Christchurch Northern Corridor SH1 - Chaneys on-rampPROJECT UPDATE 20 OCTOBER 2020

The Christchurch Northern Corridor (CNC) Alliance team is closing the Chaneys on-ramp for good from Tuesday 27 October. To connect the new CNC motorway to SH1 some changes are needed. The existing Chaneys on-ramp will be removed to make way for the CNC northbound lanes.

Traffic ImpactClosing the Chaneys on-ramp means there is no access to SH1 at this point. People on Marshland Road wanting to access SH1 can either use QEII Drive, Prestons Road, Radcliffe Road or Belfast Road to access Main North Road and then SH1. These roads all have traffic signals to make safe turns onto Main North Road. Belfast Road signals will be activated in the next few weeks.

People can also continue on Marshland Road and Main North Road to enter SH1 from Ohoka Road.

Why are we doing this?The CNC project will unlock space for all travel modes and the transport solutions the community want to see like improved public transport, improve safety, reduce congestion, and more walking and cycling options.An efficient and reliable transport network into, out of and across Greater Christchurch is important to the social, economic and environmental future of the City and the South Island. Saturday between 7am and 7pm. Night work usually happens between 7pm and 7am.

› There will be noise and vibrations associated with the work. We will do what we can to lessen this.

› Keep yourself, your children and pets at a safe distance from the work sites. Please stay behind the construction fences at all times.

› All work sites are subject to weather and other unforeseen conditions.

The shared use path will run along the CNC motorway from Cranford Street in St Albans to the Tram Road and Main North Road intersection north of the Waimakariri Bridge. The shared cycleway route north of this intersection through to Kaiapoi runs along the western side of Main North Road. The Waimakariri District Council is starting the construction for this tomorrow.
