Chapter Election Process• Your Chapter Bylaws

Who Can Run for Office?• Member in good standing – a member

whose membership is up to date with both IFMA HQ and the chapter at the time of elections and during the entire term of office while elected.

• An officer who has not just completed serving a term in that office.

Chapter Elections• In March:

– Nominating Committee chaired by the most recent past chapter president willing to serve

– Committee chair appoints a minimum of two additional members

– Not all should be chapter board members– Committee should meet and put together the

officer slate

Chapter Elections• In April

– The Nominating Committee Chair presents the slate at a chapter meeting

– This is an important opportunity for the general membership to make nominations from the floor!

– Ballot is distributed1. Includes Nominating Committee’s officer slate2. Nominees brought from the floor for each officer

position3. A blank space for write-in candidates for each

officer position– Nominating Committee chooses distribution

Chapter Elections• Tabulation

– Bylaws require four weeks between distribution and tabulation (counting the votes)

– Nominating Committee determines how to validate and count the ballots

– Tie? Winner decided by “lot” – draw straws, high card, rock-paper-scissors…

– Nominating Committee Chair reports results to the chapter membership

– Only officers are elected– Directors are appointed by the president– The president-elect should be planning his

board appointments during the election process

– It is up to the president whether committee officers fill the director positions.
