A combination of Mothers Day and inclement weather on Sunday meant crowds were down significantly across all grounds. However, the football proved most interesting with all first grade matches going down to the wire. Congratulations to our Ladies League Tag Representative side which travelled to Maitland last Saturday where they recorded a convincing win over CRL Newcastle by 20 – 6 in a match where the “locals” did not concede a single penalty. Well done girls. Once again our Leagues Club backed sides are starting to dominate our competition with Wyong, The Entrance and Erina opening up a 40 point gap over the opponents in the Club Championship. I am sure our competition would be more attractive to both spectators and sponsors with a more even playing field. Best of luck to all team this weekend. Regards,

Fred HartupPresident CCDRL

WOY WOY ROOSTERS PLAYER PROFILENOT SUBMITTED

PLAYER’S PROFILE Roosters

Toukley Hawks Coming up against the premiers was going to be a tough game, with the weather also proving difficult, we didn’t start how we would have liked resulting in Terrigal going over the line twice within the first 10 minutes. Grinding our way back and scoring just before half time, giving us a chance in the sec-ond half. We fought back to being 6 points behind 20 to 14. Leveling the score at 20 all and missing some field goals, with both sides struggling to hold the ball the game concluded with a score of 20 all. There is still a lot of work to improve from Toukley but we are still displaying signs of ef-fort and we will not to give up. Points this week went to Connor O’Beirne receiving 1 point, Kene Te Whata with the 2 points and Josh Veacock getting the well deserved 3 points. A joint player’s player going to Josh Veacock and Jakob Giles. Finally an away game, we are off to Woy Woy, hope to see all our Hawks supporters there! Congratulations to Kallin And Brooke on the arrival of their beautiful son, Parker Mitchell Adams this week. After a disruptive week and with seven players out from the previous week we put in a solid performance but were not good enough in the end going down 26 to 12. Huge efforts from Taj Kennedy, Kyle Capper, Mason Craig and Liam Patterson all backing up from the under 19’s and showing that they are very capable of playing grade football. Player’s player and the 3 points went to Taj Kennedy, Kyle Capper taking the 2 points and Henry Devlin receiving the 1 point.Opens vs Terrigal lost 30-10What can I say the it was there to be won by both teams, unfortunately they up trumps. Credit to all my boys, we did not give in as they kept coming at us.Big game this week, rip in boys! The Poppi Concreting U/19’s are still yet to get a result following a 36-16 loss to the Terrigal Sharks. I cannot knock the boys too much as they are still developing as a squad and getting to know each other. If they can play for a full game instead of 20-25 minutes each week then we will see the best of this team. We are still relying on others to do the work and making too many errors which is affecting our ability to secure a win. It is tough each week to give everyone a run but we need people to step up and force their way into the side. We have tough few weeks on the road so let’s hope the boys also step up. Best for the Hawks was Jye Tude-hope (Players Player), Taj Kennedy (who also received Players Player in Reserve Grade) and Zac Hayward who had his best running game of the season. Thanks again to our sponsors; Poppi Concreting, Redmen Fire Protection & Bruce The Plumber for your ongoing supportThis week the hawk’s ladies came up against a red hot Terrigal side and we were well beaten. It was a shame that we didn’t play our best footy but they are a great side and I’m hoping we picked up a few things from this game. Best players were Georgia, Tegan and Gemma. Players player was a tie between Georgia and Gemma. It is with much regret that our club lost a mother who has been heavily involved in the club for many years. Lesley (O’Beirne) Crawley passed away this week following a long battle with cancer. Both Ryan & Connor O’Beirne played right throughout the juniors with Connor currently playing 1st Grade for the Hawks. Their father (Mark O’Beirne) also played 1st Grade in the 80’s & 90’s for the Hawks and is part of the Toukley ‘Old Boys’ Club. This is a sad loss and we speak on behalf of all the Hawks family by passing on our condo-lences to O’Beirne/Crawley families. RIP LesleyWe would also like to thank and acknowledge some more sponsors this weekScott Pearson, Pizza Inn Charmhaven, GO Electrical, GMS Legal, Ari-zona Smash Repairs, Swimart Charmhaven,Bruce The Plumber, Rod Thomas, Compass Sheds, Madhouse Beef Jerkey, Rapid Clean, Win-dows and More Australia, King of the Road Truck Wash,Heartsand Minds Barber and Summerland Automotive.

Roosters News Welcome to Woy Woy Oval on this beautiful crisp Sunday morning for Round 7 of the Central Coast Division Rugby League competition with the Roosters taking on Toukley Hawks in what should be a good day of footy. We hope it is an enjoyable day for both clubs supportersThanks to all supporters who travelled to Bateau Bay for our games against The Entrance on Mothers Day last Sunday.Unfortunately it wasn’t a happy day for the Roosters mum’s with us walking away with 5 losses. It’s no secret or excuse that we are doing it tough with injuries and late withdrawals but we’ll tough it out and turn around some of the early results, good teams and clubs always do. Tigers News First Grade Report: The Central Coast Cleaning Contractors First Grade Tigers: It looked like it was going to be an ugly day for Rugby League given the ordinary forecast, however the skies were fairly kind to us and there was plenty of Football played. Considering we were running into a strong headwind during the first half we set the game up well, going out to a 10-nil lead. The visitors were gallant though and levelled the score at 10 all before a try for the tigers made the half time score 16-10. We started well again in the second stanza pulling away to a 26-10 score line and looked like we were going to go on with it. But with rain starting to fall and a determined opposition we let in a couple of late tries to bring the scores back closer together. In the end it was a good win although improvement in some areas will be needed over the coming weeks.Reserve Grade Report: The GTL Rapid Clean Reserve Grade Tigers defeated Woy Woy 48-0. The match was a stop/start affair with some good passing and support play providing try scoring opportunities. Leading 22-0 at the break, the defence was strong and the try scoring continued in the second half. A good team performance from the boys in very windy conditions. We look forward to testing ourselves against Erina today.Open Age Report:The MJM Kitchens & Stone Open Age Tigers, came up against an in-formed Woy Woy side. Our boys got off to a good start scoring early in the half. The rest of the game was a real arm wrestle with tigers run-ning out winners 24-12. Best were James Nixon, Jarrod Black and Mitch Green. Under 19’s Report:The Coca Cola Amatil Tigers Under 19’s Tigers started the match against Woy Woy in a blaze of glory. Early tries to tyro Jack Smith (2) and try scoring machine, Josh Martin with 2 conversions by Jackson Greaves helping us to an early 16 nil lead before our opponents commenced a mini fight back where we both swapped tries with tough tackling Tyler Scrine scoring near the break which was converted by Jackson Greaves for a 22 – 4 half time lead. The second half started with the Tigers show-ing scant regard for the football or their opposition in an ill disciplined showing allowing Woy Woy to fight their way back into the match with 2 tries of their own. We finished the match with a Darren Grech “special”, converted by Reagan Harris to run out victors 28 – 14. Best players for the Tigers were players player Josh Martin, ever reliable Kyle McCudden, Tyler “the terror” Scrine and the ever improving Jack Smith.League Tag Report:The Pallisters Ladies League Tag Tigers were outstanding in their per-formance against Woy Woy, running out winners 54-0. After a couple of early mistakes and some strong defence from the Roosters, things started to kick into gear for the Tigers resulting in a 18-0 half time lead. In the second half, the attack was impressive from the Tigers and the end result reflected the effort the squad has put in over the past few weeks at training. Credit does not go to any single player this week as this win was truly an effort that saw everyone who took the field, contributed and put their stamp on the game.

Eagles News After match presentations are held after every home game commencing 5.30pm. Golden Eagles Reunion is now on 17 June vs Ourimbah at Erina Oval. From next week we have 7 home games in a row and are calling on all supporters to get behind the Eagles.Any volunteers who would like to help out on game day please contact one of the committee members or email your interest to [email protected] grade – last week first grade played their best game for the year giving the undefeated Wyong side a good test. The effort from all players was outstanding and Danny Lawrence played his 100th first grade game in style picking up play-ers player and 3 points. We welcomed back Alan Munro who returned to the field putting in a great performance. 2 points to Nathan Deane and 1 point each to Brad Bennett and Mark Byrne.Open grade – the Eagles continued their great start to the year with a convincing win over the Roo’s 46-12! In what was probably their best performance in 2018, the boys kept their foot on the throat the entire match. It’s difficult to single out players when everyone contributed but Players Player and 3 points went to Matt Downey, Redhead 2 and Luke Goodley 1 point. Early talk of a nudey run for Kurt proved premature after he scored 2 tries and Naif “Ado Carr“ scored his 2nd double of the year! Go “The Fox“. Sean Frazer had his best game of the year scoring a try under the sticks untouched (as he often is!) Captain McGee is approaching his best form, as are forwards Jimmy, Oakesy and Toddy!!! Go the boys.Under 19s – close game of footy last weekend in the balance till final minutes .Both sides started well as first half progressed we made things more difficult on our-selves as we turned over to much ball with a 54% completion rate for the first half defence for us was a priority. To the teams credit they stayed in the contest going in at half time 12 all. Second half we improved and lessened mistakes only to have penalties go against us 8-3 so again we needed to defend multiple sets. Game was in the balance till the final moments down to eleven players for some of that period, we just ran out of bodies in the end. Great effort by everyone, points to Toby, Scotty and Dane. Thank you to all supporters for being at our first home game. Today another tough game against The Entrance. Great to see Jesse back from hospital all stitched up after a serious cut to his eye.Ladies league tag – a great game between two very even teams. Both sides had some great attacking footy which was met with some desperate defence. The game went to the break locked at 6 all. But with Madi Crowe sin binned right on half time the game should have swung in Wyong’s favour but after the break our girls dug deep and defended their line strongly not letting Wyong to cross the line. The game was decided in the last minute when Madi scored a try to seal the match and make up for her sin binning. Best for Erina were Ash Russell who is getting back to her best with some great running in attack. Stacey Markham who is super at fullback in both attack and defence and Katie Richter who always does a heap of work in the middle. Best for Wyong were Gabrielle Keevil, Tylah Valance and Emma Frost in a great match by both sides.Like us on Facebook - facebook.com/erinaleaguesclubFollow us on Instagram @elc_erinaleaguesclub FREE TRIBUTE BAND NIGHTS @ ELC – 8PM till LATESat May 19 KISSteria & Poison Tribute Show Double HeaderSat Jun 2 Midnight Oil Tribute Show – Oils Ain OilsSat Jun 23 Pearl Jam & Powderfinger Double HeaderSat Jul 7 AC/DC + The Angels Tribute Double HeaderSat Jul 21 Rod Stewart & The Best of Britain ShowSat Aug 11 INXS Tribute Show – Live Baby Live

Bears News We had our second win for the year after taking on a very determined Northern Lakes team. Our attack in the first half was dismal but after a stern half time chat the boys came out and showed some good attacking moments. Our defensive once again was impressive and something the boys should be proud of. Final Score 26 to nil.3 Points went to our Captain Durbo who was returning after a nasty head knock and lead the boys around the park well. 2 Points went to Dale who is loving the No 6 on his back and 1 Point went to Boydy who worked hard in defence and found some metres out wide. Players Player went to one of our new boys Higgo who crossed over for two classy tries. Coaches Award was split between Christian who once again topped the tackle count and Hodgey who continues to impress in the centres.Thank you to all our loyal supporters who braved the cold and our little U8s who enjoyed a game at half time and lapped up the atmosphere in the sheds with the big Bears.

St Edwards Open Grade are proudly Sponsored by Terrigal Constructions, Gosford Sailing Club

and White Dickson Architects.

Storm News Our men in purple pocketed a further two competition points last weekend; continuing their white hot form of late to brush past the tepid challenge of a bye round with commodious ease. While never wishing to be sprung blowing one’s own trumpet; it’s nevertheless fair to point out that we have been the gun team of May and are quite literally racing up the Open Grade charts, moving from 9th to 7th with a bullet. Today sees us line up against perennial grand finalists, the St Edwards Bears who have also been in good form and a cracking encounter will doubtlessly ensue. Interest is at a fever pitch for this one folks and punters should be warned that parking in and around Berkeley Vale Oval will be at a premium. I’d advise all Gosford, St Eddies, and rugby league fans in general to eat an early breakfast, preferably high in fibre, before heading directly to the ground to guarantee your place, perched comfortably on the BV hill from the get go. Carn Gossy! (- The Eye -).

What is volunteering?

Probably the most important concept club Presidents, committee members and leaders need to understand is, what is volunteering?

A very simple question but the ramifications are massive for club because without question, after years of working with all types of clubs around every part of Australia, in-cluding remote, outback, rural and metropolitan regions the one characteristic that all successful clubs have is a culture of volunteering.

Clubs who have created a culture of volunteering, year on year are much more likely to be successful, achieve their goals, be more fun and enjoyable to be apart of, have more social benefits and above all have a strong sense of belonging between the club and its participants.

Traditionally, we have thought of volunteering as being on the committee or undertaking a role around the club, such as team manager, coaching, canteen manager or other similar traditional volunteering roles.

But here at Sports Community our definition is:

“Any unpaid contribution of a person or group of people

that contributes to achieving club objectives”

Seems a relatively simple definition but potentially forces a rethink for clubs on what volunteering is.

Consider these scenarios:

• Is a parent driving their children to training volunteering?

• Is a player inviting their partner and their best friends to the mid season ball volunteering?

• Is bringing a friend to the club as player or supporter volunteering?

• Is encouraging your friends and family to come and watch you play at the club volunteering?

• Is selling raffle tickets or a box of chocolates to work colleagues volunteering?

In our training sessions there is always considerable de-bate about what is volunteering, especially driving chil-dren to training but without doubt all are examples of people contributing to the goals of the club without pay-ment so are in fact volunteering.

If you can create a culture of volunteering at your club then it will spread the workload and increase massively your club’s capacity to achieve its goals over a sustained period of time, on and off the sporting arena.

The Roos needed to find something against Wentworthville to turn their season around. Perhaps the venue (Leichhardt Oval) or the fact the match was broadcast live on Chan-nel 9 may have been the catalyst. Wyong started the match playing fast, varying the points of attack and looking fluent. Sitili Tupouniua split the Wenty defence in the fifth minute, galloped into open space and found Luke Sharpe on his inside to score. Josh Mantellato converted for a 6-0 lead. The Roos were throwing good shapes at the opposition and repeatedly getting to the outside of the Magpies defensive line. Right wing Matt Ikuvalu crossed shortly afterwards only for play to be recalled by Referee Furner for a forward pass. Ikuvalu stepped his way through the Wentworthville ruck and into fresh air in the 16th minute. As the cover closed, Ikuvalu offloaded to Sharpe who was leading a footrace to the corner. The Wyong fullback doubted his ability to get to the line, swerved and lost his footing. The Roos went right and then left, creating an overlap for Mantellato to easily touch down in the north west corner. Mantellato failed to convert his try. Wyong 10-0. The Roos became nervous and began second guessing themselves instead of continu-ing with the things that had been effective. The Magpies scored two converted tries to jump to a 12-10 lead and ex-acerbate the doubt which had already crept into the Roos psyche. Ben Thomas produced a hit and spin to score for the green and gold. Mantellato converted and with 7 mins to halftime Wyong led 16-12. Arana Tamata produced a well-timed face ball to put Rogers over, and with the conversion Wenty regained the lead 18-16 just on the break. Only 6 minutes into the second period the Magpies extended the lead to 22-16, Davis scoring a 70m try from a charge down. Davis kicked a penalty goal to make it 24-16. Josh Hoff-man was first to an ingoal grubber in the 55th minute to put the result beyond doubt. Tupouniua again burst through the Magpies right edge, this time finding Paul Momirovski on his inside. Mantellato converted narrowing the scoreline to 30-22. However, Wenty was not finished, Jaemon Salmon burrowing over from acting half for his third try and capping a best on ground performance. Davis converted for the final 36-22 scoreline. The Roos are now at the bottom of the table and in need of a dramatic form reversal.

LAdIes LeAGue TAG neWsLast weekend Wyong showed they can challenge the top clubs when they put on a great game against Erina with the Eagles only getting away with the win on the bell. Competition leaders The Entrance didn’t leave anything in the tank beating Woy Woy 54-0 with Solest Montgomery scoring two tries and being strong in defence. Berkeley Vale and Kincumber had a close game with Ranni Jackson scoring the Colts two tries to win 8-2. This week sees first v second with the Tigers and the Eagles battling it out in what will be the match of the round in LLT.

Important information about winning sports grants

What is a grant?

“A grant is where a sum of money is given by an organisation to another for a specific purpose.”

The key piece of wording here is the grant is provided for a spe-cific purpose. A common mistake clubs make when applying for grants is that their application does not fit the purpose of the grant so it becomes automatically ineligible. It is really important that you and your club take the time to understand what the grant provider is trying to achieve and then tailor your application to meet their needs.

Why are grants offered?Organisations will offer grants for many reasons. The most obvious reasons will relate specifically to sport and include:• Club development, leadership and governance training and development• Uniforms• Travel for competitions• Facility Improvement• Increasing participationSports clubs are also able to apply for grants which may not seem to have a direct link to sport but with a bit of creative thinking clubs can successfully apply for grants that seek to:,• Increase community development• Inclusion of minority groups such as people with a disability or CaLD groups• Economic development – these are great grants if you are considering running a major event that will benefit the wider community• Development of community facilities and infrastructureIf your club has a need then they will almost certainly need a grant. One thing to keep in mind though is that grants are generally only open for a short period each year. It is absolutely crucial to al-locate a person in your club who has the specific responsibility of monitoring grants and ensuring you don’t miss out on applying for grants that are suitable for your club. The best way to do this is to register for the Sports Community newsletter which lists currently open grants.

Finding the right grantYou’ve come to the right place for grants listings! Each week we comb our library of more than 100 grant providers around the country to see what grants are open, and we list all these under the grants tabWe endeavour to list grants from all grant providers but with more than 500 local councils in Australia so we simply don’t have the resources to cover them all, so when looking for a grant check with your local council as well as the Sports Community grant list-ing and email newsletters.

Grants can be very competitiveMany grants go unallocated because of a lack of applicants. However, many grants are highly sought after. It is also not uncommon for the larger grants to have hundreds or even thousands of grant applications so sometimes, no matter how good your application is, you may not be successful. For example, in its first year the Australian Sports Foundation’s Giv-ing4GrassRoots grant had more than 900 applications but only gave out 34 grants, so there were a lot of good applications that missed out.So, while understanding that grants are highly competitive, the challenge is to give you and your club the best opportunity while minimising the time and most importantly the stress involved in creating your grant application. You will quickly see the actual completion of the grant applica-tion doesn’t take that long, more time is often taken collating sup-porting material. Once you have everything together the first time it becomes a lot easier after that to submit grant applications. The more grant applications your club makes the better it will become.

Last Saturday our Ladies League Tag side travelled to Maitland to take on the CRL Newcastle Ladies League Tag team. The venue, home of the Maitland Pickers, has just been redeveloped and is now one of the best football facilities outside the Sydney Metropolitan area. Congratulations to those involved in the project. It is a pity that Central Coast Council could not learn something from our Northern neighbours. Our girls were clearly the better side on the day and run out convincing winners by 20 to 6. Best for the Coast were Stacey Markham (Erina), Sian George (The Entrance)Kristen Kessler (The Entrance) On Saturday 19th May 2018, the girls travelled to Sawtell to take on the Greater Northern Tigers in the Semi Finals of the Country Championships. A report on the game will appear in next week’s edition.

Magpies News Duncan Excavations Reserve Grade Team Report - The Ourimbah Magpies 2nd grade side al-though we felt we dominated for much of the game we found we have to play for the full 70min to come away with a win. 1st Grade – Proudly sponsored by Toowoon Bay Carpets & ShuttersWelcomed back Lincoln Tubridy from injury, along with Jacob Kernick in starting team, we got off to a good start with Try to Nathan Chaplin who convert goal, we then let Kincumber back in game going to Half time leading from another goal to Nuff 8 to 6. A penalty to Kincumber had scores level at 8 all up until last minute when Kincumber scored to win. We where unlucky with some of decisions in game, our best player was Jay Jones closely followed by Nathan Chaplin, Pat Murphy and ever green Steve Lyons.2nd Grade – Proudly sponsored by Berkeley Vale Cellars.Great WIN 28-24 after a wonderful start we played better for longer periods and finally got the results we’ve been so close to. Matt Bailey got another double and was great Dylan Smith was our best with players player and the 3 points,2 to Jason Little and 1 to James Weldon on debut. Kye and Jayden were good, and Josh Selmes was also good on debut let’s all get to training and keep it going we have players coming back from injury, so everyone needs to be at training and working on our game. The presentation will be at Chittaway Tavern this week for those peo-ple that have trouble finding it.Ladies League TagThe girls took on Kincumber and just did not play well enough as a team to win. Our attack is not as good as it could be, so we need to fix that. Jessie, Drew, Sharni and Breah were strong in the middle with Orana and Chloe having an impact, Caitlin and Ash were best at the back. Sharni did exactly what she was told and took an easy 2 points from a penalty. Players player went to Orana with an outstanding defensive effort and also in attack. Points went to Orana, Breah, Caitlin, Sharni, Drew & Jessie.

Warriors News We look forward to our trip to Terrigal this Sunday to take on the Sharks. Special mention must go to our major sponsor the Doylo. Don’t forget our after match presentation each week in the Smokehouse. It is 10 years since our club won our first 2nd grade competition versus the Entrance so it is time we get together to celebrate this great occasion. More details about the arrangements in the coming weeks.Ladies Report:The girls continue to roll on being unbeaten in the past 4 weeks. The girls posted points early and to Ourimbah’s credit they remained in the contest for most of the game. In the second half the girls remained focused and finally came out victorious. The girls have a very challenging 3 games ahead of them, but confidence and self belief are a wonderful thing to have coming into the big games ahead. Thanks to Ant and Lyn who are very committed to managing and coaching the girls on and off the field. This all contributes well to the positive results the girls are achieving.3rd Grade ReportThe boys put in a very spirited first half performance against their more fancied St Edward’s opponents. The boys continue to get into games but lack the self belief and discipline to go on with their performances.persist-ence and backing each other for the whole game will see improvement. 2nd Grade ReportThe Warriors reserve grade have grown in confidence and consistency and have strung 2 wins and a draw in their last 3 games. In cold and blustery conditions the boys found themselves down by 8 points at half time. But the never say die attitude and commitment to each other and the game plan saw the boys grind out an 18 points to 12 victory outscor-ing Ourimbah by 4 tries to 2. Congrats to Quinny on his hat trick of tries. Deano had a solid performance in his first game in 18 months. He was very well supported by Quinny, Badge and Tom.

Our proud sponsors are: Major Club Sponsor: The Doylo

Other main sponsors include: The Bowlo, Doylo Vets and Animal Hospital,

Evolution Security, Dei Corp, Royal Wolf Containers and Kennards Hire.

Your generosity is greatly appreciated and valued.

While Coach Forbes was disappointed not to get the two points it was a strong performance with nine first graders sitting on the sideline. The Terrigal-Wamberal Ladies League Tag team welcomed back last years B& F player Emily Hennessey in style and were impressive in their win over a rejuvenated Toukley side. In difficult conditions the girls through the ball around well evidenced by representa-tive winger Rach Dobbie scoring five tries. A much improved Hawks side defended well and made some impressive tags. Elysha Atkins scored two tries with Meg Hig-gins and Tyra McEwen also crossing,. Britt Starr kicked five goals. Rach D picked up both the three points and Players player award. Fullback Matead Barber continued to impress getting the two points with Rach Curnow’s defence and organisation and Shannon Higgins’ great go forward seeing them share the one point.TWS U19s had a good win in a dangerous game against an opponent who always turns up. After leading 16-0 at halftime the boys went on to win 36-16. Two late Toukley tries in the last five minutes taking the shine off a an otherwise very good performance. Three points and Players Player went to five eight Logan Humphries who scored three tries and showed class with his every involvement, the two points was shared by Tom Bateup who ran strongly again bagging a double as a reward and Nathan Hey who played his best game for the club with his determined charges. One point went to Owen Pearce who got through a mountain of work and just keeps getting better and Oliver Patterson who always gives his best. The Terrigal-Wamberal Opens side came up against a big determined Toukley side who started strongly and we trailed 10 - 4 at the halftime break. The Sharks stayed positive and played to the game plan which worked in our favour and with the wind at our backs in the second half, crossed for five tries to run out winners 30-10. All of the boys played united which made it hard to pick who gets the points this week. In saying that the Players Player went to a rampaging Daniel Gooch who made plenty of meters around the ruck, three points went to a try scoring machine Micheal Palmer who bagged a hat trick, the two points went to Tony Smith who has given our side a boost in attack as he crossed for two tries and while the one point was shared be-tween half Ethan Fortis and hooker Mitch Hall who shared steering the side around the park. Coaches Award went to a hard working Lincoln Stanley who was in the thick of the action for most of the match. The Sharks Reserve grade side recorded a 26 - 12 victory over the Hawks after lead-ing 16 - 6 at the halftime break. The Sharks started strongly and some good attack was only matched by some solid defence as the Sharks got the jump on the opposi-tion. The attack deteriorated as the match wore on with plenty of dropped ball and the Sharks were fortunate to hold on with only one player on the interchange bench for much of the second half. Best for the Sharks and Players Player was Harry King who crossed for three tries and was a danger every time he touched the ball, the two points went to Brady Kamper who orchestrated the attack, crossed for a try and was safe in defence while the one point went to Jake Treloar with another nonstop performance including scoring a try and kicking three conversions. In terrible conditions for Rugby League the Sharks 1st grade side were lucky to come away with a draw after defending their own line through compounded errors for the last 15 minutes of the match. After opening up a handy lead early the Sharks gifted the Hawks possession and let them back into the match with both teams narrowly missing field goal attempts in the dieing stages of the game. At the end of the day a draw was probably a fair indication of the game. Best for the Sharks was young gun Lachlan Bell who is maturing with every match and scored another try, the two points went to Nick Paul who got through a mountain of work while the one point went to Scott Schreiber who took on the leadership of the young forward pack and gave his all. The Players Player went to Darcy Gilchrist who got through plenty of defence and ran strongly. Hopefully we will start getting a few troops back for our next match. Colts News The Colts welcome Wyong players and families to Mackillop Oval for Round 7 in what should be some interesting clashes in all grades. Today we celebrate Family day at the footy with the girls from Rock Sloth entertaining the little ones with face painting and balloon twisting. 1st grade will be looking to back a up a win from last round and string a few good wins in a row. Reserves will bounce back i’m sure after last weeks not so great performance. 19’s are keen to get back on the field after a forfeit last week and the Tag girls look to improve each week on the nice win on Mothers Day.Premier Trade 1st GradeLast round our Premier Trade Centre Colts got out to early lead with a try to Clarky which Skittles converted from the sideline. Then a dire encounter began with the Colts completions again an issue while Berkeley although gallant not able to take advantage of it. It was a low scoring affair that stayed at 8all for the final 20 minutes before Tyson Potger set the sleeping crowd alight with an 85m gem. The cops are still on the hunt for the sniper on the grassy knoll that pinged Tubs who as always never gave up. For the 1st time this season we got through unscathed however this week are without the flying Dutchman who will be sorely missed as he undertakes surgery on his mouth which we hope will re-ignite a modelling career for him post football.Fletcher Berry had a marvellous debut coming on at 9, he played it safe in attack but is remembered for his tenacious defense, you’ll be seeing a lot more of him as the year progresses. We also had Josh French debut for the club who started strong and once a 100% fit will be show his worth to the Colts. Stand out Players Player and 3 points was Troy Woodley; as always Troy led the defence and got us go forward at every opportu-nity, 2 to Tonksy who I was very pleased with & a point shared with Bendy & Hendo. All going well we will have the opportunity to have the same halves pairing two weeks in a row in Brett & Blake. It was great to see two of our proud sponsors Mark Dixon of MD Plumbing and Steve Wylie from Golf & Leisure Tours at the ground supporting our boys.Today our match day sponsors Central Coast Plastering Service and G & W Hydraulics combine for family day as we welcome competition favourites and mates of ours Wyong to McKillop. These two business headed by Shannon Woodley and Terry Gray respec-tively have been great supporters of the senior and junior clubs for well over 20 years so please gently tip your hats to them for their efforts. Please enjoy the footy, a drink & the bbq today and see the smiling Alison in the canteen if you are interested in purchasing a 1 of the 400 tickets on sale for the Booths Motor Group 2017 Lancer on show at the groundSydney Markets Reserve GradeTough cold day at MacKillop & we just didn’t turn up. Credit to Berkeley Vale as they put in & got the two points. We struggled to complete our sets & payed the penalty. El Rozario (3) points tried hard all game & was a standout for the Colts, well deserved mate & your having a great season. (2) points went to Jaxon Stubbs who started out on the wing & finished up in the forwards & never stopped trying all game. (1) point to Tyler Durbidge who tackled everything that moved again, as normal, tried hard all game. We were all left disappointed after the loss & are looking forward to the challenge of taking on Wyong at home.Special thanks to Chuppa Chups for coming on board as a sponsor for our training staff....what a lifesaver !!Sidelines Sports & Grill 19’sThe Boys received a forfeit last round. Congratulations to Jesse Byrne & Fletcher Berry on making their 1st grade debuts over the last 2 rounds, two 18 year old juniors.G & W Hydraulics Ladies League TagHuge change for the girls from last week. A big defensive display shown by all the girls this week, with some stand out tagging by Ranni, Tayla, Millee, Teagan and Ebony. M. Leah also turned defence into attack by taking an intercept. Our attack was a lot better this week getting through our sets and good team tries. Brooke played well with some strong runs which put us in the front foot & Cassie had another strong game. A lot better this week girls, let’s keep it going.Players player - Ranni Jackson 3pts- Ranni Jackson 2pts- Tayla Mackay1pt- Teagan, Brooke, Cassie, Millee

Roos News The Roos headed to Erina for the Round 5 series of matches which saw top of the table clashes in Reserve Grade, Open Age and Under 19’s. The Eagles were always going to be up for the 1st Grade match, with Danny Lawrence celebrating 100 games, Alan Munro returning after a lay off and the squad under-per-forming in the opening five rounds. Wyong narrowly grabbed the cash in 1st Grade and Under 19’s in two high standard matches. Erina were way too good in Opens and it was pretty much one-way traffic in favour of the visitors in Reserve Grade. The Ladies was an intense game of contrasting styles with the home team extracting a last-minute win when a draw appeared inevitable. Great to see Erina Oval with a thick cover of grass. Ladies League Tag – Sponsored by Dovmac Mining & Construction Erina 12 – Wyong 6Ashlee Russell split the Roos defence in the 3rd minute and displayed good pace to get to the line. Amy Regal converted and it looked like Wyong were in for a very tough morning. However, some changes saw the visitors grow in confidence, and by the 8th minute the Roos had drawn level via a converted try to Carissa Harrison from a well-conceived set piece. Running with the wind in the second period, Wyong secured multiple repeat sets. Sarah Dimech kicked intelligently and with precision. The Erina defence held firm despite the pressure. Madi Crowe broke the deadlock , puncturing the Roos defensive line from inside her own 20m with almost no time left, accelerating into fresh air and evading the green and gold cover. Amy Regal converted for the final scoreline. The Eagles are an athletic team and able to play a more expansive game. The Roos played a much tighter, possession-based game with accurate short kicking and passing. Both game plans were effective and there was little between these teams on the day. Carissa Harrison was Players’ Player and Naydine Wahanui received the Coach’s Award.Under 19’s – Sponsored by Fill & Carry Fruit Market at Kanwal Village. Wyong 30 – Erina 24The Eagles came out of the blocks breathing fire and jumped to a 12-0 lead after just 12 minutes of play. The Roos were finding it difficult to complete possession sets against an opposition with good line speed who were prepared to hit hard and in numbers. Erina came off the boil as possession evened out, and on the back of field position, first Ray Kaifa and then Tallis Angianga crossed from close range. The teams went to the break at 12-12. Toby Elliot cut through the Wyong ruck from act-ing half, then found Dane Booth in support for the opening try of the second period. Erina shifted the ball right in the 15th minute releasing Braydon Crawley to score his second. With Crawley convert-ing both tries, Erina were looking the goods. The visitors did not panic, and as the Eagles tired and personnel changed, the game began to loosen up. Wyong took advantage. Luke Cain flashed down the western touchline and beat several cover defenders to the line. Kendyll Fahey crossed and after converting both tries the scores were level at 24-24. The Roos appeared to have the momentum, and with little time remaining, Jordan Boyd muscled over for the coup de grace. Supporters from both clubs can expect some intense battles each time these two teams meet in Season 2018. Jedd Boreham was voted Players’ Player and Ray Kaifa received the No Coward Award.Open Age – Sponsored by Citrus Clean Central Coast Erina 46 - Wyong 12The Roos pounced on a 2nd minute turnover and quickly shifted the ball left for Jeremy Tunks to score. The experienced Erina team were unperturbed by their poor start and methodically went about the business of moving around the Wyong defence and creating opportunities. Chief play-maker, Matt Downey, did as he pleased, and the Eagles attack ran rampant crossing for seven tries before the visitors again troubled the scorer. The Roos tackling technique was generally substand-ard, and the team lacked the energy and wherewithal to reverse the trend once the home team began rolling. For a team with aspirations for a high finish to the season, this was an unacceptable performance. Plenty of work to do before Open Age’s next match against St Edwards on 27 May. Players’ Player went to Jeremy Tunks and Pan Kaaka received this week’s No Coward Award. Reserve Grade – Sponsored by Optus Lakehaven Wyong 34 – Erina 6The Roos led 24-6 at halftime. The Eagles had no answer to Wyong’s potent right edge, with Luke Dolbel in his favourite right centre position crossing for three tries in the opening half hour. Despite losing three players from the regular starting lineup, the team responded well to last Sunday’s below par showing against The Entrance. The passing was crisp which permitted frequent changes to the point of attack, and there was a sense of urgency and directness both sides of the ball. Daniel Langbridge probably played more minutes than expected in his first game back from a hamstring induced sabbatical, but managed to throw the last pass for three of Wyong’s six tries. Given more responsibility in this match, Shaq Mitchell showed his uncommon power and finesse. “Overall a top result against the Eagles who were in second place.” - Tony KeevillLuke Dolbel was Players’ Player, and Daniel Langbridge received the No Coward Award.1st Grade – Sponsored by Evolution Security Wyong 22 – Erina 18The Eagles were primed for this match. Wyong had made several changes due to ISP commitments and injury, and with a big emotional investment from the home team and its supporters, this was a real danger game for the Roos. Continuing his strong form from Round 5, Izzy Cooper-Tetevano skipped to the outside of his marker in the 15th minute creating space for Mitch Nakhoul to dive over. A penalty goal from Brad Keighran on the siren had the visitors ahead 6-0 at halftime. Advan-taged by consecutive penalties in the 42nd minute, Danny Lawrence cut back behind the ruck off his left foot and crashed over. Tyler O’Brien converted to equalise. Erina scored again in the 48th minute after a left side spread created space for winger Luke Drummond to plant the ball in the corner. Lawrence converted to put the home team ahead 12-6. The Roos responded in the 52nd minute. Erina was penalised for reaching into the scrum. Play went left and Izzy Cooper-Tetevano powered past the disorganised defence to touch down. A big hit from Tarnae Mahon in the 59th minute caused the ball to squeeze loose on the Erina 10m line. Cooper-Tetevano again created space for his flanker, and Nakhoul grabbed his second of the afternoon. Keighran grubbered on the last in a subsequent possession set. The ball shaved the post pad and was fumbled by the defence into the welcoming hands of Jye Montgomery. Keighran converted to put the Roos ahead 20-12. However, Erina were not done yet. Jono Saweris crossed in the 73rd minute. Brad Bennett’s conversion made it 20-18. The final few minutes were hard fought, with neither team relenting. Keighran kicked a penalty goal on full time for the final scoreline. Cooper -Tetevano was voted Players’ Player. The No Coward Award went to Nick Lynn.
