This recent survey covers the whole period we'll be looking at, and beyond, in globalperspective. It's very good, and has useful discussions of further readings too. It's availableas an e-book through the university library, and if you want your own copy it's just comeout in paperback at under £20. Doesn't seem to be on Kindle yet though.
