MISSION STATEMENTGreat journeys begin at the river. Knowing that each student comes to us with unique and infi nite value, we inspire and guide each student’s journey toward self-confi dence, purpose, and identity. To help students succeed in that journey, Christchurch, an Episcopal school, provides a sound college preparatory education in a caring, structured community. Part of that education includes stewardship of our river and awareness of the broader natural environment, so that our students learn to look beyond themselves to their place in the world around them. Our core values - curiosity, acceptance, integrity, respect, kindness and self-confi dence - are central to our mission and at the heart of everything we do.

ACCREDITATIONChristchurch School is accredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Schools (VAIS). Th e Virginia Council for Private Education Commission on Accreditation and the Virginia State Department of Education recognize VAIS as a valid accrediting agency for private schools in the Commonwealth. Christchurch School is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools, the National Association of Episcopal Schools, Th e Association of Boarding Schools, Th e National Honor Society, Th e College Board and the Secondary Schools Admissions Test Board.

Ways of Giving

Annual GivingAnnual giving strengthens and sustains the extraordinary opportunities of a Christchurch School education. These gifts have an immediate and direct benefit to each student and faculty member, as well as to the quality and range of school programming.

These tax deductible gifts to the Bell Tower Fund or donor designated fund are applied to innovative and challenging academic, athletic and arts programs; recruitment of talented faculty, affordable tuition for students with demonstrated need, small class sizes and individual attention to students, and the latest technology for education.

EndowmentEndowment gifts are invested and grow in value and provide a source of income without ever using the principle of the gift. Christchurch School’s endowment is currently at $2 million. Endowment gifts of $25,000 or more may be named in memory of, or in honor of, an individual. This is a wonderful way to recognize the special qualities of an individual each year.

Planned GiftsPlanned giving is a way to leave a lasting legacy. Christchurch School has been remembered by many alumni and friends through planned giving. These transforming gifts can be made as simple bequests, in trust, charitable remainder trust or charitable gift annuity.

Tribute & Memorial GiftsGifts of any kind may be made in honor or in memory of a family member, faculty member, alumnus, or other person whom you wish to recognize.

Matching GiftsMany employers match charitable giving by their staff members. This is a great way to double your gift. Information and specific requirements are available through your company’s human resources department.

Special Fund-Raising EventsChristchurch School also relies on the income from our annual auction in the fall of each year. This event is a big success thanks to strong volunteer support from our parents.

In the past year, Christchurch School was pleased to announce two bequests from alumni, Winslow Williams ’36 and Andrew Clarke ’71. Together, these generous graduates left their alma mater in excess of $1.5 million dollars. As the school receives the proceeds of their estates, we will be following the directives of the donors to use the money as they wished. Part of one bequest was designated for endowment, and so it will provide permanent income to the school to support programs dear to the donor’s heart.

We are also the recipient of another generous planned gift from a past parent. Th is donor chose another way of giving by presenting the school with an interest bearing bond. Th e principal and interest on the bond comes to the school at the time of the donor’s death. Th is donor donated a bond of $250,000 with an interest rate of 4.5%, great earning power in today’s market! Today, the value of the bond exceeds $320,000 and continues to grow.
