(photo by MERRILL) Funny money Use of fake money continues to plague local police and business BY WILLIAM HOLLOMAN Staff Writer Mount Olive Police have had an active week in handling a variety of issues, including two more incidents of counterfeit money being passed at local businesses. This time the fake money in- cluded three $100 bills in one incident and a fake $20 in an- other. Both incidents are still under investigation and the fake money was confiscated. The three fake $100 bills were passed at Walmart. Of- ficials said an unknown black male used them to purchase a $279 PS4 gaming unit and left the store before the bills were checked. In the other fake money in- cident, a clerk at the Friendly Mart on South Breazeale Ave- nue said an intoxicated black male attempted to purchase beer with a counterfeit $20. Police said the clerk told them she refused to make the sale and the man demanded the money back and then left the business. Police said they are reviewing the business video. In other police activity, Wil- nique Simprevil of 113 Hills- boro Street filed a report with police that someone removed the vehicle license tag from his 2005 Dodge while it was parked at his residence. The license plate number is ECZ-1772. 42-year-old Bailey Gonzales of 475 Greenfield Cemetery Road was charged with posses- sion of marijuana as result of a traffic stop on James Street. Jonathan Bond of U.S. High- way 117 Alternate in Mount Olive reported the theft of re- frigerator compressors, electric motors, and copper, all valued at $2,000, from his business at 1107 North Breazeale Avenue. A larceny charge was filed against 52-year-old Garcia Parrish of 239 Garner Chapel Road. He was cited for the theft of cell phones accessories from the Speedway store on N.C. Highway 55. Violent crimes investigated After several weeks when property crimes made up near- ly all reported crimes in the Tribune coverage area of Du- plin County, a number of vio- lent crimes were reported the week of Memorial Day. Sheriff deputies were sum- moned to Friendship Church Rd., Warsaw on May 29th, re- sulting in two charges of sim- ple physical assault. On the 30th, another assault was reported on W. Cameron St., Calypso. A report of communicating threats was lodged at Tarheel Estates, Warsaw on June 4th. A purse was snatched at the Family Dollar in Faison on the 4th as well. In other reports, an auto theft was reported on Boyette Rd., Warsaw on the 29th. Purdee’s Diesel Repair, Mount Olive, reported a bur- glary on the 29th. A larceny was reported on John David Grady Rd., on the 30th. A missing person was re- ported from a Friendship Church Rd., Faison address on the 1st. A College St., Faison resi- dent reported a stolen license plate on the 1st. Charges of escaping custody/ eluding arrest and related traf- fic charges were filed after an incident on Community Road, Warsaw on the 3rd.

Funny moneyUse of fake money continues to plague local police and business

Staff WriterMount Olive Police have had

an active week in handling a variety of issues, including two more incidents of counterfeit money being passed at local businesses.

This time the fake money in-cluded three $100 bills in one incident and a fake $20 in an-other. Both incidents are still under investigation and the fake money was confiscated.

The three fake $100 bills were passed at Walmart. Of-ficials said an unknown black male used them to purchase a $279 PS4 gaming unit and left the store before the bills were checked.

In the other fake money in-cident, a clerk at the Friendly Mart on South Breazeale Ave-nue said an intoxicated black male attempted to purchase beer with a counterfeit $20. Police said the clerk told them she refused to make the sale and the man demanded the

money back and then left the business. Police said they are reviewing the business video.

In other police activity, Wil-nique Simprevil of 113 Hills-boro Street filed a report with police that someone removed the vehicle license tag from his 2005 Dodge while it was parked at his residence. The license plate number is ECZ-1772.

42-year-old Bailey Gonzales of 475 Greenfield Cemetery Road was charged with posses-sion of marijuana as result of a traffic stop on James Street.

Jonathan Bond of U.S. High-way 117 Alternate in Mount Olive reported the theft of re-frigerator compressors, electric motors, and copper, all valued at $2,000, from his business at 1107 North Breazeale Avenue.

A larceny charge was filed against 52-year-old Garcia Parrish of 239 Garner Chapel Road. He was cited for the theft of cell phones accessories from the Speedway store on N.C. Highway 55.

Violent crimes investigatedAfter several weeks when

property crimes made up near-ly all reported crimes in the Tribune coverage area of Du-plin County, a number of vio-lent crimes were reported the week of Memorial Day.

Sheriff deputies were sum-moned to Friendship Church Rd., Warsaw on May 29th, re-sulting in two charges of sim-ple physical assault.

On the 30th, another assault was reported on W. Cameron St., Calypso.

A report of communicating threats was lodged at Tarheel Estates, Warsaw on June 4th.

A purse was snatched at the Family Dollar in Faison on the 4th as well.

In other reports, an auto theft was reported on Boyette Rd., Warsaw on the 29th.

Purdee’s Diesel Repair, Mount Olive, reported a bur-glary on the 29th.

A larceny was reported on John David Grady Rd., on the 30th.

A missing person was re-ported from a Friendship Church Rd., Faison address on the 1st.

A College St., Faison resi-dent reported a stolen license plate on the 1st.

Charges of escaping custody/eluding arrest and related traf-fic charges were filed after an incident on Community Road, Warsaw on the 3rd.
