PARISH ADVENT PENANCE SERVICE Monday , December 16th at 7:00 PM
The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be celebrated. Several priests will be available.
CONFESSIONS Saturday, December 21 at 8:30 AM
Act of Contrition O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins because of thy just punishments, but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, who art all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve with the help of Thy grace to sin no more and to avoid the near occasion of sin. Amen.
Advent Reflections Third Sunday of Advent Related in the Spirit The Spirit always connects, reconciles, forgives, heals and makes two into one… Just as the Spirit always makes one out of two, so the evil one invariably makes two out of one! The evil one tears the fabric of life apart, while the Spirit comes to mend, soften, and heal… The more that we can put together, the more we can forgive and allow, the more we can include and enjoy, the more we tend to be living in the Spirit… As always, Jesus is our model of healing, outreach and reconciliation, the ultimate man of the Spirit. Reflect: What divisions exist in your life? How can you let the Spirit mend those divisions?

Paul’s letter to the Romans has been at the center of reflection, conversion, and controversy from the very beginning. Romans: The Gospel of Salvation is a new eight-week Bible study we are offering that will help you make sense of the difficult passages regarding faith, works of the law, and justification. It will give you an authentically Catholic, comprehensive, and simple way to understand this challenging epistle. St. Maximilian Kolbe’s Tuesday Morning Bible Study will begin Romans on January 7, 2020 at 9:00 Am. Participants will meet every week to view an engaging video presentation by Dr. Andrew Swafford and Jeff Cavins, followed by a time of lively group discussion and fellowship. For more information contact Judy Armour at 610-793-2596 or [email protected]. Registration Deadline is December 30, 2019. Cost of the program is $27, payable to St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish. For registration, contact the rectory. We hope you can join us!
Bishop Robert Barron’s The EUCHARIST and PIVOTAL PLAYERS
The EUCHARIST -- Christ is alive and fully present in the Eucharist. Join us as we delve into the “source and summit” of our Faith with Bp. Robert Barron’s DVD-based program: Eucharist: Sacred Meal, Sacrifice and Real Presence. This spiritual study will give you a deeper understanding of the precious gift of Christ’s body, blood, soul and divinity that you can receive at each and every Mass. This study program is five weeks in duration. The PIVOTAL PLAYERS – is a study program by Bishop Barron which looks at the lives of Saints Augustine and Benedict both of whom played pivotal roles in the development of the Church. This program is designed to provide little known detail in the lives of these saint and what made them leaders within the church. This study program is four weeks in duration. Since each of these programs is relatively short, both programs will be presented consecutively. The cost of The Eucharist program is $17, and The Pivotal Players program is $13 and both are $30. The Eucharist program will begin on January 6, 2020 at 7 PM in the Kolbe Room in the church . Please sign up by December 27th. For more information, please contact Joe Pizzino (484 883 8985) or stop by the parish office to sign up.

St. Maximilian Kolbe School invites the Parish and Friends to this year’s Christmas show:
“Seeking Our Savior”
Please join us for our school’s annual Christmas Fine Arts presentation. The show is a short original
play presented by the 8th grade with intermittent songs by grades 1 through 7 and our choir. It is a St. Max tradition to present a play – each year something new – to spread the joy of song and the spirit of Christmas to all. We love to see so many of our alumni return each year. This is a great way to take an
hour for yourself and let the children surround you with Christmas. Wednesday, December 18, 7:00 pm, in the Gym
All Are Welcome – No Admission Fee
A Kolbe Christmas Thank You
Last Saturday, a Kolbe Christmas took place at St.Max School. A winter
wonderland took over the school with the snowflake café, raffle baskets and silent auction, white elephant room, bake sale, live entertainment, games in the
gym, craft room and face painting, vendors and of course Santa.
New this year was the Live Nativity
While the event was a successful fundraiser, it
proved to be so much more. It was an opportunity for all parishioners and friends to come together. We loved seeing families, alumni, and friends connect
to ring in the Christmas season.

The Jesse Tree dates back to the middle ages where an Advent “tree” was decorated with various symbols (ornaments) to remind people of the history of God’s promises and their fulfillment from Creation to the Birth of Jesus Christ. Over the course of the season it teaches us through the stories of God’s people and the words of His prophets the story of God’s greatest gift – salvation through his son, Jesus.
Scripture: Isaiah 9:1-6 The RED ROSE symbolizes the PROPHETS. The prophets had great love and respect for God and were God’s messengers to the Israelite people. God used their words to share the promise of a coming Savior and encourage the people to be faithful during the long, long wait for Jesus to arrive! God promises to never leave us alone without His encouragement and guidance and has given us spiritual leaders and the Holy Spirit to encourage and guide us. Scripture: 1 Kings 18:17-24, 36-39 ELIJAH’s STONE ALTAR WITH FIRE. The people of Israel began to worship a false god named Baal. Elijah challenged the Baal priests to prove who had more power: God or Baal. Both prepared sacrifices, but only God answered prayer and sent fire to burn up the sacrifice. Elijah reminded God’s people through mighty miracles like this one that God is the one true God, He hears their prayers and will keep His promises.
Scripture: Isaiah 11:1-9 The WOLF AND LAMB symbolizes PEACE Isaiah gives us a promises from God that there will come a day when the world will change and violence will be no more. He wrote “the wolf shall be a guest of the lamb” meaning that all creation will live together in peace (people and animals alike). Scripture: Jonah 1:11-15; 2:1; 3:1-3 The WHALE is for JONAH. God asked Jonah to give the people in Nineveh a message; but Jonah didn’t obey, instead he tried to run away from God by taking a boat to another city. When a great storm started and the boat was going to sink, Jonah knew God was showing his anger and he asked the sailors to throw him off the ship so they would be saved. God also saved Jonah by sending a huge fish to take him to Nineveh. On the way God reminded Jonah to always follow God. Jonah realized he couldn’t hide from God, and obediently shared God’s message with the people in Nineveh, leading them to faith in God. God promises to love the WHOLE world and uses those who know him already to share the great gospel of salvation. Scripture: Esther 4 8:3-8 The SCEPTER is for ESTHER Esther was a wife of the Persian king. He did not know that she was a Jew when He announced that all Jews would be killed. Esther knew anyone going to the king without being called could be put to death, unless the king extends his golden scepter to permit them to speak. She also knew God is powerful and answers prayer, so she asked all the Israelites to pray with her for courage. After praying, Esther bravely went to the king, and when he stretched forth the golden scepter to Esther' she knew her prayers were answered and by her request the Jews were saved. Scripture: Daniel 6 The LION is for DANIEL The Assyrian king made a law that said people had to bow and worship only the king. Daniel knew that he would only worship the one true God and continued to pray every day. When he was caught praying to God and not the king, Daniel was sent to the lion’s den to be eaten. The next morning he was still alive – God saved him! King Darius realized that Daniel’s God was real and powerful and changed the law so all people could worship the one true God. Scripture: Habakkuk The WATCHTOWER signifies HABAKKUK The prophet, Habakkuk, complains to God saying, 'I cry for help but you do not listen!’ (Habakkuk 1:2) He vows to stand guard at the watchtower until God answers. God does answer by sending a vision and asking Habakkuk to write it down so everyone could remember it. God spoke of the promised King, soon to come, who would be the Savior of the world. Sometimes God’s answer is to be patient and wait for God’s right time to keep His promises.
