    Moving A PC

    Take precautions while moving

    computer components.

    back up data before shifting

    disconnect all components of thesystems

    pack the components in theirrespective boxes

    remove CDs and diskettes do not keep sharp objects near the

    monitor

    do not keep objects over thekeyboard

    PC Connections

    Cleaning PC

    Put a few drop of isopropyl alcohol onthe circular portion of the diskette

    Use any liquid for cleaning TV screen Use vacuum cleaner

    Clean keyboard circuit board with cleantissue dipped with alcohol

    Mouseo Turn the mouse cover anti-

    clockwise to release the ball,

    remove the cover and take the ball

    out.

    dust/hair/debris.

    put the ball back in and replace the

    cover turning clockwise to lock it in

    place.

    Use vacuum cleaner to clean any speckof paper

    Protecting Data Against Virus

    Virus ethics :

    Precautions need to be taken tohave a virus free system

    Data backup

    If virus infects your PC, you might lose

    all the data in the hard disk. You can

    back up your files to safeguard them

    against loss.

    Multiple Backup - Always make twosets of backup copies so that if one

    copy is lost, you can have another

    one to fall back on.

    Intelligent Backup - You need notbackup the same item each day.

    Backup only the item that you have

    changed during the day.

    Timely Backup - It is critical tobackup your work every 15

    minutes, particularly in places with

    a history of power breakdown.

    Formatting Diskettes

    Why need formatting ?

    deletes existing files cleans up the unusable areasSteps to format :

    Assume that the diskette is insertedin the relevant disk drive

    Double-click on the My Computericon

    Click on the icon for the diskette On the File Menu, click on Format

    Scanning the disk

    The needs ??

    The files becomes too large for yourcomputer to store in a single

    location on a disk.

    What happen to the files ?

    Computer will splits the file up andstores it in pieces.

    What can you do ?

    Use disk defragmenter -Rearranging the files & free space

    on your computer

    How to use it ?

    Quit all applications programs. Click the Start button, point to All

    Programs, point to Accessories, point to

    System Tools and then click at Disk

    Defragmenter.

    If necessary, select the hard disk youwant to analyze and defrag from the

    hard disk list in the Disk Defragmenter

    window. Click at the Analyze button.

    When the analysis is complete, click atthe View Report button in the smaller

    Disk Defragmenter dialog box.

    Close the Analysis Report dialog box.

    Click the Defragment button. Thedefragmentation process can take a few

    hoursto complete. When the

    defragmentation is complete, click the

    Close button in the smaller Disk

    Defragmenter dialog box.

    Click the Close button in the DiskDefragmenter window.
