EASTER SUNDAY THE LORD IS RISEN! He has truly Risen! This is the greeting of the early Christians. Today we celebrate the truth of our faith; that the Lord is truly risen as He promised. It confused those who were not believers in Jesus Christ because they did not understand the statement— “He is risen.” We, however, do understand. We understand that the reason we celebrate Easter Sunday is because Jesus the Christ, the Anointed of God, was raised on the Sunday after the Sabbath dead. Welcome to all of our visitors —friends and family who are visiting, guests who are here to give praise and worship to the risen Christ. Today we celebrate the Sunday of Sundays. Today is the eighth day—the day of New Life, the day of resurrection. For the Jews, the Sabbath is Saturday. For Christians we celebrate on the first day of the week, Sunday. This is the day on which Jesus was raised from the dead and in his resurrection restored eternal life to all who had been lost because of the sin of disobedience. We Christians gather on the first day of the week so that we can begin our week giving back to God a portion of all that He has given to us—which is EVERYTHING. Since Holy Thursday night, we have been participating in the great Paschal event. Holy Thursday we gathered and washed one another’s feet—a sign of our call to be of service to one another. And we stayed in prayer with the Lord and the disciples until midnight. On Good Friday we gathered throughout the day observing/remembering the way of the cross, the Passion and death of the Savior, Jesus. During the day on Holy Saturday, I hope that you kept quiet. I hope that you remained in tense vigil—eagerly waiting for the celebration of the great Vigil of Holy Saturday night. Last night at the Vigil for Easter we blessed the new Easter fire and lit our new Easter Candle and we sang its praises. We listened to the re-telling of our salvation history beginning with our very creation and culminating with the resurrection of Jesus Christ. And we baptized those who had been in preparation for many months/years into our amazing Catholic Faith. Welcome to our new brothers and sisters. They and we must never forget that our journey does not end at Easter or with baptism, confirmation and first Eucharist. We are a pilgrim people—always journeying toward God. We will hear from the book of the Acts of the Apostles throughout the Easter Season. We will hear how the early disciples learned to live their new-found Christian faith and begin to adapt their lives. We will learn from them and we can be inspired by them so that we may all walk more closely as a child of the light of Christ. Happy Easter, one and all! But remember, our Easter season lasts 7 weeks ending on Pentecost Sunday, May 24.

EL DOMINGO DE PASCUA ¡EL SEÑOR HA RESUCITADO! ¡Verdaderamente ha resucitado!
Este es el saludo de los primeros cristianos. Hoy celebramos la verdad de nuestra fe; que el Señor ha resucitado verdaderamente como prometió. Confundió a quienes no eran creyentes en Jesucristo porque no entendían el mensaje — ' ¡él ha resucitado!”.Sin embargo nosotros si entendemos. Entendemos que la razón por la que celebramos el domingo de Pascua, es porque Jesús el Cristo, el ungido de Dios, fue resucitado el domingo después de la muerte del Sabbat. ¡Bienvenido! a todos nuestros visitantes, amigos y familiares que nos acompañan, los invitados que vienen a dar alabanza y adoración a Cristo resucitado. Hoy celebramos el domingo de los domingos. Hoy es el octavo día, el día de una nueva vida, el día de la resurrección. Para los judíos, el día de reposo es el sábado. Para los cristianos celebramos el primer día de la semana, el domingo. Este es el día en que Jesús resucitó de entre los muertos y en su resurrección restauro la vida eterna para todos los que habían perdido por el pecado de desobediencia. Nosotros los cristianos nos reunimos en el primer día de la semana así que podemos comenzar nuestra semana regresándole a Dios una porción de todo lo que él nos ha dado — que es todo. Desde la noche del Jueves Santo, hemos estado participando del gran evento Pascual. Jueves Santo nos hemos reunido y lavó los pies — una señal de nuestro llamado a estar al servicio el uno al otro. Y nos quedamos en la oración con el señor y sus discípulos hasta la medianoche. El Viernes Santo nos reunimos durante todo el día observando/recordando el camino de la Cruz, la pasión y muerte del Salvador, Jesús. Durante el día sábado Santo, espero que haya mantenido en silencio y en continua vigilia; esperando ansiosamente la celebración de la gran noche de vigilia del sábado Santo. Ayer por la noche en la vigilia de Pascual, se bendijo el nuevo fuego de Pascua nuevo, se encendió el Cirio Pascual nuevo y cantamos sus alabanzas. Escuchamos el volver a contar nuestra historia de salvación comienza con nuestra creación y culminando con la resurrección de Jesucristo. Y quienes habían estado en preparación durante muchos meses/años en nuestra fe católica los bautizamos. Bienvenidos a nuestros nuevos hermanos y hermanas. Ellos y nosotros nunca debemos olvidar que nuestro viaje no termina en la Pascua o con el bautismo, confirmación y primera comunión. Somos un pueblo peregrino — siempre viajando hacia Dios. Escucharemos el libro de los hechos de los apóstoles durante la temporada de semana Santa. Escuchamos cómo los primeros discípulos aprendieron a vivir su
nueva fe cristiana y comienzan adaptarla a sus vidas. Vamos a aprender de ellos y nosotros podemos ser inspirados por ellos para que todos podamos caminar más estrechamente como hijo de la luz de Cristo. ¡Felices Pascuas!, a todos y cada uno, pero recuerde, nuestro tiempo de Pascua dura 7 semanas hasta el Domingo de Pentecostés, 24 de mayo. Pastoral Response to Domestic Violence
This area of domestic violence is a new initiative from the
Office of Family Life Ministry; this event is aiming to bring
alternatives and resources to the ministers working in
parishes. This presentation will take place on
April 14 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
at St. Dominic Archdiocesan Center – Chancery
Building (2403 Holcombe Blvd. Houston, TX 77021).
