in energy efficient equipment including

The Department of Community and Economic Development recently appointed Mary Resides Economic Development As-sistant to be Keystone Innovation Zone (KIZ) Coordinator for the I-99 Innovation Corridor KIZ which includes Blair Bedford and Centre Counties in Pennsylvania

As Coordinator one of Maryrsquos main responsibilities will be the administration of the KIZ Tax Credit Program an incentive program providing tax credits to for-profit companies less than eight years old operating in specifically targets industries with-in the boundaries of a Keystone Innovation Zone With a total pool of up to $25 million in tax credits available to KIZ compa-nies annually the Tax Credit Program significantly contributes to the ability of young KIZ companies to transition through the early stages of growth KIZ Tax Credits are limited to $100000 annually per KIZ eligible company and must be used within five years toward their tax liability or sold to other companies to generate revenue

ldquoThe Keystone Innovation Zones across the state continue to provide much needed and well-deserved benefits to young growing companies creating family-sustaining jobs in the Commonwealthrdquo Mary said ldquoThis program provides compa-nies the ability to reduce their tax liability or in many cases generate substantial revenue from their sale which provides a great impact on their businesses Irsquom pleased and excited to participate as the Coordinator and look forward to assisting with this valuable programrdquo

Ben Franklin TechCelerator Announces Winner of $10000

Two months ago the Ben Franklin TechCeleratorState Col-lege announced it was looking for the best and brightest en-trepreneurs from Centre Blair Mifflin and Clearfield counties to fill six seats in an Eight-Week Boot Camp Training Program for business startups

To be eligible to win $10000 toward starting a business appli-cants had to have a tech-based idea and a time commitment of at least 90 minutes per week on eight successive Tuesdays beginning in April 2012 The response was overwhelming

On June 19 2012 all six contestants made presentations to a panel of judges comprised of entrepreneurs and CEOrsquos from successful local companies including Dean Bunnell ndash In-digo Biosciences Erik Davidson - Buzby Networks Allan Darr - ProAct Ltd and Todd Erdley - Videon Central

The winners were Lin Wang CEO and Dr Tony Jun Huang CTO of Ascent Bio-Nano Technologies LLC (wwwAscent-BioNanocom) The company whose technology has been featured in a variety of prominent publications such as Sci-ence Daily Advanced Materials and the Journal of Physical Chemistry has developed a chip that can produce three-di-mensional focusing of a stream of cells ndash making it possible for inexpensive portable devices to rapidly screen cells for diseases such as leukemia or HIV

To date the CEO Lin Wang who holds Masterrsquos Degrees from Duke and Harvard University and Dr Huang who is currently an Associate Professor at Penn State University have filed for seven US patents and have been awarded two invention disclosures With plans to apply for a Federal Small Business Innovation Research Grant (SBIR) the partners have garnered significant interest from two well-known industry leaders regarding possible business collaborations

The Department of Community and Economic Development recently appointed Mary Resides Economic Development As-sistant to be Keystone Innovation Zone (KIZ) Coordinator for the I-99 Innovation Corridor KIZ which includes Blair Bedford and Centre Counties in Pennsylvania

As Coordinator one of Maryrsquos main responsibilities will be the administration of the KIZ Tax Credit Program an incentive program providing tax credits to for-profit companies less than eight years old operating in specifically targets industries with-in the boundaries of a Keystone Innovation Zone With a total pool of up to $25 million in tax credits available to KIZ compa-nies annually the Tax Credit Program significantly contributes to the ability of young KIZ companies to transition through the early stages of growth KIZ Tax Credits are limited to $100000 annually per KIZ eligible company and must be used within five years toward their tax liability or sold to other companies to generate revenue

ldquoThe Keystone Innovation Zones across the state continue to provide much needed and well-deserved benefits to young growing companies creating family-sustaining jobs in the Commonwealthrdquo Mary said ldquoThis program provides compa-nies the ability to reduce their tax liability or in many cases generate substantial revenue from their sale which provides a great impact on their businesses Irsquom pleased and excited to participate as the Coordinator and look forward to assisting with this valuable programrdquo

Ben Franklin TechCelerator Announces Winner of $10000

Two months ago the Ben Franklin TechCeleratorState Col-lege announced it was looking for the best and brightest en-trepreneurs from Centre Blair Mifflin and Clearfield counties to fill six seats in an Eight-Week Boot Camp Training Program for business startups

To be eligible to win $10000 toward starting a business appli-cants had to have a tech-based idea and a time commitment of at least 90 minutes per week on eight successive Tuesdays beginning in April 2012 The response was overwhelming

On June 19 2012 all six contestants made presentations to a panel of judges comprised of entrepreneurs and CEOrsquos from successful local companies including Dean Bunnell ndash In-digo Biosciences Erik Davidson - Buzby Networks Allan Darr - ProAct Ltd and Todd Erdley - Videon Central

The winners were Lin Wang CEO and Dr Tony Jun Huang CTO of Ascent Bio-Nano Technologies LLC (wwwAscent-BioNanocom) The company whose technology has been featured in a variety of prominent publications such as Sci-ence Daily Advanced Materials and the Journal of Physical Chemistry has developed a chip that can produce three-di-mensional focusing of a stream of cells ndash making it possible for inexpensive portable devices to rapidly screen cells for diseases such as leukemia or HIV

To date the CEO Lin Wang who holds Masterrsquos Degrees from Duke and Harvard University and Dr Huang who is currently an Associate Professor at Penn State University have filed for seven US patents and have been awarded two invention disclosures With plans to apply for a Federal Small Business Innovation Research Grant (SBIR) the partners have garnered significant interest from two well-known industry leaders regarding possible business collaborations

The Department of Community and Economic Development recently appointed Mary Resides Economic Development As-sistant to be Keystone Innovation Zone (KIZ) Coordinator for the I-99 Innovation Corridor KIZ which includes Blair Bedford and Centre Counties in Pennsylvania

As Coordinator one of Maryrsquos main responsibilities will be the administration of the KIZ Tax Credit Program an incentive program providing tax credits to for-profit companies less than eight years old operating in specifically targets industries with-in the boundaries of a Keystone Innovation Zone With a total pool of up to $25 million in tax credits available to KIZ compa-nies annually the Tax Credit Program significantly contributes to the ability of young KIZ companies to transition through the early stages of growth KIZ Tax Credits are limited to $100000 annually per KIZ eligible company and must be used within five years toward their tax liability or sold to other companies to generate revenue

Two months ago the Ben Franklin TechCeleratorState Col-lege announced it was looking for the best and brightest en-trepreneurs from Centre Blair Mifflin and Clearfield counties to fill six seats in an Eight-Week Boot Camp Training Program for business startups

To be eligible to win $10000 toward starting a business appli-cants had to have a tech-based idea and a time commitment of at least 90 minutes per week on eight successive Tuesdays beginning in April 2012 The response was overwhelming

On June 19 2012 all six contestants made presentations to a panel of judges comprised of entrepreneurs and CEOrsquos from successful local companies including Dean Bunnell ndash In-digo Biosciences Erik Davidson - Buzby Networks Allan Darr - ProAct Ltd and Todd Erdley - Videon Central

The winners were Lin Wang CEO and Dr Tony Jun Huang CTO of Ascent Bio-Nano Technologies LLC (wwwAscent-BioNanocom) The company whose technology has been featured in a variety of prominent publications such as Sci-ence Daily Advanced Materials and the Journal of Physical Chemistry has developed a chip that can produce three-di-mensional focusing of a stream of cells ndash making it possible for inexpensive portable devices to rapidly screen cells for diseases such as leukemia or HIV

To date the CEO Lin Wang who holds Masterrsquos Degrees from Duke and Harvard University and Dr Huang who is currently an Associate Professor at Penn State University have filed for seven US patents and have been awarded two invention disclosures With plans to apply for a Federal Small Business Innovation Research Grant (SBIR) the partners have garnered significant interest from two well-known industry leaders regarding possible business collaborations
