Everyday Stewardship

What power lies in a name? Have you ever met a "David,"

"Holly," or "Jack" and said, "They don't look like a David,

Holly, or Jack"? Sometimes our name actually adds

something to our person. Peculiar people sometimes

have peculiar names. Some people of tremendous

strength have names that we deem strong as well. Some-

times we give nicknames to people because of some at-

tributes they exhibit.

In the Bible, names mean a lot. Saul changes his name to

Paul when he converts. Adam means "man," as in the first

man. Eve means "to live" or "to breathe." Elizabeth took

great care to name her son John as God commanded,

even if other family members did not understand why

such a unique name not found in their lineage. It was a

unique name for a child who had a unique future of pre-

paring the way for the Messiah.

We have our baptismal names, our surnames, our Confir-

mation names, and our maiden names. But all disciples of

Jesus also bear the same name: Christian. People may

wonder what does a David, Holly, or Jack really look like,

but they should never wonder what a Christian looks like.

Unfortunately, too often those who bear this name don't

resemble the characteristics embodied in the name.

Simply, a Christian looks like Christ. A Christian acts like

Christ. A Christian truly is Christ to a world that seeks to

uncover the true meaning of his name.

La Corresponsabilidad Diaria

¿Qué poder hay en un nombre? ¿Alguna vez conociste a

un "David", una "Hada" o un "Juan" y dijiste: "no tienen cara

de David, Hada o Juan"? A veces nuestro nombre le aporta

algo a nuestra personalidad. Las personas peculiares a ve-

ces tienen nombres peculiares. Algunas personas muy fuer-

tes tienen nombres que también consideramos fuertes. A

veces ponemos apodos según algunos de los atributos que

esas personas muestran.

En la Biblia, los nombres tienen mucho significado. Saúl

cambió de nombre cuando se convirtió y pasó a llamarse

Pablo. Adán significa "hombre", como el primer hombre. Eva

significa "vivir" o "respirar". Isabel tuvo mucho cuidado de

llamar a su hijo Juan como Dios le había ordenado, aun

cuando otros miembros de la familia no entendían por qué le

pondría un nombre tan particular que no se encontraba en su

linaje. Era un nombre particular para un niño que tenía el

futuro particular de preparar el camino para el Mesías.

Tenemos nombres de bautismo, apellidos, nombres de con-

firmación y nombres de soltera. Pero todos los discípulos de

Jesús además llevan el mismo nombre: cristianos. La gente

podría preguntarse cómo es realmente un David, una Hada o

un Juan; pero nunca debería preguntarse cómo es un cris-

tiano. Desdichadamente, con mucha frecuencia, quienes

llevan este nombre no reflejan las características representa-

das en este nombre. En resumen, un cristiano se parece a

Cristo. Un cristiano actúa como Cristo. Un cristiano no es

más que Cristo para un mundo que busca descubrir el verda-

dero significado de su nombre.

Rite of Christian Initiation Ages

8 Years to 16 Years St Therese Parish wel-comes families with unbap-tized children desiring initia-tion into the Catholic Church. This process offers sacrament preparation for Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. Families inter-ested in Christian Initiation for their children can contact the parish Catechetical Center for infor-mation regarding this process. Two years of regular attendance in the religious instruction program is required as part of the prep-aration process. Specific sessions designed to provide information and support to parents as pri-mary religious educators of their children. Registration will be on the month of July -2018 af-ter the weekend Mass.

El proceso de iniciación cristiana ofrece prepara-

ción para recibir los sacramentos de Bautismo,

Eucaristía y Confirmación. Para niños entre las

edades de 8 a 16 años.

Se requieren dos años de educación religiosa para

recibir los sacramentos en la Vigilia Pascual.

Las registraciones comenzaran durante el mes de

julio -2018 después de las misas de fin de sema-

na.

Pastor’s Messages

A week ago we formally started the Summer Festival, which will take place on August 25 and 26. The commissions are all already formed. Thank God there is a lot of availability in the leaders of the ministries. The coordinators of the event are Vicente and Ana Alamo. The most important commis-sions are: the Grand Raffle (by Paul Archuleta), the Queen and Princess (Maria Paredes), the musical groups (Otilio Sotelo), the Tombola (Leticia Holguín), the Games for chil-dren (Vicente Alamo) and the Food . All Parish Groups or Ministries and voluntary families are involved in this last commission. We need each of you to find your space to par-ticipate. The Summer Festival is a matter for all parishioners. As in the previous year, we hope it will be a favorable event to foster fraternity, dialogue and the healthy coexistence of the great parish family. Regarding the Raffle, 80 families have already brought their envelope of tickets to win a prize. Also 8 girls have been scored to participate in the contest of the Queen and Princess. Several items for the Tumbler have been collected, but we need more items! Today it's up to you to make a decision to participate and make our Festival a success. Thank you very much for your support and partici-pation.

Hace una semana hemos iniciando formalmente el Festival de Verano, que tendrá lugar 25 y 26 Agosto. La organiza-ción de las Comisiones ya está bien avanzada. Gracias a Dios hay mucha disponibilidad en los líderes de los ministe-rios. Los coordinadores del evento son Vicente y Ana Álamo. Las comisiones más destacadas son: la Gran Rifa (por Paul Archuleta), la Reyna y Princesa (María Paredes), los Grupos musicales (Otilio Sotelo ), la Tómbola (Leticia Holguín), los Juegos para niños (Vicente Álamo) y la Comida. En esta última comisión están involucrados todos los Grupos o Mi-nisterios de la Parroquia y familias voluntarias. Necesitamos que cada uno de ustedes busque su espacio para participar. El Festival de Verano es asunto de todos los feligreses. Co-mo el año anterior, esperamos que sea un evento favorable para fomentar la fraternidad, el dialogo y la sana convivencia de la gran familia parroquial. Respecto a la Rifa, 80 familias han llevado ya su sobre de boletos para ganar un premio. También se han anotado 8 niñas para participar en el con-curso de la Reyna y Princesa. Varios artículos para la Tóm-bola se han recogido. ¡Falta mucho más! Hoy le toca a us-ted tomar una decisión para participar y que nuestro Festival sea un éxito. You can drop them off at the parish office dur-ing the week, place them in the donation box at the entrance, or call Ana Alamo for pick up 801-201-8777. We can also provide a donation receipt if you'd like. Volunteers - help with your time in booths during the festival. Disposables - plastic forks, spoons, cups, napkins. Raffle tickets to the St. Therese Festival are now availa-ble after each mass. The 3rd place winner will receive an Playstation Limited Edition 4 console, 2nd place win-ner will receive a 58 inch Samsung 4K Ultra High Defini-tion TV, and the 1st place winner will receive $1,000 in the form of a Visa Gift Card. Each packet has 38 tickets with 3 free. The cost is $35 per envelope. Please sell to your friends and neighbors. The individual who buys or sells the most tickets will get 100 free tickets on the day of the raffle.

Kindness Counts Author and Screenwriter Myles Connolly Once Said, “Everybody at one time or another has known such people—strangers, relatives or friends— who have changed the quality of the day for others…The shining quality of goodness radiates from them, from their mere presence. All these, humble and unaware, carry with them the kindness and generosity of their lives. Kindness thrives in the home The word “kind” comes from the Old English “cynd” for kin or family. Within the home, we first learn to respect and care for others. Yet it’s easy to take those closest to us for granted. When their young son married, Marilyn and Bill Fanning invited the couple and their baby to live with them while they finished school. Then Mrs. Fanning’s parents also moved in because her mother broke her arm. The crowded four-generation household became selfish and argumentative. “Life had be-come one raw nerve,” said Marilyn in Guideposts. Finally, the Fannings decided to encourage respect, saying: “We all love one another. We’re just not showing much consideration for one another.” They set ground rules on chores, budgets, mealtimes, and late-night noise. Attitudes improved, and life became more pleasant.
