Start your reading for this course with:
The making of the modern refugee - Peter Gatrell, Oxford University Press, 2013Book | Essential
This recent survey covers the whole period we'll be looking at, and beyond, in globalperspective. It's very good, and has useful discussions of further readings too. It's availableas an e-book through the university library, and if you want your own copy it's just comeout in paperback at under £20. Doesn't seem to be on Kindle yet though.
An important older text that is more focused on Europe is:
The unwanted: European refugees from the First World War through the Cold War -Michael R. Marrus, 2002
Book | Essential
Some of the library's copies are the first edition (Oxford, 1985), with a slightly differentsubtitle; this will also do:
The unwanted: European refugees in the twentieth century - Michael R. Marrus, 1985Book
Complementing it, since we're looking beyond Europe too, is:
Displacement and dispossession in the modern Middle East - Dawn Chatty, 2010

05/20/18 Century of the refugee: refugees & statelessness in the long twentieth
