Introducing new choral works by Joanna Gill
In this setting of Psalm 117 the composer has created an
unusually serene and ethereal setting considering the meaning of
the text. Not only that it uses Hebrew text, but the whole
composition with the exception of one bar is dynamically quiet and
reflects not so much on praising the Lord but the love that the
Lord shares with us, hence the title of the work.
Written for unaccompanied mixed choir, this is a simple
four-part composition. It is a work that with rehearsal all choirs
will find very rewarding to sing and perform.

Universal Edition
This work is a reflective setting of a popular blessing used
regularly in both church services and within choral concerts. It is
a welcome addition to the choral repertoire and will make a change
from the usual sung settings currently performed.
Scored for unaccompanied mixed choir, the four parts are often
divided to create an eight-part texture. Within this short setting
a variety of beautiful shifting choral combinations are used:
sopranos and tenors against altos and basses, sopranos against
altos, tenors and basses and finally alto and tenor lines which
lead into the concluding six-part texture ending on a radiant E
major chord spread over three octaves.

Joanna Gill
Joanna is an award-winning composer born in Perth, Scotland.
After studying choral music alongside Royal Composer, Paul Mealor,
her passion to study composing for Film and TV brought her to
London where she currently works as a composer. Joanna’s music has
been performed all across the UK including some of London’s most
prestigious venues; St Martin in the fields, the Barbican, Hampton
Court Palace and the Royal Albert Hall. Joanna sings regularly with
the London Symphony Chorus, works with HTB Chamber Choir and has
recently had some of her choral music recorded.
Joanna is also a confident orchestrator and arranger and is
currently writing an orchestral score for the soundtrack to an
event at the Royal Albert Hall. Her passion, in her writing, is to
bring out characters, emotions and stories through music.
