Chemists often specialize in a subfield such as analytical, organic, inorganic, physical, theoretical, macromolecular, medical, and materials chemistry. BSC’s program provides the first two years of core classes toward a baccalaureate degree. Coursework includes general and organic chemistry, university physics, calculus and differential equations. Students who complete the curriculum requirements earn an Associate in Science degree. Employment of chemists is projected to grow 6 percent through 2022 with most chemists employed by industry, government and academic institutions, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
