PRYSMIAN Cables and Systems

Certified Production

ISO 9001

Certified Quality

We always want to give our customers the best product. In order to do this we have been optimising our manufacturing processes in accordance with the DIN ISO 9001 standard for many years, therefore ensuring that consistently high quality is provided. We were awarded this certificate back in 1992, and it has now been certified that PRYSMIAN also meets the require-ments of the more sophisticated ISO 9001:2008 standard. This verifies that all cables and lines supplied by PRYSMIAN are of high quality, our personnel are expertly trained and competent, and our working environment is state-of-the-art. All stages of production are subject to continuous monitoring, and even outsourced processes remain under the supervision of PRYSMI-AN. The ISO 9001:2008 certification is confirmation that we have the best possible quality management system, and gives you the confidence of always receiving an extremely good product.

ISO 14001

Environmentally Friendly Production

PRYSMIAN takes the environment seriously, which is why we manufacture our cables and lines in as environmentally friendly a way as possible. Our manufacturing processes were awarded the DIN ISO 14001 environmental protection certificate many years ago, which is confirmation of the success of our environmental management system. We regularly think about new ways of redu-cing the burden on the environment, and set ourselves specific targets. The ISO 14001:2004 certificate that was recently presented to PRYSMIAN confirms that these targets are being achieved and that the environment is being protected. unlike previous standards, the regulations have been made even stricter in this case. PRYSMIAN products are therefore not just top quality, but also ensure that the manufacturing process is sustainable.

PRYSMIAN PSH-1 and PSH-2 collective holders for retaining functionality

As well as a wide range of possible carrier systems such as cable trays, cable ladders and individual clamps, PRYS-MIAN circuit integrity maintenance cables can also be laid in PSH-1 and PSH-2 collective holders. These collective holders are special carrier systems. This means that only systems with the “Allgemeine bauaufsichtliche Prüf-zeugnisse - AbP” may be laid, the basis of which is passing the test specified in DIN 4102 Part 12.

The approved carrier systems with the PSH-1 and PSH-2 collective holders can be seen in the overviews, as can other potential systems. However, the basis for the installation of circuit integrity maintenance cables in technical safety systems and equipment prescribed by the building regulations is always the “Allgemeine bauaufsichtliche Prüfzeugnisse - AbP”.

PRYSMIAN Cables and Systems

VdS certificates

Geprüfte Sicherheit

Appropriately designed PRYSMIAN cables are also safe in the event of fire, and ensure that the installation continues to operate. This is confirmed by the certificate of compliance with the VdS Schadenverhütung GmbH VdS 3423 standard, the requirements of which the SIeNOPYR e 90 once more succeeded in complying with. In the event of a fire, the power supply is guaranteed for up to 90 minutes, therefore ensuring that rescue systems and telecommunications continue to operate. The tests carried out by the testing organisations confirm that the cable that is used does not short circuit due to the effect of fire or the use of extinguishing water or foam, and therefore retains its functionality. These PRYSMIAN products are therefore a safe solution for any usage area, and are particularly recommended for use where extremely high demands are made the fire protection system.

Tensile strength for lines

There should be as little tensile load on the conductors as possible. The following tensile loads for the conductors must not be exceeded when installing fixed lines with a nominal conductor cross-section of 50 N/mm². The calculation must not take shields, concentric conductors, divided protective conductors, additional control wires and monitoring conductors into consi-deration.

Cable bending radii

The following minimum bending radii apply during the installation of cables in accordance with DIN VDe 0276-603, DIN VDe 0276-604 and DIN VDe 0266 (one-off bending). under certain conditions, values that are 50 % less apply in accordance with DIN VDe 0276-603.

PRYSMIAN Cables & Systems

Neustadt plant (near Coburg)

The PRYSMIAN cable plant in Neustadt near Coburg ma-nufactures top quality power lines and special lines. The company started up in 1937 and initially concentrated on the manufacture of power and telecommunication ca-bles. Since it had its own rubber mixing plant, the facto-ry was then transformed from a copper wire manufactu-ring operation in the 1960’s into an innovative factory for cables and lines. The PRYSMIAN plant in Neustadt now manufactures a wide range of about 4,000 reliable and durable cables for all usage areas on its 125 state-of-the-art manufacturing systems.

Lynen/Eschweiler plant

Cable manufacturing has a long history in eschweiler. The Lynen family started to manufacture copper wires in 1815, and has been manufacturing cables that have been used worldwide since 1886. Due to continuous modernisation and innovative technologies, the company has been able to attain a leading position on the market. In 2008 the plant was taken over by PRYSMIAN, and has carried the name of PRYSMIAN Kabelwerk Lynen since the beginning of 2009. As well as cables for lifts, mining and telecommunication and lines for renewable energy sources, the eschweiler plant concentrates on manufac-turing circuit integrity maintenance cables e30 and e90.

Schwerin plant

PRYSMIAN’s cable plant in Schwerin is one of the group’s biggest companies. The annual production of more than 80,000 tons mainly consists of power lines and is exported worldwide. Cables and lines were manufactured here back in the days when east Germany was still in existence. After the German reunification the factory was first taken over by Siemens, before subsequently being taken over by PRYSMIAN in 2005. With 320 employees, the PRYSMIAN plant in Schwerin is one of the biggest employers in the region.

With turnover of more than 5 billion euros, PRYSMIAN Cables & Systems is one of the world’s leading cable manufactu-rers, and is a global market leader in the power cable area. The company has some 12.000 employees, who work in the head office in Milan, the 53 plants in 21 countries on all 5 continents, and the company’s many distribution outlets.

Activities in Germany are managed by Berlin-based PRYSMIAN Kabel und Systeme GmbH. With about 1,000 employees and turnover of 500 million euros, PRYSMIAN is one of the biggest companies in the industry in Germany. The widely diversified manufacturing programme ranges from installation lines for residential and commercial building construction to medium-voltage cables for power supplies, special lifting gear lines, mining lines and telecommunication lines.

The company also frequently puts its innovative power to the test: In 2006 a line was brought onto the market that emits practically no electrical radiation whatsoever (SMOGfRee), and in 2008 PRYSMIAN presented an all-in-one solution that covers all installation options (AfuMeX PLuS 500). In 2009 the latest innovation is AfuMeX PLuS 1000, a cable for many usage areas with which savings of 15% or more can be achieved.

Insulation Integrity Maintenance and Circuit Integrity Maintenance

Insulation integrity maintenance

Insulation integrity maintenance is a test that is carried out in accordance with DIN De 0472-814. It is a test of the section of cable without a carrier structure. This test provides proof of voltage stability for at least 180 minutes with a defined exposure to fire. Cables that meet this requirement are designated fe 180.

Circuit integrity maintenance

Circuit integrity maintenance is a test in accordance with DIN 4102 part 12. The test is performed on a complete cable in-stallation. The duration of the test can be 30, 60 or 90 minutes. The cables are classified into circuit integrity maintenance classes e30, e60 and e90 in the Allgemeine bauaufsichtliche Prüfzeugnisse (AbP).

E30* applications

The integrity of the circuit must be maintained for at least 30 minutes for- Safety lighting systems- Lifts with fire control systems- fire alarm systems- Systems for issuing alarms and giving instructions to visitors and employees- Natural smoke extraction systems- Automatic smoke extraction systems and smoke protection pressure systems

* see also MLAR, restrictions in accordance with MLAR

E90* applications

The integrity of the circuit must be maintained for at least 90 minutes for- Water pressure boosting systems for supplying extinguishing water- Automatic smoke extraction systems and smoke protection pressure systems- fire Brigade lifts and bed lifts in hospitals and other buildings with appropriate specific functions

* see also MLAR, restrictions in accordance with MLAR

VdS certificate for cables with circuit integrity maintenance E90

The certificates show that a test was passed in accordance with VDS 3423:2000-11 (draft). Circuit integrity maintenance with the additional effect of water is confirmed for e90 cables of types (N)HXHX und (N)HXCHX. use in local water extinguishing systems is recognised with this certificate.

In general

The specified terms and definitions basically apply for sizing the cross sections of cables and conductors. These and other particulars or words to that effect be found in the following chapters. DIN VDe 0298-4 also applies for low-voltage cables when used in building installation. for cables which are not laid in buildings, the loading values must be determined in ac-cordance with the relevant norms. You will also find more detailed information in the book „Kabel und Leitungen für Stark-strom“, Heinhold, Stubbe; Publicics MCD Verlag; ISBN 3-89578-088-X.The values for current loading capacity defined in DIN VDe 0298-4 (referred to in the following as load capacity for short) are rated values. They are based on agreed operating conditions. All loading capacity values in the following sections are referred to operation with direct current, or single-phase or 3-phase alternating current at a frequency of 50 to 60 Hz. The load capacity must be determined for- fault-free operation, and- short circuit (fault operation). The conductor cross section must be chosen so that the conductor is not heated above the permissible operating temperature at any point or at any time. This requirement will be fulfilled if the current loading does not exceed the loading capacity of the cable or conductor in fault-free operation. The heating and therefore the loading capacity of a cable or conductor of a certain cross section is dependent on the design, the material properties and the operating conditions. Additional heating when bunched with other cables and conductors as a result of heating ducts, the sun‘s rays or other sources of heat must be taken into account.

The condition must be fulfilled for all operating states:

Conditions which differ from continuous operation, such as short-term operation or intermittent duty, may also be taken into account.

Load capacity in fault-free operation

The different types of cable and conductor designs are listed in Table 4, in each case with details of the norm, the maximum permissible operating temperature at the conductor and the number of the table which contains the rated values of current load capacity.

Installation information

The rated value for the current-carrying capacity is identified with lr. The load capacity is calculated as follows:

Wereby: Ir Load capacity under agreed operating conditions (calculation value) Iz Load capacity under actual operating conditions πƒ Product of all required conversion factors ƒT Conversion factors for ambient temperature deviating from 30 °C ƒH Conversion factors for bundled cables and lines ƒV Conversion factors for multi-core cables and lines with more than three loaded wires

The conversion factors ƒT (deviating ambient temperatures), ƒH (bundled cables and lines) and ƒV (load of more than three wires in multi-wire cables and lines) can be found in tables 7 to 11 (Pgs. 111 – 115). The ambient conditions specified for calculating the conductor cross-section (operating mode, installation conditions and ambient conditions) are specified as follows:

Cables and lines for fixed installation in buildings

The load capacities for installation types B1, B2 and C were determined for installation on a wooden panel. You are there- fore on the safe side for installation on masonry, plaster etc. The following reference installation types therefore apply:• ReferenceinstallationtypeA2: Multi-corecableormulti-coresheathedcableinanelectricalinstallationtube in an insulated wall• ReferenceinstallationtypeB1: Single-corecableorsingle-coresheathedcableinanelectricalinstallation tube on a wall• ReferenceinstallationtypeB2: Multi-corecableormulti-coresheathedcableinanelectricalinstallation tube on a wall•ReferenceinstallationtypeC: Single-coreormulti-corecableorsingle-coreormulti-coresheathedcableona wall• ReferenceinstallationtypeE: Multi-corecableormulti-coresheathedcableintheopenwithclearanceof at least 0.3 x diameter d from the wall• ReferenceinstallationtypeF: Single-corecableorsingle-coresheathedcables,withcontact,intheopenwith clearance of at least 1 x diameter d from the wall• ReferenceinstallationtypeG: Single-corecableorsingle-coresheathedcables,withclearanced,intheopen with clearance of at least 1 x diameter d from the wallDiameter d: Diameter of the cable or line.

Other installation types and their assignment to the reference installation types are listed in DIN VDe 0298-4 (VDe 0298 Part 4).

Cables with permissible operating temperature of 90 °C at the line

The load capacities in tables 5 and 6 lead to an operating temperature of 90 °C with the installation types and ambient conditions that have been mentioned, and therefore identify the product characteristics. However, in order to erect high-voltage systems with nominal voltages of up to 1000 V in buildings, a maximum operating temperature of 70 °C is specified for cables, because the built-in installation equipment, plug-in devices, low voltage switching devices, terminals, fastening materials etc. are intended for use at an operating temperature of 70 °C. The cables, which are designed for an operating temperature of 90 °C at the conductor, should therefore only be operated with a load that leads to a maximum operating temperature of 70 °C at the conductor in the connecting area of the above-mentioned devices. The higher permissible operating temperature of 90 °C can be used as a thermal reserve in the event of bundling and/or higher ambient temperatures in other locations during the course of installation.

Laying in heat-insulated walls

The magnitude of the load capacity for the nominal cross section 1.5 mm² in Table 5 (P. 109), installation type A2, has been increased from 14.0 A to 15.5 A based on published test results. Measurements were taken on three-core sheathed cables with two loaded cores which lay in direct contact with the internal cladding when laid with or without electrical conduit and using the following wall structure- outer cladding with 10 mm fibreboard- heat insulation with 100 mm mineral fibre-innercladdingwith25mmfibreboardwithathermalconductivityof0.1W/K•mperpendiculartotheplaneoftheboardand0.23W/K•mparalleltotheplaneoftheboard.According to the Studiengemeinschaft für fertigbau (Association for Prefabricated Construction Studies), this wall structure represents the best heat insulation used in prefabricated houses in Germany. The values of 14.5 A and 14.0 A respectively from the harmonisation document HD 384.5.523 must be used for thermally less favourable structures.

Load capacity on short circuit

The magnitudes of the load capacity are determined with the help of the rated short-circuit current density defined in DIN eN 60909 and DIN eN 60865. The permissible short-circuit temperatures and the material values required for the calculation can be seen from publication IeC 60724 and IeC 60502 respectively. The rated short-circuit current densities (Table 12, P.115) for the different types of conductor have been calculated in accordance with IeC 60724.

Ambient temperature: 30 °C

Sufficiently large and ventilated rooms in which the ambient temperature is not noticeably increased by the heat losses from the cables and conductors, protection against direct heat radiation from the sun or other sources of heat.

Load capacity in the event of a short circuit

In the event of a short circuit, most of the heat that is generated by the short circuit current is stored in the conductor. In this case the temperature of the conductor must not exceed the permissible short circuit temperature, whereby the conductor temperature when the short circuit first occurred and the duration of the short circuit must be taken into consideration.

The conductor temperature when the short circuit first occurred (Ja) depends on the load prior to the short circuit. In the absence of further information, the permissible operating temperature of the cable and the lines must be used for Ja.The permissible short circuit temperature (Je) in accordance with table 12 is defined taking the insulation or conductive layer adjacent to the conductor into consideration, and applies for a maximum short circuit duration of 5 seconds. The maximum temperature for tin-plated lines is 200 °C, and the maximum temperature for soft-soldered conductor connections is 160 °C.

The rated short circuit current lthr (short circuit load capacity rated value) for the rated short circuit duration tkr of 1 second for the cables and lines can be determined from table 12 using the rated short-time current density Jthr by multiplying with the nominal cross section of the conductor qn.

The short circuit load capacity tk for a short circuit duration of tkr is:

The conductor cross section is adequately rated with regard to the thermal short circuit load capacity if the following condi-tion is met:

1) The maximum temperature of tin-plated conductors is 200 °C, and the maximum temperature for soft-soldered connections is 160 °C.2) The temperature must be limited to 160 °C for soft-soldered connections.

The experts are anticipating an investment volume of about 75 billion euros over the next few years. German manufacturers have an excellent reputation, particularly in the field of wind energy and solar energy systems. However, a connection to the power grid is decisive in order to be able to utilise the technology successfully and effectively. As one of the world’s leading cable manufacturers, PRYSMIAN has many years of experience in this area, and can provide advanced special cables for renewable energy sources. PRYSMIAN products can cope with the special loads in this area due to the company’s techni-cal know-how and innovative developments. The specialist “Leitungen für erneuer-bare energien” catalogue shows all of the PRYSMIAN products that help to make more effective use of the sun and the wind. We would be pleased to send you a copy of this special catalogue, also in larger quantities if necessary.
