NOTICE.

This Collection embraces a large number of worksmost essential to the Librarian, in all the lan-guages of Europe, and in extent is exceeded onlyby that presented to the Astor Library by Dr.Cogswell. It being desirable to dispose of it entire, and looking only among the public libraries for apurchaser, the titles are given in short, and veryfew allusions made to rarities. Many of the worksin this branch of literature are now extremely scarce, and every day becoming more difficult to find, yetthe prices affixed to these have little relation to suchadventitious values. They havebeen mostlyrebound, except when it was desirable to preserve the originalbindings, which in some cases are very rich andunique, having come from the libraries of noted col-lectors in Europe, Asia and America, kings andprinces, universities and monasteries, noblemen andgentlemen of taste in the choice of copies, and thestyles of their bindings.

Annals of Albany. By Joel Munsell. 6 vols. 12mo, o ooIts contributions to history and antiquities contain much thatis

curious and interesting, obtained at no little cost of time and labor. No one has done more to recall the ancient features of the city. Cu-rious in these matters, the author culls and preserves them in theirantique forms, and thus rescues them from the oblivion into whichthe structures, the ways, the customs, and even the names of theolden times would otherwise be liable to pass. The modern namesand places, by the side of the ancient annals and things, combine thepast and the present in useful and interesting juxtaposition. Thecurious in these researches will find this book a treasure, and wellworth the price. It has line views of Albany, as it is, and illustra-tive wood cuts and maps; but itschief interest consists in its portrai-ture of Albany as it was in the olden time.—Argus.
