FIRST AID PLANS – FINAL REQUEST As we are finalising our student profile database we are urgently seeking any outstanding First Aid Plans for any student diagnosed with a medical condition at school, including those that require administering of medication. This includes Asthma Plans. The deadline for the First Aid Plans to be handed in to school is Friday 6 November. All First Aid Plans must be completed by a doctor or GP. Completed Medical forms with associated medication (if required) should be handed to the office no later than Friday 6 November. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter. Chad Tsakissiris Rel. Deputy Principal

UNSW RESULTS Certificates and results for ALL UNSW competitions will be handed out at next week’s Primary Assembly on Wednesday 4 November at 1:45 pm.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY VARIATION Recently, the school staff undertook important curriculum training updates in two lengthy after-school sessions. This training was organised during term three to replace our last staff-only day on Friday 18 December. This will not affect students as no students are scheduled to attend school on the last Thursday (17/12) and Friday (18/12).

SELECTIVE HIGH SCHOOL APPLICATIONS 2017 Parents of current Year 5 students may like to know that applications for Year 7 selective high school placement in 2017 are now available online at www.schools.nsw.edu.au/shsplacement and these will close on 16 November. An information pack is available at the school office. The associated selective high school test will be held next year on Thursday 10 March 2016.

MELBOURNE CAP DAY

This will be on again on Tuesday 3 November. We will be encouraging our students to wear their favourite cap or hat to school and make a gold coin donation to support Stewart House.

BOYS’ CRICKET Last Friday our boys represented our school in Rd 4 of NSW PSSA knockout against Kanwal. Kanwal batted first and were bowled out for a very impressive 107. With a huge task ahead of them our boys set off to try and chase down 108 runs in 25 overs. It was a slow start and after 17 overs we were 3/58. Matt Smale and Hunter Goldie were resilient, scoring an average of 9 runs an over with Matt hitting 3 huge sixes and 3 fours to get us right back in it with 1 over to go. Matt had to retire on 40 not out and in the last over Drew Parry got off the mark to hit the winning run. The boys represented our school exceptionally well, showing great

2016 CAPTAIN/PREFECT AND SPORTS CAPTAINS—NOMINATIONS DUE Year 5 students last week received their criteria for leadership roles in 2016. All students in Year 5 have the opportunities to become a school leader, if they fit the criteria and then if they are nominated. Students may self nominate as long as they then have 2 other students second and third their nomination. Once nominations are received before closing Mr Bauer and myself will validate nomination forms (if they fit criteria) and then students will be advised so they can start to prepare their speeches. I will keep you posted via the newsletter and the school app. Janelle Chapman Stage 3 Assistant Principal

STUDENT BEHAVIOUR POLICIES We have been in the process of reviewing our school’s behaviour management procedures and policies this semester and after a consultation process, have produced several policy documents that are currently undergoing review and ratification by the School Council. All policies have been developed in line with current departmental policies and guidelines. These documents include:

School Suspension Policy Fair Discipline Code Policy Class Behaviour Management Policy

These documents will underpin the consequences given to students when inappropriate behaviour is displayed by students. Copies of these policies will also be made available to all BVPS families on our website and in hard copy from the office. One area that these policies address is physically aggressive behaviour. Currently there is an issue in our school where some students are displaying physically aggressive/violent behaviour toward each other. This is certainly not tolerated

sportsmanship and never giving up. They are now on to Rd 5 and if successful will be in the final 16 teams in the state.

PREFECTS’ EXCURSION TO OLD BERKELEY VALE SCHOOL The prefects visited the Old Berkeley Vale School site last week with the mission to restore the original concrete map of Australia which was created by former students of the school in the 1950s. They all chose a state then worked together in groups re-painting each state of Australia. It was a slow and demanding process as the map was basically back to bare concrete after many years of neglect. They worked tirelessly on their knees and hands applying the paint into every nook and cranny with second coats until we ran out of paint and time. All prefects really enjoyed the experience not just from learning some real life painting skills but from feeling that they have contributed to keeping the legacy of past students alive from the past century. In our Centenary Year this is a wonderful contribution from the current prefects that they will surely remember in future years. The prefects involved were: Georgia Martin, Lillie Alexander, Ethan May, Mia Petit, Quinn Richardson (Vice Captain), Ebony Convy (Captain), Jayden Reardon (Captain), Mason Johnson.
