The Pavilion Board of Directors Elects New Members

The board of directors of The Center for the Performing Arts at The Woodlands, home of The Cynthia Woods MitchellPavilion, elected four new members in May.

Newly elected members of the board are Bob Abendschein, vice president of corporate development for Anadarko Petroleum Corporation; Patrick Hynes, vice president, branchmanager for Fidelity Personal Investments; Steve Pate,

CEO of Strike, LLC; and Steve Van Howe, president of Eagle Ford Delivery Unit for Talisman Energy USA, Inc.

Joseph P. Ash was elected as the new board chairman. Ash is a long-time resident of The Woodlands and has worked in the oil and gas industry for over 30 years. Other officers of the board include Jerry MacDonald, president and CEO; Carol P. Garner, vice chairman; Mark E. Ellis, secretary; Jeff Young, vice president; and Lori Figaro, treasurer.

We are off to a strong start in our 25th season of presenting the very best concerts on tour and fine arts entertainment. May was one of our busiest months with sold out concerts including Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, Dave Matthews Band, Journey & Steve Miller Band and Jimmy Buffett.

This year Jimmy Buffett played our venue for the 18th time and launched his brand new venture, Margaritaville.TV. Margaritaville.TV broadcasts Buffett’s concerts live on the internet. The Woodlands concert was viewed online by thousands of people in multiple countries. We recently announced Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band who are performing Oct.10. This is going to be the first Beatle to grace our stage.

Our new state of the art LED screens have been well received by our touring artists and our fans. The artists’ managers have commented our video set up is by far the best in the country and our fans appreciate the quality and clarity of the video. I want to thank our retiring board members Dave Dunlap, Ray Wilcox and Hank Wood for their years of excellent service. They have served on our board for six years and were involved in several of The Pavilion’s improvement projects including the rebuild and expansion after Hurricane Ike. I also want to thank our retiring board chairman Jeff Shipley for his leadership and guidance over the last two years. I welcome and look forward to working with our new board members Bob Abendschein, Patrick Hynes, Steve Pate, Steve Van Howe and also our incoming chairman Joe Ash.

It was our honor to host The Woodlands High School and The Woodlands College Park High School graduations in June. More than 1,500 students walked across our stage receiving their high school diplomas. Next year we also plan to host graduations for Conroe High School and Oak Ridge High School.

There are many more events to come in our 25th season including the ever popular Star-Spangled Salute July 3 featuring the Houston Symphony Orchestra conducted by Michael Krajewski.

There is something for everyone to enjoy at The Pavilion.

Board of directors and staff

in each issue of CenterStage, we turn the spotlight onto one of our sponsors,a gesture of thanks for their invaluable contributions to the many things we work hard to accomplish.

The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion Reaches Outto the Community Through Various Events and ProgramsEducational outreach is an integral part of the mission of The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. Some form of music, dance, drama or song can capture the attention and engagement of all young people. Consequently, The Pavilion has developed programs to support fine arts students, offer academic and social incentives, foster new audiences and provide community enrichment opportunities.

Additionally, through the Community Ticket Program, The Pavilion offers thousands of complimentary tickets for its per-forming arts events to economically challenged students and families within the Greater Houston area, as well as to numerous charities and senior citizen organizations every year.

The Community Share Program at The Pavilion allows other nonprofit organizations in the area to have a vendor booth at performing arts events throughout the season. The booth gives these organizations the chance to promote and create awareness for their cause. Some organizations that have taken part in the program include CASA, Montgomery County Emergency Assistance, Montgomery County Food Bank and American Diabetes Association.

“I enjoy working with The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion as a community partner. The Pavilion, their staff and volun-teers always make an effort to create an enthusiastic and

fun venue for every event,” said Margie Taylor, director of marketing and development for Montgomery County Emer-gency Assistance. “The tent and table are prepared for easy set up. As a partner we bring our agency information and add to the excitement with games geared for families. It’s a great way to market our events to the community.”

The Pavilion also offers many programs that support fine arts students within the Greater Houston area. These pro-grams include scholarships for students studying fine arts, educational experiences with the Houston Symphony for area students and orchestral performances by young musicians that the public can enjoy.

For example, the Young Talent Spotlight encourages the artists of tomorrow by exposing them to the joy of perform-ing in front of a live audience. Past performers include Payne Academy of Performing Arts, The Woodlands Col-lege Park High School Orchestra, The Woodlands School of Rock, Class Act Productions, North Harris Performing Arts, Christian Youth Theater and many more.

Please take advantage of The Pavilion’s outreach oppor-tunities by emailling [email protected].

The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion is proud to highlight Galaxy FBO as a performing arts sponsor in the 2014 season. Founded in 2006, Galaxy FBO is part of Black Forest Ventures,a private asset management firm in The Woodlands, Texas. This year, Galaxy FBO is a sponsor of Children’s Festival, focusing on ex-panding activities on the top of the hill.

“As the Gateway to North Houston, our multi-million dollar facility serves as the impressive entry point to our community,” said Jeremy Gee, vice president for Galaxy FBO. “We see our facility as an amenity to the commu-nity, in line with the Mitchell family’s commitment and pas-sion to bring various unmatched amenities that separates our community from the rest.”

This year, activities on the hill during Children’s Festival include strapping on a parachute for races, building kites and testingthem out and other aviation-related activities, making

Galaxy FBO an ideal partner. Currently in its 19th year, Children’s Festival brought in more than 12,000 guests in 2013.

“We are thrilled to be a part of The Pavilion’s performing arts season that inspires young genera-tions to be more involved in the arts,” Gee said. “Like music that feeds young minds, aviation feeds the soul. The avia-tion industry is suffering from a lack of in-terest from younger talents so we hope our involvement with the Children’s Fes-tival will inspire young souls to get more involved in flying and pursue a career in aviation.”

Galaxy FBO serves general and corporate travel based in the Lone Star Executive Airport. With a new 15-acre facility which consists of two identical 50,000-square feet hangar spaces and a three story building that features Black Walnut Café with a view of the Runway 14-32, Galaxy FBO is the gateway to those traveling to North Houston and Montgomery County.

If you’re looking for something a little different to indulge in during your next visit to The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, visit the Texas Craft House in the South Plaza.

ARAMARK installed the Texas Craft House this year in time for the Bruce Springsteen concert May 6. The idea was to create a destination location and unique beverage choices for our guests.

At the Craft House you can find only Texas Craft beers from local breweries. Beers include selections from Southern Star, Lone Pint, Karbach and St. Arnold. These options were selected from guests’ input from The Pavilion’s Facebook page.

Also offered are new Crafted cocktails. Crafted cock-tails are starting to grow throughout the country in order to cater to guests who are not beer drinkers. Some of the premium cocktails include Long Island Ice Tea, Rum Runner, Sex on the Beach and Electric Lemonade. Master Blenders from Specialty Blends in Carrollton, Texas, craft and blend the drinks to internationally recognized flavor profiles of the drinks.

“With the growing popularity of craft beers, we wanted to make sure we had what our concertgoers wanted,” said Jesse Collier, general manager of ARAMARK. “We looked at best practices at our other ARAMARK locations throughout the country and Canada and decided that the best choice for us here at The Pavilion was to build a beer wall that could support a wide variety of flavor profiles and the ease of changing out brands as demands change from event to event due to the demographics of each show. “

ARAMARK sourced a local fabricator, Haggard’s Country Store in Plantersville, Texas, to build the bar tables. The five belly bar tables are from Jack Daniels Whiskey Barrels.

Drinks at the Craft House are $13 and large beers are $15. Come check it out at the next Pavilion concert.

The Ultimate Backstage Experience

The Pavilion Salutes Newest LMC Graduate

Open to all concertgoers, the House of Blues Hospitality Tent is located in The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion’s North Plaza across from the Woodforest Bank Club. What most people don’t know is that you only need your concert ticket to get inside, no

membership is required.

The House of Blues Hospitality (HOB) Tent provides concertgoers with a unique experience unlike anywhere else. The Pavilion is the only amphitheatre in the entire country with a House of Blues on site. Guests can enter the HOB Tent from the North entrance gates by the ticket office windows.

Here are some of the reasons why you should stop by the HOB tent during your time at The Pavilion:

• Access to the HOB Tent is FREE with your concert ticket.• It is air-conditioned.• It opens an hour before the venue opens, giving you time to beat some of the lines and closes an hour after the concert ends.• The tent has no age restrictions. All ages are welcome!• There are private restrooms located inside, providing guests with less waiting time.• A full service bar inside the tent provides you with more beverage options than the plaza concession stands.• Make sure you don’t miss any of the action—the HOB Tent contains multiple screens with a live feed of the concert for most shows.• Designed by Scott Smith, art director for House of Blues, the tent features unique artwork from around the world.• The special members-only section, known as The Foundation Room, is a nationwide HOB private club for professional and personal entertaining.• The HOB Tent is available for rentals, private parties, corporate events and more.

“Why do I like the HOB Tent at The Pavilion? Well, for one, it’s air conditioned! I love to stay cool on the hot summer days and what’s not to like? It has a full bar and it’s a great place to hang out before the concert and meet up with your friends,” said Suzanne Deliganis, director of sales at Hyatt Market Street.

The House of Blues Tent is open during all Live Nation concerts at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. Stop by and bring your friends!

The winner of the package, Cindy Gremp, gave the package to her daughter, Leslie, who was able to invite four friends to join her for the experience.

Pictured backstage at The Pavilion are Alex Murphy, Diana Johnson, Kathleen Murphy, Gremp and Noah Cass.

Congratulations to Leslie Williams, special events and volunteer coordinator, for The Cynthia Woods Mitch-ell Pavilion for completing Leadership Montgom-ery County (LMC).

From Bruce Springsteen to Journey and Jimmy Buffett this year has started off great! Coming up are acts such as OneRepublic, James Taylor, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie with CeeLo Green.

There are many opportunities to sign up for volunteer hours this year. One special

event is the Pre-Concert dinner & Fundraiser (read more about the event on this page). The event takes place prior to the Lionel Richie concert July 12. Make your reservations now for the event online at www.woodlandscenter.org. This is a great way to help support the per-forming arts events and educational outreach programs at The Pavilion.

As always I want to thank you for all that you do. You are the reason Partners is one of the best volunteer organizations in The Woodlands.

See you out there!

The bricks are located at the main entrance of the venue outside the North Gates. Proceeds from the brick donations support The Pavilion, a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization. The current price for a basic brick is $100, however, soon the program will offer a sister (duplicate) brick with The Pavilion logo on one side for your home or office.

The Pavilion recently hosted a brick dedication honoring Janet Wong, Ron Mullins, the late Cindy DuBois, Denise & Don Stillwagon, John &Cynthia Hageman, Annice & the late John Nanninga, Susan Vreeland-Wendt, Letty & the late Tom Kelly, Jeff Shipley and Mike Powell. recently a guest posted on The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion’sFacebook page about an experience she had buying tickets. “Janet” typed “Woodlands Pavilion tickets” in her search engine and was led to a phony site. She paid $326 for a pair of tickets and just one day before the concert, she was informed by this site that they did not actually have tickets for her. Thankfully “Janet” got her money back, but other guests have not been that lucky.

Often guests try to use a search engine to find The Pavilion’s website and are led to misleading pages instead. The Pavilion’s official website is www.woodlandscenter.org. By typing this UrL into your browser instead of using a search engine, you’re much less likely to be taken to an unofficial site. remember that Ticketmaster/Live Nation is The Pavilion’s only official ticket provider and we can only guarantee tickets purchased through these sites. Using the secondary market to buy and sell tickets, while legal in Texas, is a very big gamble.

Many guests get frustrated with tickets being bought and sold on the secondary market for more than face value, but as long as there is demand, scalpers can continue to buy tickets from The Pavilion and mark them up to be bought by unsuspecting buyers. encourage your friends and family to buy their tickets directly from The Pavilion Box Office or Ticketmaster.com/LiveNation.com, especially if a concert is not yet sold out. Some guests go straight to the secondary market first without even checking to see if The Pavilion still has tickets available. Taking this extra step can not only save you money, but protect you from a potential scam.

For more information on buying tickets safely, visit The Pavilion’s blog at woodlandspavilion.blogspot.com.
