Home News Venues & Events Sell-out audience expected for the Longford Lecture

Category: Venues & Events Created on Monday, 09 November 2015 10:15

A sell-out audience is expected at Church House Conference Centre for this year’s Longford Lecture, organised by the Longford Trust and sponsored by The

Daily Telegraph.

The 14th Longford Lecture on November 17 will be given by the actor, writer and broadcaster Michael Palin. His theme is “Collateral Damage: the effects of

prison sentences on offenders' families”. It will be the first time that Palin has spoken in public about his own long-term interest in helping and supporting

prisoners' families.

The Longford Lecture – which aims to tackle questions of social and penal reform on the national stage - is held annually at Church House. The first Longford Lecture was

delivered in 2002 by Cherie Booth QC. Other speakers have included Bianca Jagger, Martha Lane Fox, Lord (Ian) Blair, Sir Hugh Orde, Mary McAleese, Clive Stafford

Smith, Baroness Hale of Richmond, Will Self, Nils Öberg and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

The evening will once again be chaired by renowned broadcaster Jon Snow and includes the awarding of the annual Longford Prize, which recognises the contribution of an

individual, group or organisations working in the area of penal or social reform.

In line with the aims of the Longford Trust, catering at the lecture will be provided by The Clink Charity. Through its outside catering project – Clink Events – prisoners training

at The Clink Restaurant at HMP Brixton and HMP High Down will prepare 4,000 canapés for the 665 guests after they have heard Michael Palin’s lecture.

“We are delighted to be working with Church House again this year,” says Peter Stanford, the director of the Longford Trust. “It is the continuation of a long and very happy

partnership with the team there, which has enabled us to make best use of Church House’s fabulous facilities to ensure that our lecture has become an event of national

significance.”

Robin Parker, General Manager of Church House Conference Centre, comments: “Michael Palin’s appeal and the powerful message of the lecture has once again seen the

Longford Lecture attract a capacity audience. We are delighted to continue the tradition of working with the Longford Trust to put on a thought provoking event. The

partnership with The Clink has continued for a sixth year - The Longford Lecture was one of the very first outside events Clink Events catered for – and their involvement with

such a high profile event not only fits in line with the aims of the lecture but also highlights the good work being done in prisons.”

Church House AV launches in-house video production

service

01 Nov 2015

Following recent investments in broadcasting and web streaming equipment, Church House Conference Centre’s AV

team has introduced a full in-house video production service.

The new service allows the venue to produce professional videos, providing clients with a one-stop shop for all their

event AV requirements, as well as generate creative opportunities for its marketing department.

In the past two years Church House has invested more than £120,000 in state-of-the-art video equipment including a

vision mixer, HD cameras, lighting and infrastructure. In order to support these investments Church House has also

invested in developing its teams experience in broadcast technology, providing training for all AV technicians in the

Editing Suite on programmes such as Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effect so they can produce professional videos

in-house.

Ian Locke, Church House Conference Centre’s AV Manager, says: “We are thrilled to officially introduce this service at

Church House and are really excited about the new opportunities that it will open. For our clients this is a chance to

benefit from some cutting edge technology and obtain professional videos, whilst simplifying the production process by

working with a team who already knows and understands their event.

“From an internal point of view it will also enhance our marketing efforts by offering more possibilities in-house, such as

being able to create content for our new YouTube channel. Our AV team is full of young and talented people and this is

a great way for them to showcase their broad technical skills but also their creative potential.”

The first client to utilise the new service was international AV association InfoComm, who hosted their Live Hands-On

Day in September. Christopher Lavelle, Regional Director, UK and Ireland InfoComm International, commented: “We

were extremely pleased with the outcome from the Video Production Team at Church House Conference Centre. The

video pieces created were catching, edgy and clearly well thought out in post-production. On the day the video crew

were polite and courteous, invisible when not needed while capturing the day but available when required.”

Home News Venues & Events Her Majesty The Queen marks Inauguration of the Tenth General Synod at Church House

Category: Venues & Events Created on Friday, 27 November 2015 09:30

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II attended the Inauguration Ceremony of the Tenth General Synod of the Church of England at Church House this week

(November 24).

Her visit to the Westminster venue followed a special service at Westminster Abbey to mark the opening of the new session of the Church of England’s

General Synod.

As the holder of the title Defender of the Faith and Supreme Governor of the Church of England, The Queen opens the General Synod after the elections in the dioceses

every five years.

The General Synod’s most recent meeting at Church House, held over three days, was broadcast around the world by its in-house AV team, including The Queen’s address.

More than 2,500 web streams of live video content were delivered as people from around the world watched with footage also broadcast around Church House.

The General Synod is one of the many organisations which take advantage of Church House’s state-of-the-art AV and internet services, which include live web streaming,

video on demand (VOD) using high definition (HD) broadcast quality cameras, a Tricaster vision mixer, IPTV system for internal distribution and a 100Mbps broadband line.

General Manager Robin Parker said: “The investment in web streaming and broadcasting equipment allows us to provide a full professional service for our clients, and the

General Synod is just one of the many organisations who take advantage of our broadcasting capabilities. Our web streaming and video on demand service adds significant

value to events by allowing the client to reach a wider audience.”
