We hit the ground running with the election of officers at the Post meeting on May 1 st . Please come and take part in the political life of the Post. We will be adjusting the calendar by celebrating the fifth on the fourth (Cinco de Mayo) with tacos instead of burgers that Friday. The Kentucky Derby Party on Saturday the fifth necessitates the change. Two Fifth District meetings (SAL on Tuesday and American Legion on Thursday) will be held here at the Post the following week. Planning for the events of Memorial Day weekend is well underway. Pastor Michael Goers has graciously offered St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Spring Lake for the 6:00 p.m. service on Sunday. Monday’s parade route has been extended to Escanaba Memorial Park (the construction at Waterfront Stadium requires a venue change) for the annual memorial service. The “Eternal Flame” and “Lake Forest Cemetery” events will take place as usual. Post 28 parade participants are invited to a hearty breakfast cooked and served by Past Commander Veihl and the “Coopersville Gang” before the parade. Check the calendar for your many other opportunities to participate in the life of YOUR POST. ATTEND, PARTICIPATE, VOLUNTEER, the payoff comes in the form of “comradeship”! SAVE THE DATE: June 13 th , 11:00 a.m. at Escanaba Memorial Park Memorial Service: 75 th Anniversary of the sinking of USCG Cutter Escanaba Jim Porenta, 100 th Commander Post 28 TRANSFERS Jerry Orcutt, Vietnam USA/USAF Ronald Scott, Vietnam USAF Daniel J.
