General Awareness on Obesity

The pandemic of obesity and overweight in developed

and developing countries presents a challenge to public

health and requires medical intervention, modification

of individual behaviour and environmental changes.

WHO has classified obesity as a disease and also one of

the fastest growing threats to the population and the

youth. Obesity is a medical condition in which excess

body fat accumulates to the extent that it may have a

negative effect on health. All methods of measuring a

fat content in the living subject are to a greater or

lesser degree indirect. People are generally considered

obese when their body mass index or BMI is over 30. The

new recommendation of BMI in Asian population defines

BMI greater than 23 overweight. Obesity increases the

likelihood of various diseases particularly heart

diseases, type 2 diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea,

certain types of cancer and osteoarthritis. It is most

commonly caused by combination of excessive food

intake, lack of physical activity and genetic

susceptibility. The growing trends of junk food are

leading to increasing obesity in youngsters and which

can also affect the future of our nation. It is high time

to end obesity in youths and solutions are waiting to be

implemented. Youths need to become health conscious

and follow a balanced diet along with the physical

activities. They need to learn time management in

order to find time to exercise. Being fit is the secret

behind successful student. So, by keeping obesity away

let’s inspire the youth to take a step towards health and

lay the foundation stone for a bright future.

My Dream My dream is to make world in peace,

And to make lifestyle filled with ease.

No more wars and no more guns,

Let’s weigh the joy in tons.

My dream is to remove hate,

Let’s be calm, it’s not too late.

My dream is to make everyone unite,

It is possible only when there is no fight.

I wish to see this world,

With no more tears and fears,

But with a new light and cheer,

Where everyone’s eyes shine bright,

To see love bloom in every heart outright.

Creation of God

The beauty of sunshine, the majesty of ocean and the

wonders of new born baby are all God’s glorious

creation and is around us. We ourselves are a part of

that creation. Everything we see, we can’t see it all

come from God who is the creator of the mankind. He

created everyone unique inthe way he wanted us to

be. Each one of us is the masterpiece of God’s

creation and therefore we should thank God. Loving

everyone, forgiving others helping those in need are

some of the ways in which we can thank God. There is

a famous quote –‘To the world you may be a single

person but to a single person you may be the whole

world.’ So, whenever there is any problem,

Remember God is always with you. It is rightly said-

ईश्वर कहते हैं मैं तेरे साथ हूँ सामन ेनहीं आस पास हूँ !

पलकों को बंदकर और ददल से याद कर मैं कोई और नहीं

तेरा विश्वास हूँ।

Empathy fosters relationships

Empathy is one of the most important personality traits to be encouraged in a child’s social development. Empathy is the ability to imagine ourselves in someone else's place. The development of empathy lays a critical foundation for academic achievement as well as work related skills. At present, there is a highly competitive education environment obsessed with grades, standardized tests, and assessments. Empathy fosters friendship based on a positive relationship. The teachers and parents model empathy to the children. Sharing tasks and group-based activities at school helps to strengthen empathy in a child. Children observe empathy in this way and absorb it into their own behaviour. In the initial formative years at Montessori, the children must be nurtured in the ways of grace, courtesy, compassion and harmony in order for it to flourish and grow throughout their lives.

Ms. Ankita Neema Mother of Aarav Neema Class: Senior Montessori

Seeing with the eyes of people

‘Empathy is seeing with the eyes of another, Listening with the ears of other, and feeling with the heart of another.’ Empathy means to understand and share another person's experience and emotions. Life is much simpler when we can strip away our differences and simply see each other as what we are, fellow human beings. It is the ability to share someone else's feelings and is the test of one’s true character and the feeling itself is the reward. With empathy in our hearts, we start appreciating others and understanding their feelings and point of view. Empathy, when used in our daily lives reduces conflicts and makes world a better place to live. Empathy is about finding echoes of another person in ourselves which we must adopt to bring about a change in our lives.

Ms. Joyita Benerjee Teacher - Senior Montessori

Empathy goes beyond Sympathy

Empathy is the awareness of the feelings and emotions of people and experiencing those emotions ourselves. It goes beyond sympathy and feeling with that person by using of our imagination. We can also create empathy by listening to the problems of people and then telling them about our problems. We must show sensitivity, understand the perspectives of people and also show plenty of concern for them before talking about our situations. It’s not always easy to empathize with others but we can always work towards more empathetic feelings. The people who can empathize enjoy better relationships with others and greater well being in their lives. Demonstrating empathy shows that we care for people and like them. It increases their trust and bond with us. The way to gain empathy is by displaying sadness to evoke pity, showing happiness to raise their emotions, apologizing and explaining why we did something wrong so that people understand us and forgive, by helping others so they feel that they must help us too. Empathy also helps us understand them better and enables us to make decisions and create interactions which appeals to them and make them more likely to agree with us. We must always be empathetic towards everyone to make this world a better place to live in. Amatullah Haidry Class: III E

20

Putting ourselves in others’ shoes

Empathy is the ability to understand others’ feelings and understand the situation they are in. It is the ability to put ourselves in their shoes and to understand the way a situation might make them feel. I believe, empathy is about sharing an emotion with someone or feeling the way they feel, even if we aren’t in the same situation. Whenever we feel an emotion along with someone, even if we aren’t directly affected by whatever is causing their situation, that’s empathy. Empathy is really important for how well we get along with people. Whether we can be a good friend or successful with a team constituting others, all of these things depend upon being able to understand how others might see a situation and how they are feeling. A world without empathy would be chaotic and uncultured. It makes us feel as if someone cares for us: without it we would likely feel vulnerable and lonely. It is the root of all healthy relationships. It helps us know how our actions affect others, what actions we need to take to be a good friend or teammate, and it helps us understand more about the people and the beautiful world around us.

Ms. Yashashri Lole Teacher - Primary

A Path to Enlightenment

People are too busy these days in their career and hobbies that there is no time left to be aware of others’ troubles, to be sensitive to their sorrows, feelings and to actually help others to solve their problems. I believe that empathy to people’s concerns, feelings and trouble in lives is a good deed we must practice.

These days, people have lot of things to care about. Kids care about the new gadgets in the market for playing, the teenagers care about the most stylish clothes to wear, the white collar people care about economy and their next promotion. Have we ever had time to care about disabled or poor people? Have we ever given a thought to old people’s needs and requirements? No! Empathic people are those who express their feelings towards your problems with sympathy and understanding. We ought to be that.

Often, the importance of empathy is underestimated. It should be taught in primary school by teachers in cooperation with pupil’s family. The kids should be encouraged to empathize with their family, classmates, and friends. By doing so, we would make our lives much more meaningful and joyful. The lost indifference to others’ agony and suffering will end us up being in a feeling less world. I believe we all have a bit of empathy in our hearts that we must let flow.

Ms. Surbhi Khabya Mother of Ritika Khabya Class: III A
