    Role of COAI

    COAI has emerged as the official voice for the Indian GSMIndustry and interacts directly with Ministries, Policy Makers,Regulators, Financial Institutions and Technical Bodies. Itprovides a forum for discussion and exchange of ideas betweenthese bodies and Service Providers, who share a common interest

    in the development of cellular mobile telephony.

    COAI also collaborates with other Industry Associations such asCII, FICCI, ASSOCHAM, AUSPI, ISPAI, VSAT association.

    COAI also interacts with various international organizations such

    as ITU, GSMA, UMTS, WWRF and 3GPP etc. as well as the Press &Media to ensure that the issues in cellular industry are discussed,understood and debated on a wider platform.

    Mobile Instant Messaging:

    Instant Messaging (IM) can be broadly defined as "anInternet protocol (IP)-based application that provides

    communication between users that are simultaneouslyonline". Instant Messaging is a means of textcommunication between person to person (or multi-person) / members of a predefined group. It is

    characterized by various features, like interactive nature oftext dialogue box and presence, which allows users to see

    whether other members on their contact list are online andavailable (or not) to engage in communication.

    COAI has played an active role in promotinginfrastructure sharing in India.

    To provide better coverage and quality to the

    subscribers. To avoid undue proliferation of towers by leveraging

    the benefits of technological innovations to improvethe city skyline.

    To make Cellular Mobile Communications moreaffordable for the subscribers by reducing the costs forService Providers.

    The Indian GSM Operators are making all out effortsto meet Government objectives of increasing tele-density through aggressive growth and expansion of

    services.

    It is most important to note that the RF radiations emittedby Mobile Communication Systems lie in the non-ionizingpart of the electromagnetic spectrum and thus do not haveenough energy to cause any genetic damage.

    It is relevant to mention that for several decades extensiveRF research has been undertaken by researchers of thehighest integrity at organizations likeWorld Health

    Organization, British Medical Association, thesestudies does not demonstrate any substantive link betweenhuman health risks and the use of digital mobile phones.
