    Indian cement industry came of age after liberalization, after which its productionand

    capacity increased manifold.

    Growth can be seen from 91 plants and 43 mtpa of cement production in 1990 hadbecome 136

    plants and 214 mtpa in April 2009.

    Its capacity utilization has also increased during the same period from 78% to 91%

    Remarkable capacity addition was due to producers expectations of growing market.
