Dear CFHS Parents/Guardians, Starting October 8 th , the District will ask parents of CFSD students to commit to a learning preference for their students to follow. The plan will include detailed information for each school. To accommodate the choice for students that parents make, the district will assess the decision through a survey. The survey will be open on October 8 th and close at 11:59 pm on October14 th . The selection will be “binding” and we will use these numbers to prepare for in-person and remote learning. Each school will provide more detail to best inform families on what their schedule will look like, and what the health and safety procedures specific to the school site will be. Each school will facilitate Town Hall meetings to discuss the return to in-person learning on October 26 with specific implementation details. Details about the remote learning option will also be discussed. CFHS will hold our Town Hall Meeting on Thursday October 8 th at 6:00pm. The link to this Town Hall Meeting will be posted on the CFHS website. The District reaffirmed its decision last month to base school openings and potential re-closings, on state and Pima County public health metrics and guidelines. All students and staff will be required to wear a mask while they are on campus. For now, no visitors will be allowed at schools, except in an emergency, and we will not be hosting school travel for field trips at this time. Our health and safety protocol will be to provide six-feet between desks in the classroom. Although we cannot guarantee that students will always be six feet away from each other because students and adults tend to gravitate toward each other, we will stress substantial compliance with the public health recommendations. We will do the very best we can to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of our students and staff. As stated, the details of the plan will be communicated on October 8 th in a CFHS fact sheet. We appreciate your ongoing support as we navigate the reopening of school. We will monitor and adjust as needed to provide the best for students and staff academically and with health and safety protocols. A reminder that we the Governing Board approved a revised Student Calendar 2020-2021 Option 1B (see page 3). This calendar eliminates half days on October 27 and 28 and the Late Start Friday on October 30. These changes allow for the first week of in-person learning to be five full days of instruction. Dear CFHS Parents/Guardians,

Starting October 8th, the District will ask parents of CFSD students to commit to a learning preference for their

students to follow. The plan will include detailed information for each school.

To accommodate the choice for students that parents make, the district will assess the decision through a

survey. The survey will be open on October 8th and close at 11:59 pm on October14th. The selection will be

“binding” and we will use these numbers to prepare for in-person and remote learning. Each school will provide

more detail to best inform families on what their schedule will look like, and what the health and safety

procedures specific to the school site will be. Each school will facilitate Town Hall meetings to discuss the

return to in-person learning on October 26 with specific implementation details. Details about the remote

learning option will also be discussed.

CFHS will hold our Town Hall Meeting on Thursday October 8th at 6:00pm. The link to this Town Hall Meeting will be posted on the CFHS website.

The District reaffirmed its decision last month to base school openings and potential re-closings, on state and

Pima County public health metrics and guidelines.

All students and staff will be required to wear a mask while they are on campus. For now, no visitors will be

allowed at schools, except in an emergency, and we will not be hosting school travel for field trips at this time.

Our health and safety protocol will be to provide six-feet between desks in the classroom. Although we cannot

guarantee that students will always be six feet away from each other because students and adults tend to

gravitate toward each other, we will stress substantial compliance with the public health recommendations. We

will do the very best we can to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of our students and staff. As stated, the

details of the plan will be communicated on October 8th in a CFHS fact sheet.

We appreciate your ongoing support as we navigate the reopening of school. We will monitor and adjust as

needed to provide the best for students and staff academically and with health and safety protocols.

A reminder that we the Governing Board approved a revised Student Calendar 2020-2021 Option 1B (see page

3). This calendar eliminates half days on October 27 and 28 and the Late Start Friday on October 30. These

changes allow for the first week of in-person learning to be five full days of instruction.

October 1, 2020 To: Parents of CFSD Students From: Mary Kamerzell, Superintendent Re: CFSD Open Enrollment Program for the 2021-2022 School Year The Catalina Foothills School District (CFSD) will begin its open enrollment application procedures for the 2021-2022 school year on November 1, 2020. Pursuant to A.R.S. §15-816 all Arizona school districts follow a prescribed procedure and timetable for admitting out-of-district transfer students and resident transfer students (those who live in the District but are attending a school outside the attendance area of their residence). All students who currently attend CFSD schools and reside in other districts, and all CFSD resident students who attend a school outside of the attendance area of their residence, are impacted by this law. We require all open enrollment students to apply for admission each year. Therefore, if your child is a resident transfer (open enrollment) student and you want him/her to continue in that capacity, or if your child resides outside of the district, either as a continuing or a new open enrollment student, please complete an open enrollment application online between November 1, 2020 and January 31, 2021. Open enrollment applications and information regarding the application process are on the district Web site, www.cfsd16.org (as of November 1, 2020). Under Parents, select Open Enrollment. Electronic applications must be submitted no later than January 31, 2021. Decisions about admission, based on capacity, will be made by March 1, 2021. At that time, all applicants who applied during the application period will be notified by email whether their applications were accepted, waitlisted, or declined. Note: A separate application must be completed for each student. Please keep in mind that annually, the open enrollment process involves three steps: application, notification of our decision and, if accepted, online registration.

AP Exam Registration ~ NOW OPEN Refer to the flyer below for important information regarding 2021 AP exam registration. Information was also emailed to all AP students and parents on September 21.

2021 AP EXAM REGISTRATION

Although it is early in the school year, it is time to start thinking about spring 2021 AP exam registration. (College Board requires schools to order exams for yearlong and fall-only classes in November.) 2021 AP exams will take place during the first two weeks of May. Click here for a detailed exam schedule.

AP exam registration is a multi-step process:

1. Students create a MyAP account through College Board (myap.collegeboard.org). Already have a College Board account?: Use the same credentials. DO NOT create two accounts. Use a personal email address when creating a College Board account. DO NOT USE YOUR SCHOOL EMAIL ADDRESS.

2. Once logged into MyAP, enter the join code provided by each AP teacher. Students will have a join code for each AP class in which they are enrolled.

3. You will see that your exam registration is already "yes".

If you know FOR SURE that you are not going to test, please change your registration to "no." If there is any chance that you will test, do not change your order status.

College Board has decided that for the 2020-21 school year only, all canceled exam fees will be waived. This means there is no penalty for a student to order a test and then cancel later - even up to test day. The only time a student would be charged the $40 late fee is if they opt to register for an exam after the below deadlines. With this in mind, all students - upon joining each AP classroom - have an "Order Exam?" status of "Yes."

• Decision deadline for fall/yearlong classes = November 1

• Decision deadline for spring-only classes (S2 Gov/Macro) = March 1

4. Pay the $95 fee (per test) via InTouch or by contacting the Bursar's Office (209-8310). The payment deadline for ALL exams is March 1, 2021.

Please note that there is a decision deadline and a payment deadline. Families may pay for exams at any point from Oct 1 – March 1. Any exams not paid for by March 1 are subject to cancellation. Students who qualify for Free/Reduced lunch should still please go through InTouch to “finalize” the registration process, but know that the total exam fee will appear as $0.00.

Refer to the AP information section on the Counseling Department's website for additional details. Contact Ms. Petrillo at [email protected] with any questions or concerns about AP exam registration or payment.

Health Office Updates

CFHS Note from the Health Office October, 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians, We hope you are all staying safe and healthy! As we begin our first days of Fall and Flu season is around the corner, the CDC recommends that you and your family consult with your healthcare provider about getting a Flu (Influenza) vaccine, especially this year during the COVID-19 pandemic. See https://www.cdc.gov/flu/index.htm If you haven’t yet please email, fax or drop off the Student Health Information Form. A new one is needed each school year, even though students are remote learning. In order for students to be enrolled in school, whether in person or remote learning, the State requires complete and updated immunization records be submitted to the Health Office. Hello Falcon Family, Our first virtual FFO meeting of the school year was successful and well attended. Thanks to all who joined us. I strongly urge everyone to attend our monthly Google Meets in order to learn more about us, as well as how to get involved. We try our best to hold our meetings for approximately an hour. Each meeting includes an update from our Principal Ms. Brase. We conduct the business aspect of our meetings first, then we introduce a speaker. Our next meeting will be held on October 20th at 9:00 AM. Our speaker, Debbie Curley, U of A Family Engagement Program Directors’ topic is on, “Decoding Child Behavior, Positive Discipline for Teens”.
