CHRIST THE KING COMMUNITY
Fellow Parishioners,
I am very happy to have this opportunity to tell you about our Religious Education (Faith For-
mation) Program here at Christ the King. This program is an important part of our Parish life.
Children and youth from Pre-School through Eighth Grade are welcomed and invited to deepen
their faith life and relationship with Jesus.
Christ the King’s mission statement “to hear the Gospel and make a difference” inspires the heart of our pro-
gram which focuses on Word, Worship, and Service. We invite all children/youth to break open the Word
(Scripture) and live the Good News of Jesus. We provide liturgies and communal prayer opportunities to lead
children to a deeper understanding and appreciation of Eucharist. Based on their understanding of the Word
and Worship, children/youth are offered opportunities of Service to one another and the church.
Before we know it, September will be here with a new opportunity to sow the seeds of God’s Word in the good
ground of our young people’s lives. Along with our regular weekly lessons we look forward to initiating some new
ways of coming together:
Once a month, beginning in October families of each grade level will be invited to celebrate Eucharist to-
gether and gather for refreshments following Mass.
During our weekly sessions there will be opportunities for the children to experience Mass at their level.
We hope to initiate a “Family Faith Community Program,” a place for families to form relationships with oth-
er families, to explore the presence of God in their daily lives, to learn more about their Catholic Faith
and to have fun in an intergenerational format (children and adults gathering together).
We look forward to offering a retreat for junior highers, and another retreat for our catechists.
None of this would be possible without the generosity of our catechists. Once again I want to express my
thanks to each of you who make it all happen. You are the ones who through your dedication, care and concern
witness to our children and families much more than the lessons you prepare. It is indeed a privilege to share in
ministry with you.
The R.E. Office is closed for summer break and will open Monday, August 10th. For anyone (new or returning)
who missed registration, you will have an opportunity to register during the week of August 10th – 13th. Regis-
tration hours will be
10:00 AM – 5:30 PM, Monday through Thursday. We will also offer registration Wednesday evening, August
12th, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM. All registration will take place in the R.E. Office (facing Gregory Lane).
With much gratitude to the Parish Staff and to you fellow parishioners for your continued support, I wish you
a happy, safe summer.
Long warm days…
The pace of life slows…
A time for picnics and rest in the shade…
Loving God, help me to rest awhile
In the cooling shade of your presence.
Slow down my restless heart and fill me
with gentle compassion for all
your people.
Amen

God’s Blessings!
Sister Maureen Viani

An update from the What if? Foun-dation, and our friends in Haiti. CTK
has generously donated over the years
to make Fr. Jean Juste’s dream a real-ity. Six years have passed since we
lost Fr. Juste, but his memory and
legacy is more alive than ever. This month the ground has been broken for
construction of a new school for ap-
proximately 60 children. Donations are still needed to complete the
school. If you feel called to help,
please make a donation online at whatiffoundation.org.or by mail at
1563 Solano Ave #192, Berkeley, CA
94507.
Do you want to do something to help immigrant families in your commu-
nity? Not sure where to start? Faith
in Action has invited Catholic Chari-ties of the East Bay legal staff to be
here at Christ the King to talk about
immigration legal services and listen to your ideas. This workshop is de-
signed for clergy, staff and parishion-
ers interested in learning how to help their neighbor. Thursday, July 16th
in the parish hall at 7:30 pm.
7:00 am ushers needed! Men and women of the parish! I am once
again reaching out to the CTK com-
munity to help us in this ministry! We offer hospitality to those arriv-
ing for mass, seat people before
mass, take up collections, assist those in the communion procession line
and help with other needs that may
arise. Contact Jack Murphy at 925-933-8072 or send an email if you are
interested to: [email protected].
