The Experience Advantage.Employers are Increasingly Seeking New Hires with Experience
It has been 35 years since UNI launched an internship and coopera-ti ve educati on program. In that ti me, the value placed on internships by employers has increased. To remain competi ti ve, nearly every academic program at UNI off ers students the opportunity to earn credit while per-forming preprofessional experiences. From a traditi onal summer internship to a 50 hour experience, students are fi nding ways to gain experience and make themselves more marketable.
In 2009, UNI launched the zero credit transcript notati on program. This program enables students to earn a notati on on their transcript for pre-professional work, most oft en in the Cedar Valley. Since its rollout, over 334 students have parti cipated.

Growth Opportunity When a student is working in a pre-professional experience, they oft en are not aware they can earn credit or a transcript notati on for their experience. In the next year, UNI Career Services seeks to expand the process by working with students and employers in earning recogniti on for work completed.
