Mathematics Week 6 Work Period: 4 May – 8 May
Dear Parent/s or Guardians
As we enter our sixth week now of providing on-line support material for mathematics, we would like to thank you all for your time and continued support in assisting your child with the work that has been provided. We are fully aware of the very trying circumstances that both parents and learners are in, due to the lockdown. We are aware that the printing of the work provided may, in some instances, not be possible and are looking into ways to ensure that teaching and learning continues, without the need to print.
PLEASE NOTE : The work that is shared via this platform is merely for exposure purposes, to help ease the transition when schools re-open. There is no need to print it out as the content can be conveyed to your child in a practical way on scraps of paper using the worksheet as a guide. Should any learner not have been able to access or complete the work given, or is having difficulty with any concepts, they will not be penalized or held accountable for this, in any way, when returning to school.
The aim is not to put pressure on, or overwhelm, learners. But rather, as far as possible, to try nurture confidence through repetition of a consistent format of work that is familiar to them. Allow your child to work at the pace and volume that they are comfortable with (while also suiting your own personal circumstances best). If you are unable to get to all the weekly work or notice that your child is finding a particular concept challenging, rather stop or move on to another page. There is no need to “catch-up” what you do not get to and the class teacher is available to answer any question you have.
You may be selective with work and even omit parts of worksheets or split the workload over several days if you prefer. All work WILL be revisited once schools re-open. The work serves as a recap of basic skills needed to fully master the concepts that we will be teaching. These have already been touched on in the previous grade. For example, if you would rather only do 1 or 2 of 6 problems presented in the work page, that is perfectly acceptable. If your child, however, is capable and feels confident enough or wants to do more, give them the freedom to decide and do as much as they are comfortable with.
If you can view, but are not able to print the material, let your child write their answers out on a separate page and refer to the content being asked. Counting and Mental Math does not need to be written out, it can be done verbally and informally during the day.
It is important that learners stick to the now established routine of:1) COUNTING [different intervals each day i.e. 1’s/2’s/3’s/4’s/5’s]2) Doing MENTAL MATHS [can be done verbally and/or written]3) Practicing NUMBER CONCEPT/S [ 1 work page a day]
This week the CONCEPTS we will be covering are:1) GROUPING /Repeated addition leading to multiplication (Optional: a FUN GAME) 2) SHARING (Work page can be split over two days & learners may choose 2 from top section, 2 from bottom) 3) OPTIONAL: Mixed Maths word problems (can be split over four days, 1 problem a day)
Mathematics Term 2 Week 6
Counting: Fill in the missing numbers in the blocks. Count backwards in 1’s from 130 to 101
Mental Maths: Adding & Subtracting 10
Number Concept: Grouping / Repeated addition
130
101
321
10 + 10 = 20 + 10 = 30 + 10 = 40 + 10 = 50 + 10 =
50 – 10 = 40 – 10 = 30 – 10 = 20 – 10 = 10 – 10 =

Repeated addition and Multiplication: https://youtu.be/FhtaINEFvew
Have some fun practising your Repeated Addition/Grouping using DICE (NOTE : If you do not have dice, a HOME-MADE DICE TEMPLATE is available, which
can be traced or real dice from a board game may be used for this activity.)
2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 8 4 x 2 =
8 8 dots
Mathematics Term 2 Week 6
Counting: Count in 2’s from 2 to see how many dots there are altogether
There are _____ dots altogether
Mental Maths: Adding & Subtracting 10 or 20
Number Concept: Sharing / Division
PLEASE NOTE: This can be done with real objects such as beans and cups and/or drawn in the blocks provided or a redrawn on a blank page

When we share we can draw a circle/columns to show the GROUPS
Draw a circle/column for each group and THEN
share the number out equally between the groups
SHARE THE NUMBER out 1 by 1 till it’s done!
Remember to put 1 in each circle or column till there is no more left to share.
10 + 10 = 20 +
10 = 20 + 20
=30 + 10 =
30+20 =
40 – 10 =40 – 20 =
30 – 10 = 30 – 20 = 20 – 10 =
Let’s Practice: SHARING into groups
Share the biscuits equally between the dogs. Write the answer in the block
Mathematics Term 2 Week 6
Counting:
Share 12 biscuits between 2 dogs
Share 20 biscuits between 2 dogs
Share 15 biscuits between 3 dogs
Share 21 biscuits between 3 dogs.
Share 12 biscuits between 4 dogs. .
Share 36 biscuits between 4 dogs
Mental Maths: 10 less and 10 more
Number Concept: Word Problems
Make sure you read & understand the story Look for the numbers and CLUE WORDS
What kind of sum is it? + - x ÷ Draw a picture to solve and / or write the sum Remember to fill in the answer sentence
Solve the problems below showing your working out or by writing a sum
There were 5 desks in the class. Each desk had 3 books on. How many books are there altogether?
There are ____ books altogether
10 less than 25 is ___ 10 more than 34 is __10 less than 32 is ___ 10 more than 40 is __10 less than 27 is ___ 10 more than 19 is ___10 less than 43 is ___ 10 more than 26 is __10 less than 21 is ___ 10 more than 39 is __
