22 - 165Polyether Antibiotic CP44,161. — The crystal structure of titlecompound (I) monohydrate is elucidated by X-ray analysis and the relativeconfiguration is determined based on the absolute stereochemistry of relatedcompound salinomycin. The polyether molecule adopts a cyclic conformation, stabilized by a centrally located water molecule through hydrogen-bondinginteractions. Further investigations will find out if the water molecule canbe replaced by a metal ion, so that polyether (I) can act as ionophore. —(ALLEN, PAUL; BRIMBLE, MARGARET A.; TURNER, PETER; ActaCrystallogr., Sect.
