Reflecting on the Gospel We largely remain oblivious to the deeper movement within us of the unfolding of time, unaware that in the midst of daily, mundane activities – like eating, drinking, marrying, grinding at the mill, etc – God’s work of salvation is drawing nearer. Thus, time is not a “container” of mundane events, but is advancing toward something new – Christ’s definitive coming and the fullness of salvation. Our belief in Christ’s presence compels us to “stay awake” by conforming our lives now to the ways of God. It is meeting God on “the mountain of the Lord” that brings us to faithfulness. Staying awake, vigilance, is about faithfulness. It is about coming to the Lord, welcoming him into our hearts, encountering his instructions to us. All of this unfolds in the ordinary circumstances of our daily living a we welcome not only our family members but also the poor and needy into our Christmas preparations, as we extend our love and care for our family and friends to those who are alone and without family, as we root out whatever robs us of the kind of serenity and silence that enable us to prepare for Christ’s coming. Yes, Gospel living is a matter of staying awake in order that we may come to God.
now, and the results are very satisfying, and the work is very rewarding. We are open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1000hrs to 1400hrs. We could do with a few more helpers to serve light refreshments and meals, so that not everyone has to attend every day. Also, of course, there are significant running costs to cover, so donations would be very welcome. One way to donate is to become a 'Friend of the Homeless', which involves a modest annual commitment. With the impending CTIC Winter Night Shelter Scheme, coming in to effect in a few weeks time, inflatable beds and sleeping bags will be needed, so any of those you may have, surplus to requirements, would be gratefully received. Many thanks to those who have helped us so far, and to those who are helping in various ways. For more information, contact Helena, in the Office, or Bernard or Judy on 258097"if you would like to make your donation by cheque, or if you wish to make a regular donation to the Fund by

A BACKGROUND TO MODERN THEOLOGY Father Michael Morton from St. Winefride’s, Sandbach is running a series of talks on 21st 7:30pm at St. Gabriel’s, Alsager; 28
th February 7:30pm at St. Anne’s, Nantwich and 7th March 7:30pm at St. Mary’s Primary School. These talks will explore the changes in theological thinking that have taken place in the 19th and 20th centuries – a period of radical political, economic and social change that has impacted enormously on the moral landscape of our times. Full details can be found on the noticeboards ‐ flyers are also on the table in the porch.
FROM THE PRESBYTERY Many thanks to all who contributed to the great success of the Christmas Fayre this weekend. We hope to have a final total for you as soon as possible. Special thanks to Alison Collins for her careful management of the event. We are now in the great season of Advent. I would like to recommend to you the new Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Gaudium by Pope Francis as suitable reading for the season. Unlike the recent Vatican Questionnaire, it is in plain English and a very readable and exciting document. There will be opportunities for the parish to explore the document further in the new year.
With every good wish for the week ahead Father Jerome (Parish Priest)

GIFTS FOR FAMILIES AT CHRISTMAS We may be very fortunate that our children and families will receive presents this year, when there are families who may be unable to afford any. Therefore as a community we are collecting new toys to be given to less fortunate families. The collection will run through November and then will be distributed to families across the parish in December. You could really make a difference to someone’s Christmas with this generous act, please ensure they are new toys and preferably do not need batteries. Please do not wrap the gifts. These can be left in either with Helena in the office during office hours or in the Sacristy. Please contact Maggie Schiavone‐Young on 07843 502036 for further details or speak to Helena in the office. CATECHISTS REQUIRED Volunteers are required for Children’s Liturgy and First Communion preparation. No qualifications necessary other than the ability to express our faith and ‘get busy’ with the children. If you are interested please contact Ada‐ Belle on 01270 664612.
THANKSGIVING MASS 10AM 8TH DECEMBER.
Our children will be playing an important part during the Offertory Procession, bringing gifts of food and groceries destined for St. Paul’s Pantry, our town food bank. This is part of our community Outreach. Our Mass on the 8th December will bring together many nuances from our mission held last summer. It will demonstrate the deep spirituality and fellowship of our parish, and the many goals and ambitions of those who stretch out their God given talents to the marginalised, in the wider community of Crewe. This is a celebration that brings us all together in thanksgiving, under the guiding hand of the Holy Spirit. We hope and pray that you will be able to join us next weekend.

Loving God, Father of us all, we thank you: you have called each of us.
You have brought us together, gathered as your family, each with the gifts you give us.
We become your body in this place.
Send your Spirit to breathe anew in us, inspiring us to reach out to one another.
Give us the courage to go out beyond this parish, holding the world in love, as shown by your Son.
Bind us in the mystery of your love.
Draw each of us deeper into the knowledge of you. Make us a true community, united in peace, service and faith.
We make our prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.
