    BYE STRATEGY

A lot of people have tried to over complicate the bye strategy, butrealistically in order to pick a team that is going to be competitive ona week to week basis, you cannot let the fear of a bye ruin your teamstructure. This is not to say they shouldnt be taken into considera-tion, but our simple rules are:(1) Aim to have only two keepers in each position sharing their

bye, as cash cows have usually maxed out by then.(2) Trading strategy leading up to the byes should be kept in

mind for balance.(3) Use trades in bye weeks wisely in order to not only cover

donuts, but strengthen your team for the run home - usingnormal downgrading and upgrading.

    (4) Sideways trades arent a no-no, but obviously look to trade insomeone who has completed their bye.

DT TALK ROOKIE RANKINGSOur rookie rankings are based on our thoughts of these guys through the NAB Cup, junior history and our priceless DTgut feel (something like a sixth sense), obviously not including any GWS and SYDNEY players. (% = Time on Ground)

After originally starting with aweak backline, my concernsabout the job security surround-ing the cheap defenders got thebetter of me which caused a shiftin focus toward players that arehighly likely selections on a weekto week basis in regard be beingreasonably durable and best 22.Although Broughton has tradi-tionally caused me massive head-aches, I have been impressed with

his pre season to date, along withthe fact Ross Lyons Saints de-fenders have been traditionallygood scorers. At the moment Iam not happy with Morris in myteam and will seek trades in or-der to have the money to makehim Ellis.

After spending a lot of the preseason going with 5 premiums inthe midfield, I decided to chasesome of the quality rookies as Iwasnt will willing to miss out on

all their money making potential. My first bad call of the year wasevident in game 1 by backing theunderdone Shiel to outscore theexperienced McDonald, but hey,its only early. At this stage I havepicked Pendlebury over Swan, basically due to the fact the he isslightly cheaper, younger and Piecaptain Nick Maxwell has donethe same which gives me addedconfidence.

Due to the value in the ruck de-partment I have gone with threeruck rookies, mainly because Ilike their job security. For a lot ofthe pre season Cox held mynumber one spot in the

    ROYS PLAYERS OF DIFFERENCE

Tom Rockliff:Rocky was the first player I selected after being my risky pick last year andgoing on to be one of the best midfielders in the competition. The way hefinished last season was hard to ignore after not dropping below 100 in hislast eleven games. Also the fact dreamteamtalk.com now sponsors the great

man who I affectionately call my boy he was hard for me to pass up.

Mitch Golby:There are many mid priced defenders putting their hand up in defence this

year and the one I am currently going with is Golby who has had a magnifi-cent pre season where he has demonstrated outstanding ball winning ability

and run off half back. It looks like he will be given early games and everychance to prove himself. In his last game of the NAB he scored an impres-

sive 94 from 21 touches to seal the deal.

ruck but the money Ineededto strengthen my weak back-line came from his downgradeto the player I thought wasthe second best option thisyear in Mumford. HopefullyCox will come in as my num-ber one during the year.

My forward line would bequite common with no realsurprise selections apart fromMitch Robinson who is onlyowned by 4% of the competi-tion. I, like may have loadedup with a large number ofDPP options.

    CALVINS PLAYERS OF DIFFERENCE

    Sam Mitchell:

After his 36d (121pts) in his last NAB game he really caught my eye. Im expecting theHawks to be even better in 2012 and for Sam to dominate once again. He can also bedown the line when it comes to being tagged with the likes of Hodge and Cyril beingaround. I was tossing up between Rocky and Mitchell, but after seeing his bye was inRd. 13, it was an easy call.

Dane Swan:I cant believe these other muppets are not starting with Dane. In 2011, Swan hadpre-season games of 125, 94, 77 and 77... Then he went 137, 162, 116 and 132 when

the season started. This year will be similar (hopefully) and hes a guy I dont wantto be playing against!

As you can see... I haveloaded up with a massive gun, slap ya in the face midfield. My theory here is simple. In2010, our mate Chopper didthe same in after 3 rounds hewas sitting in the top 5 in thecompetition. In 2011, Royloaded up his midfield and satpretty all year. So this year, its my turn.

Usually I stack my backlinebut after a disastrous 2011

Ive done the opposite andwill back my rookies to score50-60 till I upgrade them asthe year progresses. So farthis moved has paid off withBugg scoring impressively.Lucky duck V8!

My biggest problem for theserooks is their job security. Aride Im willing to take at thisstage. I have selected a fewplayers purely based on their

byes. For example, I haveMumford to switch to Coxafter he has his bye and SamMitchell has the last bye (13)and can easily be straightswapped to someone likePendles after his Rd. 12 bye.

So youve noticed I haveDane Swan. Of course I doand Im hoping its the rightcall. He usually has a poor preseason and smokes it whenthe real stuff starts. He aver-

aged 130 in the first 5 gameslast year and its not some-thing I want to miss out on.

Eat a banana, fly the flag!

    WARNIES TEAM

What a massive pre-season ithas been! This side and struc-ture, has been pretty settledfor me over the last couple ofweeks.

One thing youll notice com-paring our teams is that ourforward (and ruck) lines areexactly the same. A fair bit ofgroup think there, but really...it should be a fairly commonline up as there is arguably alot of upside in all of thoseplayers. Im worried aboutDickson not being selected, but can do a reshuffle toAaron Hall if needed.

Im the only one of us with aDPP link (Pfeiffer MID/FWD).While I dont think it is hugelyimportant in the game thisyear, it might be handy in oneof the weeks.

A decision that caused me themost stress was the 1 pre-mium, 3 rookie ruck structure.

Oh boy! I finally settled onwhat happened to be the sameline up as Roy and Calvin withMumford as my premium. Itwill be my goal to have DeanCox by the end of the year...hopefully!

One bad call so far with Shielon over McDonald, but atleast I have the GWS guys Iwant, so no patch up tradedthere... yet!

    WARNIES PLAYERS OF DIFFERENCE

No Pendlebury or Swan:One of my gutsy calls was going in without either Scott Pendlebury or Dane Swan! Why? Im not surereally... I could afford them, and they have been in past incarnations of the Warne Dawgs. But I see upsideand value in Boyd, Ablett, Selwood and Gibbs as my premium midfielder. I like what Calvin has done loadingup, but Im backing my gut here. Swanny will come in after his mid-season Arizona trip!

Bryce Gibbs:I was surprised not to see Gibbsy pop up in Roys team. He is the reason I have him! Im pretty confident

with Bryce this year and that he will improve his average to over 110. Durable as they come - not missing agame in the last 3 seasons, he is a unique for me against the other blokes!
