Common House, centrally located steps from Charlottesville's Downtown Mall, is the city's Social Club for the creative community.
Vinegar Hall is our public space for private events, and it comprises much of the first floor of this building, which was first constructed as a social club in 1913 for the Vinegar Hill neighborhood. For over 50 years, it served as the hub of the community because it was the host of celebrations, along with noted musicians like Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett and James Brown and many others.
We have labored with love and the skill of many to restore this space to its rightful, festive, place. And we are honored to now be able to offer it to you.

The toast of historic downtown, Vinegar Hall comfortably accommodates 88 guests for a seated service to celebrate your rehearsal dinner, wedding, reunion, corporate event or extemporaneous celebration.

Vinegar Hall North provides the same spectacular experience as the full space, in a smaller package. Our retractable soundproof wall divides our downstairs for ultimate privacy and modularity to accommodate your less massive magnificent occasion.
