Lot Numbers:The animals are tagged with their catalog lot numbers. Health:All cattle sell with health certificates, ready for immedi-ate shipping. Bulls have been vaccinated and PI tested, and have passed a breeding-soundness evaluation. Delivery:Free in-state delivery of registered animals, or we will give a $25-per-lot refund on animals picked up sale day. Guarantee:All bulls selling for $2,000 and above are guaranteed against breeding injury for the first breeding season, defined as the 90-day period following the first turnout of the bull. An injured bull will be replaced by its breeder with another bull if available, or a credit in the amount paid, less salvage value of the injured bull, will be given toward another of the breeder’s bulls in next year’s sale. This breeding guarantee does not cover the death of a bull. Food:A complimentary lunch will be served.

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the Mid-Kansas Angus Breeders 2012 production sale. We have a good offering of year-ling to two-year-old bulls to sell on March 21st, and we hope you will come early, look them over, and join us for lunch.

We have just hit all time highs in the fat and feeder cattle markets and things look great for the cow-calf producer. If you are planning on breeding some extra heifers, we have a great selection of calving-ease bulls to pick from.

With six different breeding programs represented in the sale, we offer a wide range of genetics to pick from. At the same time, we all have the same goal of providing you with cattle that will work in your operation. We are selecting for strong maternal traits, fertility, moderate cow size, calving ease, above average growth, good carcass values, and—last but not least—good disposition.

We will have updates to the catalog available on sale day. If you need any more information or want to see the cattle before the sale, feel welcome to stop by or call any time.

The Pathfinder Angus program was started in 1978 in an effort to identify superior cows in the breed based on their records of performance from Angus Herd Improvement Records (AHIR). In an effort to supply some fresh genetics to our customers, Ficken and Rosemayne Angus have ex-perimented with Simmental genetics. We hope you will find them to be as powerful and valuable as we have. Our bull selection decisions were based on maternal excellence and calving ease genetics. The actual birth weights were the same as our Angus sired calves and management requirements were no different. These bulls are not registered so we are showing the sire’s and dam’s EPDs from both breeds. We believe you can use these bulls with reasonable confidence on your cows. They should produce excellent replacement females with a little more growth punch and steer calves that press down hard on the scales. American Angus Association$Values are multi-trait selection indexes expressed in dollarsper head, to assist commercial beef producers by addingsimplicity to genetic selection decisions. A $Value has mean-ing only when used in comparison to the $Value of anotheranimal. For example, just as with EPDs, variation in $Valuesbetween animals indicates average expected differences inthe relative value of progeny if random mating is assumedand the calves are exposed to the same environment.

Weaned Calf Value ($W): an index expressed in dollars perhead, is the expected average difference in future progenyperformance for preweaning merit. $W includes both revenueand cost adjustments associated with differences in birthweight, weaning direct growth, maternal milk, and mature cowsize.

Feedlot Value ($F): an index expressed in dollars per head, isthe expected average difference in future progeny perform-ance for postweaning performance compared to progeny ofother sires.

Grid Value ($G): an index expressed in dollars per head, isthe expected average difference in future progeny perform-ance for carcass grid merit compared to progeny of othersires.

Beef Value ($B): an index expressed in dollars per head, isthe expected average difference in future progeny perform-ance for postweaning and carcass value compared to progenyof other sires. The $B value combines the contributions of $Fand $G.

$Value Indexes

$Values should be used to complement the criteria that pro-ducers already use when selecting bulls.

The $Values are not designed to be driven by a single trait,as an index is multi-trait by design. These selection tools arethe result of the application of industry-relevant market val-ues to Angus genetics for preweaning, feedlot, and carcassmerit.
