Rush Pond drove here inhis 914-6 from New York.tr'le had planned to aÈtendÈhe event together.Our cars are only twenty-five units apart off theassembly líne. Hersbeen trying to beat me sÍnce1-977 or so, when he fírstpurchased hi-s six fromEd Russ.

Unfortunately rny Chevyvan had two tires go outon the trip up ¡¡hile Istayed Ín Chicago to handleËhe sj-tuation, our smallcaravan contínued to Wisconsinwith Sixer turned over toRushrs friend for Èhe remain-der of the trip. Severalhours laÈer I arrivedalittle more for wear, andalittle less on money. g

ALLES@ @ ALLES@This event ís both a socíalevent and a drivers event.You only do one lap at atime, Èhen return to theline to wait your nexËÈíme out. During thattíme you converse withfellow drívers abouteverything from the weatherto the latest tires(Yokohama A-008, callRonda Tíre). You alsohave mandatory passengersin the chase and sweeplanes. Many peoplestand, helmets in hand,at the sËart line toget rides (brave soulsíf you ask me).

One thing that was evídentwas the safety precautíonsChicago Region has starËedto push. Long sleevecotton shirts, long non-flame type pants, no openshoes, Sne1l 1970 helmet,minímum. Drivers Nomexand Snell 1975 helrnetsv/ere strongly recommended.I know, ít sounds likeexpensive overkill. Is Ít?

Rather than a concours,a display was held in theamphitheatre on MonroeMall. Fourteen Porscheswere viewed by clubmembers and the generalpublic, ¡¡ith a "People'sChoice'r vote for thefavorite car. A challenging Contenentialrallye put together byCraig Paull (r¿e had to keephim out of the overallcompetitíon somehow) andNils ErÍcksen left dovm-town GR and toured through-out Northern Kent County.The top trophies r^rent toËhe Straacks and theJohnsons from FurrinGroup. Highest Porschefinishers were the Thiemesin 3rd.

The rallye ended atBlythfield Country C1ub,where tr{MR member and BCCManager Bill Browne arrangedthe most lavísh beer andbrats meal ever produced.The sun r¿as hot and the beerwas co1d, and soon Blyth-fíeld members were intro-duced to I^IMRrs party anticsas Peggy Ríddle and othersended up in the pool,clothes and all. Everyonehad their share of fun, andr¡e even receíved an invíta-tion for next year . .how could you do any bett.er?

Unfortunately rny Chevyvan had two tires go outon the trip up ¡¡hile Istayed Ín Chicago to handleËhe sj-tuation, our smallcaravan contínued to Wisconsinwith Sixer turned over toRushrs friend for Èhe remain-der of the trip. Severalhours laÈer I arrivedalittle more for wear, andalittle less on money. g

Many peoplestand, helmets in hand,at the sËart line toget rides (brave soulsíf you ask me).
