Cell Phone Policy
This policy shall outline RITALKA, Inc. guidelines in regards to cell phone usage, and shall apply to
all RITALKA, Inc. employees. For the purpose of this policy, the term “cell phone” is defined as any
handheld electronic device with the ability to receive and/or transmit voice, text, or data messages
without a cable connection (including, but not limited to, cellular telephones, digital wireless phones,
radio-phones/walkie-talkies, pagers, PDA’s,).
Use of Cell Phones or Similar Devices:
General Use at Work
While at work employees must exercise the same discretion in using personal cell phones as for
the use of Company phones. Personal calls during the work hours, regardless of the phone used, can
interfere with employee safety, productivity and be distracting to others. Employees shall restrict their
use of personal cell phones to non-working time, scheduled breaks, and lunch periods. RITALKA,
Inc. will not be liable for the loss of personal cell phones brought into the workplace.
In the event an employee wishes to have personal cell phone access during working hours for a
specified situation or event, the employee must receive prior permission from their supervisor.
Employees are encouraged to inform family members, daycare, etc. on how to contact the company
receptionist or plant managers in case of an unexpected emergency. Receptionist or managers will act
immediately if notified by the caller of the pending emergency at hand.
In the event a RITALKA, Inc. employee is on business travel, or performing work-related duties
outside the RITALKA, Inc. facility, use of personal cell phones shall be permitted during working
times for business related activities.
Company owned cell phones shall be issued to those employees in roles deemed critical to job
performance. Working time use of RITALKA, Inc. issued cell phones shall be limited to business
activities only.
Meeting Etiquette
To ensure the effectiveness of meetings, employees are asked to leave cell phones at their work station
or desk. Or, on the unusual occasion of an emergency or anticipated emergency that requires
immediate attention, the cell phone may be carried to the meeting on silent mode.
RIT-01 Revision D January 4, 2017
Unsafe Conditions Employees whose job responsibilities include regular or occasional driving and who are issued a cell phone
for business use are encouraged to refrain from placing or receiving phone calls while driving, and
prohibited from using their phone to text, surf the web, email or instant message or to take pictures or
video while driving. Use of a cell phone while driving is not required by the RITALKA, Inc. Safety must
come before all other concerns.
Regardless of the circumstances, including slow or stopped traffic, employees are required to pull into a
rest area or parking lot and safely stop the vehicle before using their phone to text, surf the web, email or
instant message or to take pictures or video. Special care should be taken in situations where there is
traffic, inclement weather or the employee is driving in an unfamiliar area.
Hands-free equipment will be provided with company-issued cell phones to facilitate the provisions of this
policy.
Employees who are charged with traffic violations resulting from the use of their cell phones while driving
will be solely responsible for all liabilities that result from such actions.
Camera Equipped Cell Phones
The use or presence of mobile camera phones in the workplace may interfere with productivity and
lead to problems, including personal conflicts, privacy violations, and the unauthorized disclosure of
confidential information. This policy is designed to reduce the risk of a deliberate or accidental use of
images for inappropriate purposes.
RITALKA, Inc. wishes to avoid any impropriety or harassment associated with the use of mobile
camera phones. This is especially true in places where employees and visitors have an expectation of
privacy, such as bathrooms, locker rooms, dressing areas, etc. RITALKA, Inc. is equally concerned
about the possibility of digital espionage, and the loss of confidential information and trade secrets.
Therefore RITALKA, Inc. prohibits employees and visitors from taking photos or videos of any kind
without management approval on all RITALKA, Inc. property and facilities.
Violations Employees in violation of this policy will be subject to the highest forms of discipline, including
termination. Under typical violations the employee can expect the following steps:
1.) Verbal warning from Manager on first violation
2.) Written warning from Manager on second violation
3.) Meeting with Company President on third violation
4. ) Termination of employment on fourth violation.
These typical steps do not eliminate the possibility of termination of employment on the first violation or
subsequent violations, when viewed in conjunction of severity-timing-purpose, or other past employee
actions.
As with any policy, management staff is expected to serve as role models for proper compliance with the
provisions above and are encouraged to regularly remind employees of their responsibilities in complying
with this policy.
