CEBC’s Annual MENA Clean Energy Summit is a daylong event that brings together all current and potential members to discuss different issues with key stakeholders across the clean energy industry.

The next CEBC MENA Clean Energy Forum will be held on 5 March 2018. We are looking forward to hosting an event that provides a valuable opportunity for our Members to participate in meaningful dialogue, listen to inspirational and informative speakers, and network with like-minded individuals from across the MENA region. We look forward to seeing you there.

Our inaugural forum, “Clean Energy Finance in the MENA region”, was held in 2011, in joint cooperation with the Dubai International Financial Centre and the International Project Finance Association with the support of Bloomberg New Energy Finance.

Our second forum, “MENA – The Clean Energy Upstart?” took place in 2013, focussing on three key areas: power and water energy efficiency, alternative financing mechanisms (e.g., Green Sukuk and SME financing) and the economic and social impact of clean energy across MENA.

OurOur third forum, , “Creating the Path to Success ”, took place in 2014 and featured topics such as smart grid and smart metering, energy and water efficiency, financing and project development, distributed energy, solar developments, renewable desalination and district cooling options.

Our fourth forum took place in 2015 and covered the development, finance, technology, construction and the operation and maintenance of clean energy solutions for renewable energy, energy efficiency, and the smart grid, including energy storage, and the environmental sector.

OurOur fifth forum took place in 2016 and addressed topics including the MENA market outlook, the future of utility scale solar in the MENA Region, project implementation of distributed solar and accessing finance, phasing out subsidies and energy efficiency and ESCO models.

CEBC and Enerwhere have collaborated to create and maintain an interactive renewable energy projects map for the MENA region. This map is designed to raise awareness and provide core information for all stakeholders in the region including developers, financiers, technology providers and policy makers.

The map compiles a list of 100+ existing renewable energy projects in the Middle East, from small, off-grid projects of several kW to 100MW utility-scale projects like Shams1.

ByBy making this data available to the public, CEBC and Enerwhere hope to contribute to sound policy decision making, and generally encourage the development of the renewable energy industry in the region.

2017/2018 is the third year of the UAE National Schools Environmental Protection Programme (the Programme). The Programme was established in 2015 to provide young people the opportunity to explore renewable, clean energy and sustainability issues. This programme is provided free of charge by our sponsors.

Through this programme, we aim to:• Engage young people, promoting an interest in clean and renewable energies;• Provide students the opportunity to meet inspiring speakers from the renewable energy sector;•• Allow students to see first-hand the implementation of clean energy projects in the UAE;• Enable students to undertake leadership opportunities; and• Encourage students to consider a career in the clean energy sector. To participate in the programme, schools must register their interest. Once registered, schools are then able to nominate two student Ambassadors (aged 13 years and older) for our Ambassador Programme. These Ambassadors become representatives of their school in the programme, and are expected to share their knowledge and findings with other students at the school.

Ambassadors hAmbassadors have the opportunity to participate in a range of activities, including: • Having their articles/thoughts and profile published on the cebcschools.com website;• Participating in field trips to real organisations operating in the clean energy sector; and• Attending roadshows, educational presentations and workshops hosted by CEBC members focused on topics such as sustainability, waste reduction, solar energy and more.

AsAs well as this, all students in the programme, whether they are Ambassadors or not, can participate in our interschool competitions; and share photos and information on their school’s sustainability efforts on the cebcschools.com website.

In 2018, we hope to have over 60,000 students across the UAE engaged in our schools programme.

CEBC working groups are Member only groups that develop recommendations for promoting a specific topic in the clean energy industry.

Clean Energy Policy Working Group Our Clean Energy Policy Working Group was launched in February 2014, and brings together a range of expertise to develop clean energy policy recommendations for the MENA region.

Climate Finance Working GroupOurOur Green Sukuk Working Group was launched to promote the issuance of sukuk for renewable energy projects, in partnership with the Gulf Bond and Sukuk Association and the Climate Bonds Initiative. The group aims to channel market expertise to develop best practices and promote the issuance of sukuk for the financing of climate change investment projects, such as renewable energy projects. This initiative is the first of its kind taken to finance renewable energy projects in the MENA region.

New Energy Vehicles Club LLaunched in 2017, the CEBC New Energy Vehicles (EV) Club joins key industry players to further the development of the EV market in Dubai and beyond. The club represents the EV industry to speak as one voice to relevant authorities, lobby for requirements and work alongside local authorities to facilitate market development. The club creates awareness and educates the public through workshops and conferences, shares information through networking on regulations and requirements, technological developments and industry progress. Club access is available to Partner and Member level CEBC Members, and is subject to approval of the founding Members.
