The teachers and I would like to extend a very warm welcome (and welcome back!) to all of our fami-
lies! We are very excited to be kicking off a new school year in our center! By now you have all received your
welcome packet, which includes your enrollment paperwork and important documents related to our center,
such as our family handbook and school calendar. You will receive even more information in the upcoming
weeks, including information from your child’s teachers about your son or daughter’s classroom and daily
routines. Soon you will also receive a staff information packet so you can learn more about the wonderful
team of people who care for your children each day. To meet these people in person and to learn more
about our center, please plan to join us on October 5, 2016 at our Fall Open House. We invite you to stop by
anytime between 5:00 and 7:00 that evening to participate in school-wide activities that will give you the op-
portunity to explore our facility, to meet the staff across the center, and to learn more about your child's
daily activities. At Open House, you will also have the chance to sign up for Family Conferences, which will
be held in late October. We hope to see you there!
I invite you to visit our center anytime—we have an open door policy. You are welcome to observe
your child in his/her classroom through our observation windows or you can head into your child’s classroom
for a visit. We will be sending out information about volunteer opportunities in our monthly newsletters and
we also have regular family events which you can attend. Our first event will be on September 27 as we take
a field trip to Way Fruit Farm. More information on our upcoming field trip will be coming home soon!
If you ever have questions, concerns, or positive feedback to share about our center, please feel free to stop
by my office, call (238-4434) or email ([email protected].) I look forward to working with you
and your children throughout this school year!
Change
The beginning of the school year brings change.
There may be a change in your morning rou-
tine, change in a new class for your child, or
change in your child’s teacher. When we pre-
sent change to children, we always talk about
the excitement and development that is hap-
pening. They are ready for new goals, develop-
ment and learning. It is wondrous to see these
developments in our children. We say, ‘you are
going to be a big Lion Cub, Elephant or Zebra.
Look how big you have become.” We greet the
change with optimism. It is an exciting new
place where they will grow and develop.
This year, as a staff, we said goodbye to a
wonderful Director, Brandy. We also
welcomed our new Director, Jess. So let’s greet
this new change, just as we greet the change
and development of our children. Miss Amy is
becoming Mrs. Amy and is moving up to a lead
Teacher Position. Ms . Madyson is joining our
team full time in the Elephant room as a PCA/
Assistant teacher. I am moving up to co-teach
with Ms Kaitlyn in the Zebra room. Ms
Mackenzie and Ms Bryanna had beautiful baby
girls. Ms Danielle & Ms Madyson are getting
married in the fall.
Just as our children move and grow and
change, we too will grow and change. In choos-
ing to greet this change with optimism we can
set the stage for an exciting new place for all us
to grow and learn together. Welcome to the
new school year!!
• The Early Learning Standards are a guideline in Pennsylvania
for what preschools should cover at each age of develop-
ment, from infants through prekindergarten age. These are
building blocks for the learning standards used in elemen-
tary school through high school in our state. The Early
Learning Standards include standards for Approaches to
Learning, Creative Arts, Science, Social Studies, Math, Liter-
acy, Physical Health, Personal Social Skills, and Creative
Arts. Some standards are ongoing, while others we target
through our themes each month. Here are the standards
we’ll be emphasizing in September:
• The Giraffes will be working on moving and controlling
their bodies through gross motor activities. They will also be
exploring new sounds and gestures through some sign lan-
guage.
• The Lion Cubs will be working on communication, both ver-
bal and non-verbal such as sign language. The Lion Cubs will
also be learning about new routines and rules. As they ex-
plore animals in the jungle they will talk about differences
in sizes.
• The Elephants will be learning about our classroom and
what it means to behave like an Elephant. We will focus on
how to share with others, why it is important to listen to
teachers and friends and that we are all different and
unique but that is was makes us so special. Most important,
we are going to have fun as we get to know each other and
our new classroom.

The Giraffe Giggler Welcome to our Jungle and Welcome to the new school year! There are fun activities
planned for exploring our jungle classroom, searching for animals and practicing our lan-
guage and gross motor skills. We are going to work on our sign language and movements
(crawling and walking). The kids will have many art opportunities with various materials
and textures! We just wanted to remind you that we will be taking walks and playing out-
side as long as the weather will allow us, if you could please send in sunscreen for your
children. As the weather starts to get chilly in the mornings, please also bring in a light
jacket. We look forward to welcoming new friends this fall and broadly expanding your
child's skills this school year!
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to talk to me in person or email me (Miss
Brittany) at [email protected]
Lion Cub Ledger
Welcome to the start of a new school year! I (Miss Krystal) am so excited to be start-
ing off the school year with so many new faces in our classroom! One of which is a
long term sub, Mr. Tim. He will be with us for the remainder of September as Miss
Mackenzie is out on maternity leave. Please help me in welcoming him to our class-
room! During the month of September we will be getting to know ourselves, our
friends and our classroom a little bit better as we jump into our theme for the
month, Jungle safari. We will find out what it truly means to be a “Lion Cub” as we
work on following classroom rules and how we can be better friends to one another.
In addition to this we will be learning about some fun and exciting animals that live in
the Jungle. We will be focusing on the concept of big vs. small as we really get to
know some of these animals.
I know that this can be an exciting yet stressful month as we are all getting back into
the swing of a normal routine. If you have any questions or concerns about your child
or anything regarding how things run in the Lion Cub room, please feel free to con-
tact me!

Elephant Express Welcome Elephants!! The teachers from the Elephant Room can’t wait to get to
know you and your children as we grow and learn together this year. We are so
excited for each and every student that is joining us. For the month of September
we will be going on a jungle safari to learn about our new classroom, new friends
and new teachers. We are sure to have fun as we learn about what it means to be
an elephant, how we can play and share with our friends, and what makes each of
us special and unique.
On the first day of school we will read Mouse Loves School and talk about all the
wonderful and new things Mouse found in his classroom on the first day of
school. Then, we will go on an adventure to find some of the same things in our
own classroom. We hope that everyone becomes comfortable in our new room
and learns how to use the spaces to have fun and learn. We know this is going to
be a fantastic year! Please don’t hesitate to reach out to the elephant team at any
time, we love hearing from you.
Welcome to the Zebra Classroom! We are excited to start this year. Please refer to the Zebra Welcome Packet for lots of infor-
mation about your child’s new classroom. Ms Kaitlyn, Ms Emily and I can’t wait to get started learning and having fun
with the children.
This month we will be orienting to the classroom and each other, introducing reciprocal communication with adults and
peers, and going over new and old academic concepts. We will be singing and reading together every day. We can’t wait
to start learning together. If you have any questions please
send us an email or check in with us in person.

Henry’s Book Nook is a very special place where children have the opportunity to explore the wonderful world of books! This
space was created to remember our dear friend Henry Walker and the love he had for books. The Book Nook is located in the
back hallway of our school, across from the restrooms. Over the years we have added audio books,
puppets, felt stories and even a pet Hermit Crab named April. We also have a check-out system in
place so that you and your child can enjoy these spectacular stories at home! The check-out log is
located by April’s tank and the book bags are located behind the door. We ask that you return the
books in 3 weeks time so others may enjoy them too. Thank you for visiting Henry’s Book Nook!!

Back to School Health and Safety Tips
• For many, summer meant staying up late to savor the season. But as summer comes to an end , it’s important to
get your child back to a regular bedtime routine. Try to establish a “calm down” period about a half hour before
bedtime—turn off the TV and other electronics, snuggle and read a book, and start winding down after the long
day. A good night’s sleep helps your child’s brain and body recharge before the next busy day at school.
• When school starts back up, so does cold and flu season. Remind children to wash hands often and teach them to
use their “cough corners” to help prevent the spread of germs. Please review our health policy; to keep other chil-
dren from getting ill, we ask that you do not send sick children to school.
• Staying hydrated helps keep a child healthy. Please send in a sippy cup/water bottle for older children so they can
have drinks throughout the day.
• Help your child be safe at drop off and pick up times at school. Children should not run ahead of adults in the park-
ing lot and children must be supervised AT ALL TIMES in the building, so when bringing your child or picking your
child up, make sure to keep your child at your side until you are at the classroom/car.
• Thank you Miss Jess for taking over as director and rock-
ing it! We are all so lucky to have you and look forward
to the new year and changes it will bring!
• Thank you to ALL the staff for working so hard together
to get ready for the new school year!!
• Thanks Miss Bethany for working some extra days to
help us out!!
• Very excited for Miss Amy and Miss Madyson for both
stepping into new roles in the Elephant room.
• Thank you to Mr. Tim for helping out in the Lion Cub
room so Miss Mackenzie can enjoy time with her little
one.
• Thank you to Miss Diane for picking up and learning
some new duties in the front office.
Hello Families!
By now everyone should have received new enrollment packets for
the 2016—2017 school year. Please have these turned in to the front
office by Friday, September 9. You have 30 days to turn in your child’s
health assessment. If you have an upcoming appointment for your
child, just let the office know.
Miss Diane in the front office will now be handling all CDC billing going
forward. If you have any questions regarding your financial contract
or billing, please feel free to stop by the office or email her at
We are currently working on setting up a new system calling “Tuition
Express.” This system will give you five different options to make a
payment on your account. More information will be coming home
soon!
Just a reminder all “vacation days” renew at the start of this school
year.
During this month we will be sending home staff welcome packets. This will give you a little more information on each
staff member and which staff are in each room.
Below is a list of staff who will be out during the month of September:
♦ September 1: Miss Amy and Miss Brittany Out
♦ September 8 & 9: Miss Danielle Out (Giraffe)
♦ September 12&13: Miss Brittany Out (Giraffe)
♦ September 30: Miss Diane Out (Office)
