Chang’e-1 ends mission with planned crash
China's first lunar probe, Chang'e-1, has ended its 16-month mission with a planned crash into the moon. Named after a moon goddess, the Chang'e-1 orbited the moon thousands of times to map its surface. It marks the completion of the first step in China's three-stage lunar program. Chang'e-1 relayed real-time pictures back to the ground during its crash. Engineers controlled the process from two stations in eastern and northwestern China. The lunar probe succeeded in hitting the designated area on Sunday afternoon.
The crash practice is common among countries that are capable of launching lunar probes. Scientists hope they can get hold of useful research data with the "final hit" supported by the probe's remaining power.
"If we did not have Chang'e-1 crash, it would end up falling on the moon as a result of its gravitational field. By that time, the lunar probe would be out of our control, and could not be located. In other words, it would be totally useless." Chang'e-1 was sent into space in October 2007. Its mission was to survey the entire surface of the moon. One month later, it sent the first full map of the moon's surface back to China. During its orbit, Chang'e-1 had a dozen performance tests to check its adjustment capacities.
The planned crash was designed to gather data useful for follow-up missions. "The probe rammed into the designated area at the appointed time. It has laid a foundation for our second step - a soft landing." The chief designer revealed that projects concerning the second step have been set in place. The landing device and rover technology form key parts. If things go well, the landing is expected to take place in five years' time. During the third step, another rover will land on the moon and bring back mineral samples for scientific research.

Chang'e-1 was launched into the space on Oct. 24, 2007, and send
the first full map of the moon’s surface back to China one month late.
Dozens of performance tests were carried out while Chang'e-1 was in
orbit to find its orbit adjustment capability. Chang'e-1 began to reduce
its speed at 3:36 pm before ended its 16 month mission with two

I always wanted to turn a great scientist. I had these dreams of discover
a new drug that would save the life of hundreds of people. Unfortunate,
I was never very good at chemistry at school and the teacher used to
getting very cross with me. After a while, I decided I would become an
inventor and designed an amazed new product which would become a
household name but my parents tell me to be a little more realistic. A
few weeks later, I had a brilliant idea for a pen that would write upside
down. In my disappointment, a friend of me pointed out that it was not
a new discovery.
A public competition is held last year in a small town in Scotland
to find out who could eat most in the shortest time. At last, a man
succeeded setting a new record. In the time given by the judges
he ate a big bowl of fishes, soup, and a whole chicken cooked by
different ways with ten big pieces of bread and a large cake. On
top of all this, he had ten glasses of beer. Before winning the
competition the new champion went home with two of her friends.
As they were coming near his house, he sudden stopped and
said: “My friends, please don’t tell my wife anything about the
competition today, and she won’t give me something to eat.”
