2001 antibiotics antibiotics U 1200 22 - 165 Polyether Antibiotic CP44,161. The crystal structure of title compound (I) monohydrate is elucidated by X-ray analysis and the relative configuration is determined based on the absolute stereochemistry of related compound salinomycin. The polyether molecule adopts a cyclic conformation, stabilized by a centrally located water molecule through hydrogen-bonding interactions. Further investigations will find out if the water molecule can be replaced by a metal ion, so that polyether (I) can act as ionophore.
