Essentials of Absolute Block Working

For Single line provided with MACLS• Line Clear has been received from the

Block Station in advance• The line is clear of trains running in

the same direction, up to the first stop signal and an adequate distance beyond it

• The line is clear of trains running in the opposite direction

• The adequate distance shall not be less than 180 meters in MACLS

Page 17: Centralised Traffic Control Working On Dhamra line of ECoR P. Venkata Ramana, Senior Professor (Signal) Indian Railway Institute of Signal Engg & Telecommunication,

Special Requirements - Indications

• LINE CLOSED– At both the stations– When the instruments are normal and there is no train in

the block section

• TRAIN COMING FROM– At the receiving station– When Line Clear for a train to leave the Block station in

rear has been given

• TRAIN GOING TO– At the sending station– When Line Clear for a train to leave a Block station has

been received from the Block station ahead

• TRAIN ON LINE– At both the stations– For Token less Block Instruments

Page 18: Centralised Traffic Control Working On Dhamra line of ECoR P. Venkata Ramana, Senior Professor (Signal) Indian Railway Institute of Signal Engg & Telecommunication,

Special Requirements – Push Button

• TRAIN GOING TO & COMING FROM– Button for TRAIN GOING TO– Co-operation of the Station Masters be

dispensed with

• TRAIN ON LINE be automatic• LINE CLOSED– Button for LINE CLOSED– Can be dispensed with where an

automatic device of closing the Block section is provided

BLOCK WORKING IMPLEMENTATION

• Block Control Chart• Application Data design & Logic

Page 27: Centralised Traffic Control Working On Dhamra line of ECoR P. Venkata Ramana, Senior Professor (Signal) Indian Railway Institute of Signal Engg & Telecommunication,

CONCLUSION

• Showcase – Integration of Absolute Block Working with

Interlocking Controllers at Wayside stations– Centralized Remote Operation

• Traffic operations are found to be economical & efficient– Less manpower & NMS– Throughput, Fleet mode

• Marginal cost - next phase of expansion– 30MTPA freight traffic – Current Year– 57MTPA freight traffic – Year 2020

Page 28: Centralised Traffic Control Working On Dhamra line of ECoR P. Venkata Ramana, Senior Professor (Signal) Indian Railway Institute of Signal Engg & Telecommunication,

WAY AHEAD

• 15% Electronic Interlocking Systems in IR (880/5944 block stations)

• Multiple Vendors– Requirement for Networking Standards

for interoperability for Centralised Monitoring & Opeartion
