Bulletin
Four Y12 students have completed their Engineering Education Scheme project. The final stage of the 100 hour project was an opportunity to explain their ideas and show their prototypes and results to six respected professional engineers.
Y9 boys took on a crack team of CHS Dads (plus Mr Collins) at the first ever ‘Lads v Dads’ football charity match at Coombe Dingle. The day was a huge success as a social occasion and will become an annual event with a mothers and daughters game too!
CHS rugby coach, Mr Matt Salter came to talk to Y2 about his diet and exercise when he was playing rugby full-time for Bristol. The questions he asked really made the children think about what they had been learning in Science this term.

Dr Wilson, a lecturer in archaeology, came to talk to the Students' Forum about “Making the Transition: Sixth-Form to First-Year Undergraduate Studies”. The students, particularly the sixth form, benefitted greatly from the wonderful insight.
The array of talent on show at the recent CHS Creative Arts Evening was truly magnificent and at times awe inspiring. This is a new event in our school calendar showcasing the work of the Drama, Music, Textiles and Food Technology Departments. The large and appreciative audience were treated to a debut performance from our Glee Club as well as a fantastic selection of memorable ensemble and solo musical performances. Delicious canapés were made and served in the interval by the GCSE Food Technology group and judging from the empty platters they were clearly a huge success. The highlight for many in the first half was the catwalk show of GCSE and A level Textiles coursework. Corsets and some incredibly imaginative garment creations from the sixth form as well as innovative festival attire from Year 11 were paraded with great excitement and aplomb. Well done to all involved.
Celebrating creative, talented and original brilliance “Creativity now is as
important as literacy
and should be treated
with the same status…”

Thank you to all who took part in the PA quiz night before Easter which raised over £700.
Sixteen teams from across the school took part. Quiz masters Brad Hall and Tony Anderson kept us all entertained over 14 different rounds.
The U11 boys
football team
enjoyed a truly
spectacular win
at the Yatton
FC 6-a-side
tournament. Some excellent goals,
penalties, saves and team play made
the trophy very well deserved; well
done to every member of the squad!
Three winning
Gromit
designers have
been
announced!
Keep an eye on
the website and the next issue of
Clifton Highlights for full details and
pictures of the winning designs along
with their translation onto Gromit
himself. Well done to all the entrants!
Safety in the sun
As it appears summer may at last be just around the corner, this is an appropriate time to remind you of the need for sun protection particularly in the Early Years and Junior schools. Children should:
bring a sun hat to school (please make sure it is labelled);
apply sun lotion before coming to school if the weather forecast suggests it may be sunny;
Bring labelled lotion to school. Nursery-Year 2 staff may help children apply the lotion; older children will self-apply;
Always take a hat, sun lotion and a plastic water bottle to games sessions and school trips.
Drop-off, drop-in
There is a Nursery to Year 6 ‘Drop-off, drop-in’ session on 22nd May; 8.30-9am for N-Y2 and 8.30-8.50am for Y3-Y6. A great opportunity for your child to show you their work.
Erratum
Please note that the Junior Summer Concert is on Wednesday 26th June and not Thursday as stated in a recent letter. Please accept our apologies for any confusion caused.
Rose Ball
A reminder that if you have not booked your tickets for the Rose Ball yet, do so before Friday 24th May to take advantage of the early bird rate.
Should you wish to book a table at the Ball but have a group of more or less than 10 people hoping to sit together, don’t worry – we will happily accommodate your party whatever the size!
Summer Fair Stalls
Booking forms for anyone wishing to have a stall at the summer fair can now be obtained from the School Office.

Blast Off! Rocket Cars at CHS
On Wednesday 15th May, Y8 pupils will be making rocket cars. From 2.45-3.30pm the cars will be tested on the main drive of the school so the College Road gates will be closed and there will be restricted access on the main drive during this period. Parents collecting children should enter via the Clifton Park gates. Testing will be finished by 3.30pm so after-school activities will continue as normal.

Well done to
Charlotte in Y6
who achieved a
superb runner up
position in the
U12 county tennis
tournament. She only narrowly lost out
in the final to the number 1 seed after
putting up a very strong fight and
playing some excellent rallies with great
spirit. Well done, Charlotte!
The senior
sports teams
came
together for
the annual
Senior Sports
Lunch where many entertaining
speeches were heard, lots of awards
were given and a great lunch was
enjoyed by all. Look out for more
pictures and awards details.
CHS hosted Cathedral School for the first cricket fixture of the season with a very credible
result against very strong opposition including a number of county players. Great experience for our boys who showed excellent commitment and tenacity and spirit in their play.

Swimming news
Lucinda Larnach, William Gee Sophia Webb, Sam Hopkins, Mungo McConnel, Max Ward, Aleah Butt, Hattie Griffith-Malley, Alison Smith, Harriet Sylvester and India King participated in the Clifton Rotary Swimathon, swimming 669 lengths in 55 minutes to raise over £500 for Clifton Rotary charities.
Congratulations to Matt Bray in Y12 who swam an incredible time in the 50m freestyle event at regional level, earning himself a place in the Youth Nationals in the summer. We look forward to a fuller update on Matt’s fantastic recent swimming achievements and a sneak peek of his newest county shield and regional medals soon.
Our swimmers were very successful again when swimming against the cream of swimmers at the Bristol Schools’ Swimming Finals. Our eight Y5 and 6 finalists put everything in and their efforts paid dividends. Emily is the Bristol Schools’ champion in backstroke and George is now the boys’ breaststroke champion. Ben came 3rd in backstroke and 5th in front crawl. Charlotte
Gardner came 5th in breaststroke. We came 4th in both the girls’ medley team and freestyle team relays. All our finalists, Isabel, Catherine, Isabel, Emily, Charlotte, Hattie, Ben and George have every right to be proud. Congratulations!
