, has arrived. You are free in the morning (until lunch) to explore Oberammergau complete with ornate houses adorned with either carvings (for which the town is famous) or the painted decorations on the buildings.

You are free until after lunch when you will be transported to the theatre to take up your Category B seats for the start of the play.

At around 19h00 you will be dropped off at your accommodation for dinner and collected again for the last half of the play.

Once again, they will take you back to your accommodation after the play. (BD)

Thursday, 15 Sept We drive back (in the morning) to Munich airport for our check in and flight home.

Friday, 16 SeptMorning arrival in Johannesburg – the end of a unique and memorable travel experience of discovering Israel, exploring Bavarian Munich and watching the spectacular Passion Play of Oberammergau.
