2001 bismuth, Bi bismuth, Bi I 5400 37 - 019 Bi 4 Te 4 4+ A Cube-Shaped, Polycationic Main Group Element Cluster. Black crystals of Bi 4 Te 4 [AlCl 4 ] 4 are obtained from Te, Bi, TeCl 4 , and BiCl 3 in a NaCl/AlCl 3 melt (evacuated glass tube, 130 C, 6 d, 10% yield). The compound crystallizes in the tetragonal space group I 4, as determined by single crystal XRD. The structure contains Bi 4 Te 4 4+ and AlCl 4 - ions. The cations have the shape of a slightly distorted cube whose corners are occupied alternately by Bi and Te atoms. The MO scheme of the cation cluster obtained from quantum chemical ab initio calculations is given and discussed. — (BECK, JOHANNES; DOLG, MICHAEL; SCHLUETER, STEFAN; Angew. Chem., Int.
