PotashCorp in SaskatchewanNourishing Potential

Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc. (PotashCorp) is part of Saskatchewan’s history – from a Crown corporation to a listed company on the Toronto and New York stock exchanges in 1989, the company is now a global industry leader in the three essential crop nutrients potash, nitrogen and phosphate. PotashCorp is the largest potash producer in the world by capacity.

Stakeholder Value

PotashCorp operates five potash mines in Saskatchewan (Allan, Cory, Lanigan, Patience Lake and Rocanville), as well as its corporate head office in downtown Saskatoon. The company employs approximately 2,300 people in the province.

PotashCorp’s impact extends beyond employment with wages and salaries paid in Saskatchewan totaling more than $245 million in 2014. That means employees buy from their local communities, support local businesses and contribute to local charities.

Since 2010, PotashCorp has purchased more than 60 percent of its goods and services* locally.

The company is concluding its massive $6.2 billion expansion program at its Saskatchewan potash mines. Cumulatively, over 36,000 jobs were estimated to be generated by the capital investment. Additionally, the extra employment during construction was projected to generate $2.7 billion in

personal income. “Beyond our financial and operational

performance, at PotashCorp we understand that our ability to impact value extends to our customers, employees and the communities where we operate. We take a broad view of our company’s role and we strive to create value for all our stakeholders,” says Jochen Tilk, PotashCorp’s President and Chief Executive Officer.

Community Investment

PotashCorp is known for building strong relationships and improving the well-being of its communities. By supporting projects that reflect the company’s goals and values, it strives to improve the quality of life in these communities.

In addition to the products it produces, PotashCorp aims to enhance food security both locally and globally. In developing countries, the company supports projects that empower subsistence farmers. In local communities, PotashCorp funds a variety

of food initiatives (such as food banks, community gardens and school nutrition programs). In fact, last year almost $10 million of its total $26 million community investment program went to local and global food security initiatives.

The company also invests in innovative

agricultural research. One example is PotashCorp’s commitment of up to $35 million over seven years to the Global Institute for Food Security (based out of the University of Saskatchewan) to address the increasing global demand for safe, reliable food through academic, government and corporate collaboration.

With a vast network of business partners in Saskatchewan, the company supports several events and organizations that help foster a strong business environment in its home province, including the Celebrate Success! Awards Gala and the Greater Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce.

* Excluding capital projects and raw materials.

“The total value of PotashCorp’s community investment

program in 2014 was over $26 million company-wide with the majority of that invested right

here in Saskatchewan.”

“The potash, nitrogen and phosphate fertilizer products

PotashCorp produces help farmers nourish the potential

of their soil, helping to feed our growing world.”

To YourContinued Success

Proud sponsor of the Saskatoon Business Hall of Fame

It is with great pride that the Greater Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce announces Ms. Ellen Gaunt as the 2015 RBC SABEX Hall of Fame inductee.

After spending her childhood in the small rural town of Renown, SK, Ellen moved to Saskatoon in 1946 and took a cosmetician’s course shortly thereafter. Today, she has over 60 years of experience and is credited with pioneering much of the Saskatoon beauty industry. Her commitment to entrepreneurship and community betterment makes her a deserving individual for this year’s induction.

Gaunt first began working at Paramount Beauty Salon in 1952 under former owner Herman Barret, later purchasing the business from him in 1962. Throughout her time as owner of Paramount (she sold the business in 2000), Ellen showed a willingness to constantly be on the cutting edge of the beauty industry, having been the first company to introduce waxing, tanning and European skincare products such as Babor and Guinot to the Saskatoon market as well as being Saskatoon’s first day spa.

While Paramount Day Spa Salon & Boutique has enjoyed tremendous change and success over the past 65 years, Ellen Gaunt has remained a constant. Now 90 years of age and 65 years after her first day at Paramount, Ellen still maintains a work schedule of more than 20 hours per week. “I love spending time with the girls at the spa, it helps keep me young!” says Gaunt.

In addition to her work commitments, Ellen has spent much of her career dedicating time and guidance to numerous non-profit organizations throughout the city, including the Light of the Prairies Society, Saskatchewan Abilities Council, and Cosmopolitan Industries. Ms. Gaunt is also a former Board member for the Partnership, and has spent years advocating for and promoting the downtown business core.

When asked what it means to be inducted into the SABEX Hall of Fame, Ellen, in her typical fashion, deflects praise. “I have had the pleasure of having a great team and fantastic clients throughout my time at my Paramount, and I owe much of my success to them,” says Gaunt.

The Greater Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce and Celebrate Success! Committee congratulates Ms. Gaunt on her life-long commitment to the betterment of the Saskatoon business community.

Sponsored byA business is nominated who through actions and commitments are outstandingly promoting the interdependent relationship between business and peace.

“Chambers of Commerce worldwide have long championed the relationship between peace and business. Business deals are sealed with a handshake, and lasting business relationships are created when handshakes are made in good faith between partners desiring mutual benefits for one another.”

2015 Oslo Business for Peace Award Nominee John Cross

The Greater Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce proudly joins the International Chamber of Commerce and the Business for Peace Foundation in selecting a nominee for the prestigious “Oslo Business for Peace” award.

Chambers of Commerce worldwide have long promoted the benefit of peace through trade. In today’s world, building strong business relationships is more important than ever, and such relationships are best established through mutually rewarding ethical business practices. The Award is given to seven outstanding nominees for their adding to a better understanding of the relationship between ethical business practices and peace.

The Greater Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce is proud to have selected John Cross as their 2015 nominee. Born in the small village of Budworth, Great Britain, Mr. Cross has become a model for Saskatchewan entrepreneurs and a champion of innovation for the agricultural sector across Saskatchewan and the world.

After completing his Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Bradford in 1963, John moved to Canada to further his education with a Masters of Engineering Science from the University of Western Ontario.

In 1975, John was appointed as the first Executive Director of POS Pilot Plant Corporation. In 1980, John co-founded one of Saskatchewan’s earliest biotechnology

companies, Philom Bios. Philom Bios was responsible for the creation of a new agricultural input – a phosphate inoculant which gives farmers the ability to increase productivity with reduced fertilizer inputs.

John has been an active community leader, having been involved with the Royal University Hospital Foundation Board, SYPE, SREDA and the Raj Manek Mentorship Program.

While John has been named the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions throughout his career, he claims that the most rewarding recognition he has received is the many conversations he has had with farmers who have benefited from the products he has helped to develop.

At the same time, we are committed to providing 5% of our profits to help fund underprivileged youth to take part in sports! The next day, his friends family gave him the opportunity of a lifetime and blessed him with funds to pay the fees and even gave Kendal rides to and from practices/games. CRAVINGS maternity-baby-kidsIt’s hard to remember the days when booming Saskatoon lacked for anything, but

that was exactly the situation in which Jordana Jacobson found herself during her first pregnancy. Refusing to compromise style while on her path to parenthood, she sought out fashionable maternity clothing and hip baby gear. Quickly recognizing a significant void in the Saskatoon market, her search led her out of province where she discovered products offering both fashion and function.

With a dream of becoming a successful entrepreneur and a desire to bring the newest trends to Saskatoon, a career change became imminent for Jordana. In February 2006, the modern store for mamas launched with overwhelming success; cravings maternity & baby boutique (as it was originally named) hit the ground running with a driving force of passion and enthusiasm!

Fast forward to 2013 and just like that belly bump, CRAVINGS continued to grow! CRAVINGS expanded for the third time since it’s original opening and now offers everything from belly bump to big kid under one roof! This one-stop-shop now caters to kids up to age 8, while still offering the same quality product and exceptional service that Saskatoon has been accustomed to. Find top of the line baby gear, quality nursery furniture, maternity and kids clothing, children’s footwear, toys and so much more on the corner of Preston Avenue and 8th Street.

M&A Homes Group Ltd.M&A Homes Group Ltd. is a residential and commercial land developing

company which was formed in March of 2012. My first undertaking, as a general contractor, in the City of Saskatoon was a project at 1601 Louise Avenue. I had this property subdivided and created 1603 Louise Street which I build a house on and then sold. I then did a new build at 927 Hargreaves, a new subdivision in the City.

Through this build, M&A Homes Group Ltd. was able to obtain a Contractor’s License with the City of Saskatoon, which is quite an undertaking. I sold this house in February of 2014. I then did a major renovation of a small commercial warehouse at 1932 St. George Avenue and had it subdivided into 7 separate titles of commercial space. I am presently working on the development of a large scale commercial development at 415 Willowgrove Square in Saskatoon, The Myriad Project.

QuickLinkt Solutions Inc.The Problem: Referrals within the real estate industry are time sensitive, and the

parties involved in the transaction are typically commission contingent. Follow-up, tracking and managing referral leads can be overwhelming, and often opportunities are missed and business lost.

For real estate agents, losing track of an agent-to-agent referral results in the non-payment of a 25% industry standard commission referral fee; losing track of a referral to a mortgage broker or other service providers results in the direct loss of a potential listing or purchase commission.

For real estate franchisors (brands), revenue is contingent on agent productivity and any non-payment or lost agent commission fees have a negative impact. Franchisors benefit greatly if relocation referrals are made within their brand (amongst their own agents) as they then participate in 100% of the transaction instead of just the 25% referring fee that their agent would receive (the other 75% going to the outside agent). To help facilitate these in-brand referrals, franchisors produce and distribute a yearly print referral directory to each agent; however these directories are costly, constantly out of date and provide no method for managing and tracking referrals. The QuickLinkt platform makes it easy for real estate agents to make and manage relocation referrals to other agents, as well as referrals to trusted service providers; such as mortgage brokers, bankers, home inspectors and appraisers.

Their Footprint on Saskatchewan

Women Entrepreneurs of Saskatchewan Inc. supports the pursuits and endeavors of women business owners and professionals throughout Saskatchewan. W.E. was designed to help women at every stage of their journey as business owners, from dreaming to retiring. W.E. was created for women who are just starting out and need help to develop a business plan, learn the skills required to own and operate a business, and obtain the financial assistance required. W.E. exists for women who already own and operate a business and want to expand with advice, guidance and financial support. W.E. also guides business owners who are ready to retire and need help with succession planning.

W.E.’s history over the last 20 years has been significant, heavily rooted in the advancement of entrepreneurism and the economic vibrancy of the province. Since inception in 1995, W.E. has experienced incredible growth, evolving from six members to over 900 members and in 2014 reached a significant milestone of

lending $30 million to entrepreneurs in the Saskatchewan economy. Such phenomenal growth speaks volumes about the great need for such an organization as well as to its proven ability to help the women of this province to succeed in business.

The organization has established a reputation as an invaluable resource for women entrepreneurs in Saskatchewan and has helped many women to better their businesses, careers, and lives. Their members have established successful enterprises and have helped shape the robust business environment of this Province.

As W.E. enters into twenty years as an organization their course is concise, the organization will embark into new frontiers as they celebrate the achievements of the past and build on those milestones to further create a dynamic, competitive and innovative organization for the future. “I have been very happy with the help and support provided by Women Entrepreneurs of Saskatchewan through the process of writing my business plan, loan process and actual setting up of my business. It gives me peace of mind that W.E. is there for me not only throughout the process of setting up the business but also as I grow my business.” Roomana Aziz, Mortal Sin Foods

“The very first step I took in starting my business was joining Women Entrepreneurs and completing the Business Plan seminar. Through a myriad of meetings, phone calls and emails, my Business Advisor has been my champion. She has built me back up in times of trouble and has been there to celebrate my success. As I venture down my 12th year in business the support from Women Entrepreneurs will continue to guide my growth for the next decade.” Nicola

Lawson, Pick Nic’s Catering

“In 2011 I decided to expand my interior design business into the retail sector to offer clients interior products, design services, and full project management out of one location - Metric Design Centre. Initially, when I was exploring the possibilities for this move, Women Entrepreneurs gave me a running start by helping me with business forecasting and planning, and they also provided me with a start-up loan. Without their support, my growth and success would not be possible. They have mentored and guided me throughout my business path, and I know that if and when I am struggling, they are there to help me find my way. I have utilized the Mentoring Circle, their contacts, and have attended the seminars and networking events which have all helped me to further my success.” Tamara Bowman, Metric Design Centre
