Catholic Education Week

May 1 – 5, 2017 is Catholic Education Week. This week is an important time for us to celebrate our relationships as members of home, school, parish and extended communi-ties. All of us play an important part in main-taining our Catholic school system. This year’s celebration centers on the theme “Walking Forward Together”. We will be celebrating in our school with daily prayers and lessons in our class-rooms that address the Catholic themes. On Tuesday, May 2nd students will be treated to a musical performance by “The Sultans of Swing.” We will be celebrating with our parish on May 3rd at 10:00 a.m. along with the stu-dents from St. John XXIII School. It will be a very full house, but you are all welcome to attend. On May 4th, our grade 7 and 8 stu-dents will be bused to St. Joseph’s High School to attend the performing arts Coffee house.

• June 9th is a PA day. • Fitzroy over the carp cross country run will

take place on June 25th. Our in-school track and field competition for grade 7 and 8 students will take place on May 9th.

EQAO

The dates for EQAO testing for grades 3 and 6 this year begin on May 23rd and continue until June 5th. The test is made up of 6 one hour long sessions. We will de-cide on the exact dates shortly for each class and inform parents via letter. During the first and second week of May, three university students will be joining as classroom tutors. Part of their job is to help students as they prepare for these as-sessments. Please welcome: Lauren Stroud, Averie Rowan, and Jen McNulty.

Kindergarten Maple Syrup

With the help of Mr. Epp, the kinder-garten students of St. Joseph’s school tapped a maple tree in the front yard and enjoyed mak-ing maple syrup and maple treats in their class-rooms.

Art at Nick Smith

In celebration of Catholic Education week, artwork from St. john XXIII and St. Joseph’s School is on display at the Nick Smith Centre. Feel free to check it out!

End of Year Trips

Over the next two months, students will be invited to participate in a number of end of year Activities. Should any of these activities cause undo financial hardship, please contact Mrs. Rowat.
