KGaA, Weinheim www.cheminform.wiley-vch.de Electric properties D 8000 Structure and Low Temperature Physical Properties of Ba8Cu6Ge40. — The title compound (actual composition Ba 8 Cu 6.32 Ge 38.48 ) is prepared from the elements (1073 K, 240 h) and characterized by powder XRD, magnetization, heat capacity, elec- trical resistivity, Seebeck coefficient, and thermal conductivity measurements. It crys- tallizes with clathrate structure in the space group Pm3 n. The material is diamagnetic and exhibits low thermal conductivity, high thermoelectric power, and low electrical conductivity. The maximum figure of merit is 0.0074 at 300 K.
